Golden Opportunity for Kellen Davis this Sunday

Kellen Davis is expected to get a lot of playing time this Sunday as the 2nd TE in place of the injury Desmond Clark. I and I'm sure Kellen Davis himself sees this as a golden opportunity to force the coaches to give this guy more playing time. The Packers double Greg Olsen and used a corner back on him while in Nickel coverage last Sunday night. Desmond Clark was matched up mostly with a safety or linebacker, with the more faster and athletic Kellen Davis this could be a even more bigger mismatch for the Steelers. I expect the Steelers to follow Green Bays Blueprint in taking Greg Olsen out of the game with double coverage and in order to overcome that is for Turner, Cutler, and  Davis to make the most of this opportunity.

Davis should be one of the primary targets for Cutler this sunday, and the coaches are going to have to take advantage of his receiving skills instead of relying on him so much to be a blocker.

It sounds good

But what are you going to do about run blocking? One of the biggest problems on Sunday was that we didn’t establish the run, so passing became predictable. With Clark out, we lost one of our reliable blockers and now will probably have even less of a run game.

I hope K. Davis does well, but we still need someone to block for Forte.

You probably going to see a little bit of Gaines in the game as well

he’s a solid run blocker for a TE, and is also a good pass catching one as well, so you won’t be that predictable on offense. Greg Olsen, while not the best run blocking TE on the team has improve on it each season.

Kid could be the future at #2TE

Clark has maybe 1 or 2 more good years left, if Davis plays well the next few weeks, Clark could be put on notice

I agree.

I really liked what he did in the preseason and I think Davis and Olsen could be quite the duo at the TE for Cutler. They’re big targets and as much as Clark has been a solid producer for the Bear he is getting older and slower. This is his time and I think he’ll be noticed on Sunday. He can be a mismatch for any defense being 6’7. This is interesting and good post. I’ll be looking for him Sunday.

+1

but it also puts the onus on Davis to perform! He does need to step up to the grandeur of this game and shine. LeBeau will flood the “Olsen” side of the ball cutting off running and short passing lanes to that side. This is where a weak side bubble screen or an end around with Hester would be ideal. I say man up and zone block the runs to the strong side early and hit back with these plays in the 2nd quarter.

There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.

Solid post!

The next few weeks are HUGE to K. Davis, Gaines and Clark.

I think they're also big for Olsen

he needs to step up while Clark is out. If he can’t, maybe he’s not the talent we are led to believe. I’ve said it here before, that I am not overly impressed with him, but now he has the opportunity to show that he can be an elite TE in the league. No excuses of double teams, defenses looking to stop him, etc. The great TE’s in the game have that happen all the time but still find a way to get open and make catches. He dropped one last week that was right in his hands (shades of last year’s Carolina game) and that needs to stop as well.

agree

i also want to see the play of olsen match the humongous hype that he’s gotten this past off-season. i mean he’s great for me in madden and all but so far that’s about it.

PA Power O

to Olsen. All day. Unstoppable.

actually Power O in general is unstoppable on Madden, for the Bears at least. If Forte gets like two blocks he goes for massive yardage. Power O is my bread-and-butter on that game.

I agree

He needs to get over the whole I’m double covered or they using bracket coverage against me because he’s going to see double coverage no matter what scheme the opposing team is running.

Clarke should have had a TD against GB ...

Clarke really screwed the pooch when he hesitated on his corner route in the endzone … Cutler had thrown it perfectly for him ….

Good, it's time to see what the kid can do

I always turn to the sports section first. The sports page records people's accomplishments; the front page has nothing but man's failures.

More of Kellen please ...

6’7 TE against 5’9 safety … mmmmm. All Day Davis. Wouldn’t mind seeing him in there full time, alternating Olsen with Gaines.

yep, he played pretty well

except for the drop, but he made up for it with that outstanding TD catch!
