Bears have interest in Chris McAllister
With the Bears pick up of Rod Hood they are helping the depth of the Bears secondary, especially with Charles Tillman and Zackary Bowman still working with injuries, but they might not be done.
According to a small bit at the end of this article, the Bears have looked at at least one other:
A league source also said the Bears have inquired about Chris McAlister, the former Pro Bowl performer for the Baltimore Ravens who has worked his way back from knee surgery.
It is unclear when during the offseason they inquried about him. This may now be dead news.
At one time McAllister was one of the premiere cornerbacks in the league. At this point I don't know how much he has left.

Lovie speak
‘’No, on schedule is, when he is ready to go, he’ll be out there,‘’ he said. ’’That’s on schedule.’’
Um no, on schedule is when you set a return date and he comes back on that date. It’s mind numbing to read his quotes.

McAlister, in his prime, was a Pro-Bowl version of Tillman
Very physical at the LOS, with good ball-hawk skills. I can see why the Bears inquired.
More importantly, the Bears sudden desire to add veterans in the secondary speaks volumes:
1. The injured starters aren’t ready to return to starter form by opening day.
2. The depth chart at CB isn’t up to snuff to replace the injured starters.
3. The Bears realize they have a good shot to win this this year, and don’t want the secondary to botch it up for them.

Maybe...maybe not...
I wouldn’t necessarily read too much into this. Here’s my thoughts:
1) Although they have looked at McCalister, it was probably before they signed Hood.
2) Although there’s genuine concern about Peanut’s return time, they have viable back-ups
3) Unfortunately, those back-ups have injury histories
Yes, bring in a veteran insurance policy. No, don’t bring in a veteran insurance policy with an injury history. Makes sense to me.

Yes Yes and Yes
McAlister YES. dude is good.

Why not?
McAlister’s resume’ is better than Hoods. Even coming back from an injury, why not gamble on a former pro-bowler?

If he's healthy....
no sh!t, if he’s healthy, he is an easy starter on this Bears team. Possibly a backup if he’s not up to full time starter, but he has phenomenal CB skills and would make the Bears D a ton better. Again, if he’s healthy dump Vasher and get him!

So it ain't just me
It’s like every time I look Vasher is getting beat on a play.

Was Vasher making the Pro Bowl in '05 just a fluke?
It looks like he really was the benificiary of a monster pass rush and dominant play up front. Either that, or he’s definately lost whatever he had 4 years ago…

he just had a lot of bad passes thrown directly to him
and he used his only above average skill he had, his hands

Well...
You could probably say most CB’s that make the Pro Bowl either have a great pass rush, benefit from horrible opposing QBs, or make it on name recognition. Or all of the above. If a corner is THAT good, teams usually throw away from him. The Pro Bowl is so subjective, anyway. DeAngelo Hall was a superstar, until he played with the dude with the funny name in Oakland. Dre Bly was a superstar, until he played with Champ Bailey. Once these players were thrown to alot, their flaws rushed to the surface. Just sayin’…

If he's healthy...
then 31 other teams skipped on him because they are happy with their secondaries and can’t stand the idea of having a Pro Bowl-caliber standing by as a back-up. Hmmmm….

IMHO
Barring a trade, the Bears are who we thought they were. In other words, unless you trade for another team’s starting CB, who is running in an extremely similiar system, it’s pretty much too late to get a starting CB. Or at least one that would start by Game 1. They probably had several scenarios that went something like:
1) Tillman & Vasher = We’re Good
2) Bowman (Tillman hurt) & Vasher = We’re Good
3) Bowman (Tillman hurt) & MacGowan (Vasher stinks) = We’re in Trouble
4) McBride (Tillman & Bowman hurt) & MacGowan (Vasher stinks) = We’re in Deep Trouble
5) McBride (Tillman & Bowman hurt) & DJ Moore (Vasher & MacGowan stinks) = Wish we had that 1st Rounder still

i dont think
graham and bowman would be that bad, as long as they can stay on the field, and thats where the problem is. staying on the field
as far as McAllister, quoted as sayng “there is no better football city than Baltimore” he just lost my vote to play for us.
but seriously i think he’d be a decent pick up for at least this season.

Yeah but...
At the cost of who? Even if they grabbed him just for another insurance policy, you’d have make room on the roster. And that would be above and beyond the 22 that’ll be gone Saturday.

it's time
to cut the WRs down then. Rideau, Davis, one of the TEs maybe? it seems over kill to keep Olsen, Clark, Davis, AND Gaines.
i know they all have talent, but i’m talking necessity here.
