Johnny Knox

What do you guys think about him? I am pleasantly surprised i mean in pre season it seemed like every game he was hauling in a 50 yard bomb but hey its preseason i didn't look much into it. But last week he had ONE big grab which was nice. Today he was all over the field and how about that TOUCHDOWN?!?!? the corner didn't get inside this time!! lol but to me he looks like Eddie Royal 2.0 hes going to be cutlers safety valve. Anyone agree/Disagree?

He kind of reminds me of Desean Jackson in body type and his movements

Very excited about the prospects of this guy.

I would also like to say that PolishSausageDitkaBears has been calling this since February before we even drafted him, he predicted to me that we would not only draft him but he would be a playmaker for this team. Nice Call Jake

Not to mention the pick we got him for was from Denver along with Cutler thats a pretty good deal huh.

i remember in Rookie mini-camp, OTA's, and all during camp

That everyone kept saying how soft his hands were. I didn’t read that much into it being that people were not trying to hit him, but oh man..his hands are softer than a baby’s bottom. This kid can flat out make plays. It won’t be long before teams start to gameplan for him, if they havent already

by Chitownproduct on Sep 21, 2009 1:46 AM CDT up reply actions

I can't make the claim that I knew about him prior to the draft, but ever since we drated him

I did some research and saw some film from college and said that he would be the sleeper in this year’s draft. You could tell that, even though he came from a small school, he had the natural instincts of a WR. In one of the posts after the Green Bay game I pointed out that he broke off one of his routes when he saw Cutler scrambling to give his QB a target, which is a veteran move. Unfortunately, Jay missed him for another pick, but Knox did exactly what he was supposed to do.

All that said, let’s not put him into the HOF yet, there’s still a lot of football to play. I’d hate to see the fans go too overboard on the kid and put more pressure than he needs, but I think we have a real talent here.

by BearFan611 on Sep 21, 2009 8:59 AM CDT up reply actions

Yup

I go to that college. Knox is a beast on the field. Dude can flat out run and straight up catch. That muffed play at the end of week one will not be repeated I can practically guarantee that. The great thing about Knox is that he works hard. Guy has a level head and very little ego. Plus, anyone that can put the moves on Charles Woodson is awesome in my book!

Go read a book!

by N8lol on Sep 21, 2009 5:53 PM CDT up reply actions

Ditto

He does remind me of Desean Jackson as well. I love the fact that the kid gets open. Plus he’s a playermaker on special teams. About time the bears hit the jackpot on one of these later picks at WR. Once things get rolling, this will be beneficial to the TEs the most because now teams have to plan for Hester and Knox.

By the way, I know Hester only had 3 catches but they were all huge catches and I think that’s progress for him. Now all we need is that big WR to go along with these guys. Let’s hope Aramajmedo(sp) is healthy and ready to go. Then we may actually have something here!

we should just call him ramjam

We need to be proactive here

and stop the Denver connection… Johnny Knox could have looked like anybody… just not Royal or anyone on the Broncos.

but i digress.. Knox looked pretty much amazing… so much for not having any receivers!

I have been saying for some time...

that Knox had out-played the third-rounder Iglesias since OTAs. Knox is an effort guy with many intangibles, most notably speed. I wish Olsen had Knox’s attitude because he would be an all-world TE if he did. Knox is just getting started, but remember, when you start to make a name for yourself, defenses start paying attention. Knox and Cutler need to continue to improve their rapport and skills.

There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.

Knox

I love how the Bears have him running a lot of crossing routes. He’s impressed for sure.

by McRipper on Sep 21, 2009 9:53 AM CDT reply actions

I disagree with everyone

The only reason Knox was productive was because of Jay Cutler. Anyone remember we were praising Earl Bennett and Devin Hester after the first week? Now Knox. The pattern is clear QB makes your WR look awesome and its as simple as that.

by Man G on Sep 21, 2009 10:13 AM CDT reply actions

Well, most receivers

wouldn’t look too good without their QBs… last i checked anyways. Running a good route will let your QB throw you the ball more. Knox, being good, gave Cut more looks plain and simple

by BearNecessities on Sep 21, 2009 10:22 AM CDT up reply actions

Cutler didn't make those catches for him,

I like Jay and he played a very good game, but Knox made some grabs that helped Jay out to. It goes both ways.

by BearFan611 on Sep 21, 2009 10:59 AM CDT up reply actions

What about....

The fact that we take what the defense is giving us? If Hester and Bennett are covered then someone else in the receiving corp has to step up and make plays. I really don’t see how anyone can say Knox, an NFL rookie coming from a Division IIA school, didn’t do that against the Steelers. For my money, the kid looks like he has what it takes to succeed and go far at the pro level, so the “only reason” and “simple as that” statements don’t really hold water, sorry.

by BearDown34 on Sep 21, 2009 11:14 AM CDT up reply actions

Not sure about that

Knox looks great on those underneath patterns. The defenders can’t keep up with him cause of his speed, and he actually seems to finding the open areas within the defenses’ zones.

by propheteer on Sep 21, 2009 12:46 PM CDT up reply actions

The QB was hitting everyone in the hands.

Knox was the one hauling the passes in. Don’t get me wrong, the QB is main factor.

It’s my opinion that Knox was productive because of Cutler and himself. Olsen could’ve had a much bigger game than Knox, if he had shown the hands that Knox did.

by rdent4hof on Sep 21, 2009 1:16 PM CDT up reply actions

knox

had 82 yards last week as well

by Bear Lovin 21 on Sep 22, 2009 12:36 PM CDT up reply actions

I Give Knox credit

Because in preseason he looked OK but in the games he always looked scared going over the middle. Then Sunday he had that big first down catch and then that TD in traffic and I realized he is no longer afraid to go over the middle and take a hit.

by Sam Householder on Sep 21, 2009 10:37 AM CDT reply actions

I'm proud of him

When we needed our receivers to step up, he’s been the guy to do it the last couple of weeks. With the expectations (albeit low) for our wide receiver core, it’s been a matter of who can step up and make a difference in the game, and Knox has done that two weeks in a row. I’m pleasantly surprised with him, especially after some rookie mistakes last game. More than bad decisions made, I care more about how players respond, and Knox didn’t seem to have the same miscommunication problems as last week (same can be said for Cutler).

I also hold the same amount of props for Hester and Bennett, since they’re our two main guys and have played like it. Even though they were the focus of a tough Steelers/Packers defenses, they still made important plays when it mattereds. For the most part, our receivers have some tremendous upside, and any mistakes or shortcomings I’ve seen the last two weeks are definitely areas that will be improved as the season goes on.

Lets not get too carried away

Im a Knox fan ever since the Bears drafted him and I found out he ran a 4.3 or so 40. But we shouldn’t blow him up as the next Eddie Royal give him a few more games and if he continues to put up the numbers like he did today then yea lets start comparing him to Eddie Royal but right now is still early

Good points Fellas

Let me clear some things up. I said eddie royal because knox and him are similar styles both are small and quick and turn 2 yrds pases into 12 yard plays. The Jackson references are accurate but no one sees any Lance moore? especaially on that slant for a td. Look at this Knox leads ALL rookies in recieving yards this is no fluke. he will be a big for us because his speed will prevent hester from being doubled and olsen will be open more forte in the flat etc etc

by Bear Lovin 21 on Sep 21, 2009 2:53 PM CDT reply actions

I am very pleasantly surprised

The improvement between the first game and yesterday’s game was remarkable. I thought Knox would be a project who would not start paying off dividends until next year at the earliest. I am very happy to be wrong.

I always turn to the sports section first. The sports page records people's accomplishments; the front page has nothing but man's failures.

by lookingdeadred on Sep 21, 2009 3:37 PM CDT reply actions

I thought the same thing

I thought we’d see a Wolfe, Wade, Gage, etc etc etc Part II—a player taking years to develop, but showing flashes along the way…then, just as he amounts to something somewhat productive, the Bears would let him go to another team, where he would play much better and more consistently.

Speaking of the young guys showing promise—I like Afalava, but for pure play-making potential and for run support (to date, anyway) , I’d like to see Payne in at SS over him.

So Bear Lovin…you gonna relinquish my profile pic, so I can use it again this season, as I had planned?

Or will you just shamelessly steal my identity?

by Amishbear on Sep 21, 2009 3:45 PM CDT up reply actions

lol whats your deal man?

as for knox very nice surprise kinda sucks juaqin isnt on the field at all where the hell is d.a.?
as for your beef with my pic lol
shamelessly? are you kidding man?
urlacher is my favorite player so naturally on bears fan site ill have his pic up
but if you want to be a child about it ill put up my other favorite of him holding up the halas trophy if your going to cry about.

by Bear Lovin 21 on Sep 21, 2009 4:04 PM CDT up reply actions

No, I'm not kidding

And yes, I am going to “cry” about it…

My “deal” is I’ve been using that photo on EVERY internet forum I’ve been a part of—Sportingnews, Yougab, all my yahoo fantasy teams/pages, ESPN comments, ALL OVER.

I’ve always loved it because it’s UNIQUE, and because NO ELSE HAD IT OR USED IT.
I liked it—it’s part of my on-line Bears-fan identity.

If you just want an Urlacher pic—use Google, fine—there are like 9897696987565 of them
(but not THIS ONE, it wasn’t anywhere on Google that I could find it, although it’s possible it’s out there SOMEWHERE in the e-world…which means, as one Bears fan to another, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt…)

Anyway, about a month or so ago—right at the end of the off-season, Smudgers said he HAD to make a picture version of my monniker, so he did.
So I’ve been using his picture to show my appreciation, but I still use “Urlacher eats” everywhere else, and intended to come back to it ANY day…

Clearly, it means something to me…but if it’s JUST an Urlacher pick to you, then the Halas trophy pick would work just as well, right?
I mean, you get a two for one in that one (Urlacher & Halas…) :-)

These guys are real burners. Couldn’t they become a nightmare for DB’s if used on the field at the same time? Their speed together should up the quality of the receiving corp of the Bears along with Cutler’s ability.
