hmm
Tight end Desmond Clark (cracked rib) was listed on the injury report that appears in the locker room as a "did not practice" early Thursday afternoon, but when the Bears took the field at 1:30 p.m., Clark was in full practice gear, including shoulder pads. He wasn’t moving at full speed, but it was an encouraging sign.

Someone is worried about there job?

Nah

Just a tough guy. He’s been in the league a long time and hasn’t missed more than a handful of games.

Ugh. Think its time for ABH (Anyone But Hester)… run FORWARD!

Not entirely,

On the kick-off returns that was his most frustrating habit. It’s a little more understandable on punt returns, but no matter what, never run backwards. He does sometimes I swear, then I swear some more, and call the coaches and announcers names.

I would like to see him keep doing punt returns for at least the end of this year. Hopefully he will get back to form there and break a couple :)

by Fridge72 on Sep 25, 2009 6:05 AM CDT up reply actions

Obviously, you missed yesterday's den when I brought this up

and brought all kinds of crap out!!!! I was actually referring to Lovie’s comments that he “is happy with everything he’s done” but it became a lonnnnnnnnng list of replies regarding Devin’s ability as a punt returner.

I think you give him one more game and if it’s the same thing we’ve seen for the last 18 games, you have to look at someone else just as you would any other player. I don’t mean a TD just positive yardage and no more bad decisions like catching it inside the 5 or letting it go between the 10 & 15 so it can be downed inside the 5. That seems to be his habit for the last year plus.

By the way, Allie, be prepared to be called a #$%^in’ Hester Hater. Apparently, after yesterday’s post, that’s a new club and I’m in it with you.

F#&^(*$($&*&@#!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

huh? oh, you’re right, we’ve already been through this.

i do agree with you that he has not been making great decisions on when to field the punts. i’m just willing to give him a little more time. as long as he doesn’t cause any major problems, til the end of the year.

He's had bad judgement on when to field punts forever.

I remember way back in the good ol’ days, when Hester was in his “prime” and you and I were walking to school, with no shoes, uphill, both ways, that he used to do the same thing. The difference… the good was nixing the bad and memories were shorter when the touchdowns were there.

He also used to go East and West a lot, but he also used to find holes (that aren’t there now). He would be much better utilized as a KR, where he has room, and the vision to make those plays (IMO).

I've said the same exact thing (regarding KR vs. PR)

on two seperate occasions the last few days. Our coaching staff doesn’t seem to put people in the best positions to be successful.

by BearFan611 on Sep 25, 2009 10:18 AM CDT up reply actions

Yeah... But you're a Hester Hater! :)

It’s not as if Manning wasn’t doing a good job though, or that Knox won’t. Nor is it that Hester won’t, or isn’t, doing that good of a job on punt returns.

But Hester’s brilliance (to me) is best suited where he can make those quick cuts and just fly by people when they get rooted for a split second. This happens when he has space – on KR’s, not when a guy is on him before he catches the ball. Thus causing him to have to run sideways and backwards a lot.

I’m with you, although this Knox kid could be pretty special – I just hope they aren’t going to hamper his ability in the passing game by putting too much on him in the return game. Kind of the opposite of the Hester experiment. Time will tell.

Exactly, as I've said many times here

Hester’s talent is outrunning angles with his speed, not making people miss in close quarters. That’s one reason we haven’t seen him do anything really special from scrimmage or if he catches the ball in traffic. Despite my new designation (Hester Hater), I really am impressed with his progression as a WR and he is at his best on the outside, not in the slot as some have suggested.

To me the guys who might have the most ability to return punts and make people miss with their moves are Garrett Wolfe and Earl Bennett. I would move Hester back to KR duty and one of those two to PR (probably Wolfe, assuming he can catch punts).

by BearFan611 on Sep 25, 2009 10:50 AM CDT up reply actions

Me no like Wolfe!

%&*#Wolfe Hater!!!!

Overall, I’m not a big fan either, but for the purpose we were discussing he might be worth a shot.

On another subject I was going to comment about the Briggs column regarding Aromashadu getting involved by saying I’d rather see him activated than Rashied, but after yesterday I don’t think @#%ing Hester Hater & @#%ing Rashied Hater will fit on my business card.

Ha!

Like a hypothetical fungus, the Droppapotamus is growing on me… In the role that he’s in, that is. He’s made some plays on ST’s and I seem him as extremely useful in that capacity.

Although, I still don’t like him and think he’s a cotton headed ninny muggins!

damn, dub H

i think we’ve all been through all of these arguments before but i guess it gives us something to do. since hester, knox and bennett appear to be enough for cutler in the passing game i think we have to stick with rashied for his ST’s play. remember, he was a CB at one point and he does a good job of getting downfield and making a tackle.

by genetic on Sep 25, 2009 11:15 AM CDT up reply actions

He's best suited for kick returns

because he doesn’t have to think as much. The guy is dumb as a goddamn brick, so having to make split-second decisions on a punt return with a gunner flying at him doesn’t exactly play to his strengths.

Tyrone Carter's hit on Olsen

I thought too much helmet when I saw it.

by No It All on Sep 25, 2009 6:38 PM CDT reply actions

and Tyrone Carter's inanity further convinces me of his unsportsmanlike intentions

“Unreal,” Carter told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “They said I led with the crown of my helmet. I watched the play over and over again, and I hit him in the shoulder. I didn’t hit him in the head.”

neither the fact that he hit him in the shoulder nor that he did not hit him in the head address whether or not he led with the crown of his helmet.

Just because it can be done on Madden NFL does not automatically make it a viable option in real life.

by Dane Noble on Sep 25, 2009 10:58 PM CDT up reply actions

probably a preexisting condition...

I would like to discuss your sig though. There is inherent truth to your statement, video games are not capable of accounting for the infinite possibilities that exist in real life.

However your sig seems to acknowledge that you do see Madden as having some value as a fairly accurate simulation of NFL football. “automatically” and “viable option” still leaves room for an enlightenment.

Also I acknowledge because I am really good at Madden my Bears might do better than the real ones occasionally. [i credit that fact for helping me maintain relative sanity during the “______ is the QB of our future” era.]

So yeah Hester out of the wildcat (the play that does exist in the Chicago Bears playbook [somewhere…please find it RON] referred to in the past as the ‘Cane formation, Forte in wildcat is called Cajun] might not lead to Hester leading the league in rushing TDs like it does in madden. Nonetheless, I think they need to try several different plays out of these formations in actual game time to figure out which ones they can use successfully… ie i think developing these plays designed to get the ball in Hester’s hands is worth the investment of 3-4 plays a game, especially if we can ever get a lead to sit on. Maybe a reverse play or something. It kind of angers and amazes me that in his 4th year in the league the Bears still have not thought of a more creative way to get Hester the ball than returning.

and to end with this gem: according to Madden Franchise mode Tim Tebow will be drafted by the 49ers and will be the league MVP in his second season.

I like his skills and everything

i just dont see him not wanting to be a QB, and i dont see that working out real well, being used as a reggie bush type.
i dont think it translates into NFL prowess…. i have been wrong before.
I believe he’d do well in a Viking offensive set, kind of a spread fast football, maybe

FB/TE nonsense

he will be starting QB in the NFL. if i cared enough i’d say i would almost bet my life on.

by No It All on Sep 26, 2009 3:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Just not a good one...

I say JaMarcus Russell/Vince Young 2.0. The cutesy running QB crap from the college level doesn’t translate too well. The wildcat thing is also cute, but it is not an offense, just a small subset of plays. A mobile QB is one thing, but no team has the guts to put together an offense where the main running threat is the highest paid player on the team!

There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.

by LostInSTL on Sep 26, 2009 5:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Jamarcus Russell isn't a running qb.

He’s just lousy. I’m a Gator fan and I love Tebow, but I’m not sure that his game is going to translate on the next level. If Urban starts running some pro-style sets for him it will help. With NFL teams starting to run the spread again though, you never know.
