So, what do you think about Kyle Orton?
All,
First, I'm a Bronco fan. Second, I'm certainly not popping over here to start anything. I have no quarrels with you folks. You're not Oakland. Folks over at MHR, the SB nation Bronco site, have been kindly debating the talents of our new starting qb, Kyle Orton. Needless to say, opinions vary. What I would like to do is just get a feel for what you folks think of Kyle, having probably seen him play more than most of us Bronco fans have over the past several seasons. So I'll use a poll (if I can figure it out). Here goes:

Kyle is a game manager, once he is accepted for what he is life will return to normal. From what I’ve seen of Kyle is that he is very good at the short passing game. He has some trouble with Deep Ball accuracy, but he usually makes good decisions. Watching him play in your system the other night showed me that I think he’ll have some success. The system seems to fit his style of play. You need to stop getting rid of good players though. Kyle needs all the weapons he can get. Bolster the D and get good special teams play and you’ll win 9-10 games, maybe not this year but in the future. if you get involved in a shoot out Kyle is not your man.
I cut the sleeves off because it looks awesome. NOW GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME!
He is an intellegent QB
However his physical skills limit his overall performance.
If he is in a position to throw short to mid-range passes, to move the sticks along with a decent ground game, he he’ll be fine.
If you quickly find youreself down by 10-14 points, you might want to see if your wife has any projects around the house.

I like Kyle
better than Grossman, i thought he made better decisions, but he is the master of the Dump off screen on third and forever.
people say he can’t throw the deep ball, but watch his stuff from purdue, it’s never been his problem, his strength anyways, but he’s not real accurate after 25 yards… but he can chuck it pretty far

Only repeating what has been said: intelligence at the price of athleticism
Orton is a fairly smart QB that may have a little too much confidence in his arm at times. Seems to have good character. I think he won us some games, where as Rex lost us too many. Uh oh, I just went there.
I admit
I was a little unhappy when news came down of the Cutler trade. I was happy with the performance Kyle gave us last year until the Lions-ankle incident. I think Kyle did a great job in the Falcons game, and should have won it for us, but the defense bombed out.
Is Cutler the better option for us, yes, I’m sure. Kyle did good things here, and we might have won in Miami if it’d been Orton over Grossman.
I don’t think Denver is a place that he’ll do particularly well unless the defense really steps it up, but I do wish him luck and I’m thankful for the winning records he brought the Bears while he was here.
I agree 100% with everything said here...
I think the game manager moniker is unfair and it came from his rookie season when he was thrust into that roll at the last minute with virtually no preparation. Even Cutler showed he can’t make a team with a bad defense a winner, but the Bears defense from last year wasn’t very good either, so Kyle can overcome some of that.
are you serious?
grossman being on the field in the superbowl didnt effect the defenses inability to stop joe addai or rhodes, we still would have lost if orton was the starter. In fact I dont think we even get there if orton starts the entire season wouldnt have even gotten there there is no way we score 27 on seattle with ko at the helm. dont get me wrong I liked what kyle did last year, but he was never gonna win us a superbowl.
"snuffalufagus fucks my shit up"
neither was grossman
the point is that Kyle would have done no worse in Miami, and could have made better decisions. like not throwing int’s when the game isn’t quite out of reach yet. we would have had a more balanced game with smarter throws made. our D let up some serious plays, yes… but so did grossman. if time could be re wound, i’d still start Orton in the SB over Grossman

I think our best bet in the super bowl
would’ve been to start every offensive series by having our longsnapper chuck it as far back as he could to #23, flanked by 3 blockers. I guarantee he would’ve got at least 1 more TD to add to his opening kickoff, and probably 2 extra! lol
Orton gets a worse rap than reality
He is not an elite QB but he wins over his teammates, he plays hard and he is capable of making plays to win games. His short to intermediate throws are quite good and he set a record last year for most completions without a pick in franchise history. So clearly he is smart and makes good decisions. With a good run game he can lead an offense that can put up 17-24 points per game I’d say. With a stout defense that should win you a few games.
Kyle Orton is an average QB...
But, average isn’t necessarily bad. When put in a situation where he can succeed, he will do fine, and win games. Last year, our O-line was a weakness. So, we started running a no huddle to minimize our weakness, and prevent the D from making substitutions. Orton excelled in it.
However, Orton’s best passing performances have always come against the Lions. He’s not talented enough to regularly extend the play or make things happen when things break down. And the inaccuracy of his deep throws will drive you nuts.

Orton may not lose you too many games,
but he will not win you too many either. He has limited skills (which he recognizes) and can be a skillful game manager. If you have a good to great defense and a good to great running game, he can do for you what Dilfer did for Baltimore.

Keep him out of third and long
and he will be fine. Not a guy to lead you from behind so run the ball, and play good defense. Your defense looks much more impressive than the prior year.
You can't get an honest assessment here...
Bears fans are QB apologists…we haven’t had a real one for awhile.
ESPN and everyone else continued to tell us Kyle was mediocre and we didn’t wanna listen. Denver has had Elway and Cutler…they know what a QB looks like.
Enjoy Orton.

anyone else notice that too?
All year it was, “when are the bears finally going to address the QB problems” yada yada, and then we pull of the trade, and it’s instant “well, Cutler isn’t really that good, he’s a crybaby, overrated” and all of a sudden the pro bowl went from being everything a player could aspire to be, to not a big deal, it’s all just fan votes anyways.
i always felt kinda put off by the complete 180 of opinions from the moment we did this.

journeyman
Orton is a journeyman QB, nothing more or less.
He might let a team cop a feel, but he won’t take you up the prom queen’s thighs.
