Charles Tillman May Not Be Ready for Green Bay

On his Twitter site, Brad Biggs has quoted Charles Tillman as saying he is only 50-50 right now from injury.  He is not sure if he'll be ready for the Green Bay Game.

Green Bay's offense has looked very good this pre season and with their QB and receivers we need all the guys we can get out there.

Ugh

I’d so much rather he be 100% for the opener, but if he’s unsure, then I’d rather he wait until he’s closer to 100% to play.

I don’t want to risk Peanut getting hurt because he’s coming back too soon, but our secondary is hurting without him.

I don’t know, opener is in one week. We’ll still win, but I’d prefer we make it look effortless.

I don't know, GB is a pretty important game.

If it was Detroit or some non-division team, I’d hold back, but against the Packers, I think you gotta throw him out there if at all possible.

by Poloplaya14 on Sep 7, 2009 9:00 PM CDT up reply actions

I think he plays

I think he feels a lot better than they’re letting on. Why would you want to telegraph to Green Bay that your better corner is ready to go? I think they’ll keep his work light during the part of practice the press sees, and that he’ll start on Sunday, riproarin’ and ready to go.

Is he 100%? Doubtful, but from experience with them, they’ll try to get him on the field as soon as possible.

by KDoggers on Sep 7, 2009 7:52 PM CDT reply actions

It's absolutely unrealistic to even expect him to be on the field for GB

We’ve known this for a couple of weeks now. That’s why we tried out Rod Hood. Even if Tillman did rush back, he’d probably get burnt all night long. Focus on Bowman’s health… he needs to play 4 quarters vs the Pack.

This is hardly surprising

Bears have been very coy about the actual injury status of Tillman all summer long. If it takes several more weeks for him to be football ready, then it is what it is. Other people will have to step up in the next several weeks.

what a shocker

good thing we have all that “great depth” people were talking about the day his injury was announced.

We Have To Get By Without Him

We will beat Green Bay without Tillman. Brigg’s stated last Saturday that Green Bay sucks. And I believe him.

Lovie is too smart and cautious to play peanut if hes not 100%

he sat key players through basically the whole preseason like manning, bowman and tillman due to injury no matter if they were minor or major. he wont play peanut if he knows he cant play up to his potential. he’d rather sacrafice one game than the whole season for his starters. this season is a super bowl or bust season in my opinion and the bears absolutely must be 100% no question all season. anything short of playoffs is totally unacceptable. i think all bear fans know that the bears for sure had the biggest off season of the NFL. we literally have a brand new team and were looking like legitimate contenders in a division that became one of toughest in the league basically over night. we need every starter ready to go this season because this year is gonna be crazy. theres probably about 20 teams that are looking like they could very well come out on top this year and winning it all. In my opinion theres really no clear cut favorite for the either the NFC or AFC. so many unsuspecting teams have turned into playoff contending teams over this past off season, and Green Bay is a perfect example of that. The Bears must be that much more hungry and vicious against every team they play this year, and we need all of our starters to do so. losing RB kevin jones for the season is a big deal but i feel we can produce just the same without him, hopefully. bear down!

i hope,he comes back 100 % or don’t come back at all.My Dad went through this surgery and he isn’t a starting CB in the NFL.It takes longer then expected because it is your back and you are a NFL player. That has to jump hit and be hit.I personally hope he is ok by week 5.

I have a feeling that

The Packers game could end up being a shootout. Both teams have a few questions on the defensive side and both offensives have clicked in the preseason.

by Sam Householder on Sep 7, 2009 10:28 PM CDT reply actions

if the bears offense "clicked"

then you need a new work for what the packers o was doing. i would not be shocked if this was a one way shootout, which i guess is a murder.

The key matchups

Jennings and Driver vs our secondary. Ouch. But… on the the flip side…

Olsen and Clark vs their converted DEs to 3-4 OLBs. Good luck to Aaron Kampman and Jeremy Thompson, trying to cover Greg Olsen. DEs covering TEs. LOL. The Packers D is gonna suck vs TEs all year long.

It's not just their top two we have to worry about though.

Jordy Nelson looks to be progressing quickly, and I think he may end up supplanting Driver by the end of the year. They’ve also got a TE, Finley I believe, who’s looking really good.
I don’t mean to sound negative going into the season, but I’m really, really concerned about Sunday.

If Tillman can't play, he can't play

No use risking him getting hurt worse and missing the season. Yes, it’s Green Bay and it’s an important game, but it’s still only one game. Someone else will step up (either McBride, Graham or Vasher) and get the job done for us.

what about the pass rush?

has anyone stopped to consider that our front D-line didnt get any type of pass rush so that the qb had alot of time to find a receiver? No matter how good the db is if a qb has all the time he needs he’ll find someone.

The other half of the glass.

On his full participation at Monday’s practice:

"I was very encouraged," Tillman said. "I felt real good. I didn’t feel limited at all. I was able to do everything. They didn’t hold me out of anything."

On his 50/50 chance of playing Sunday night:

"I don’t know of anyone who likes to watch on the sidelines, other than the fans," said the 2003 second-round draft pick. "I’m a player. I want to be out on the field."

Green Bay and Vikings still the teams to beat

…until the Bears prove otherwise. I’m very optimistic about this season, but the reality is that Rodgers is a hell of a good QB (is he even 26 years old yet?), and he has the right weapons at his disposal. And while Favre may wind up hurting the Vikes over the long run, their D is still the best in the division.

I appreciate everyone having different opinions as we should

But I would appreciate all personal attacks on me to stop as I read the bylaws & don’t see a ban on them. Please be fair. If someone doesn’t agree with my opinion fine then attack the opinion NOT ME! Thats a personal attack! And I don’t deserve that as they don’t deserve my bad language which I apologize for but obviously I’m frustrated with this behavior

That being said I hope for a win on Sunday

This is a revenge game on top on of all the hoopla of Cutler’s debut & all that. Its the worst blowout they have experienced in years & one of the few losses to Green Bay in more recent years. Its going to be a very tough game with a tough team but I believe in my team this year!

by Kayfabian Magic on Sep 9, 2009 7:41 PM CDT reply actions

Hope we can win Sunday nite

Everyone is picking the Packers but I do remember everyone picking the Colts. And Matt Forte at the time had never played a regular season game for the Bears. Someone talked about on the radio tonight how the game has changed with no real dynasties with any team having a chance to have a great season. So I guess I shouldn’t make much out of the predictions. Not to look ahead past the Packers but it should help with Troy definitely out against Cutler’s passing power. I wish the guy a speedy recovery but do realize it will help us with him on the bench for game 2.
