Report: Chudzinski not coming to the Bears.
Well why wouldn't a story like this come up on Saturday night?
Dan Pompei writes over at chicagobreakingsports.com that Chudzinski will not be joining the Bears.
A source close to the situation said Rob Chudzinski, who interviewed with the team Thursday, will not be coming to Chicago.
Take it with a grain of salt for now, I guess, but reports like this are very rarely wrong. It'll be interesting to see who the next candidate we talk to is--hopefully it's someone that they can talk to after the games tomorrow.
More thoughts after the jump.
This could be late night conspiracy tomfoolery, but it's really starting to seem to me like they're just slowly working towards bringing Martz in, as if Lovie's bringing guys in, and then saying, "Yeah, well, shucks, they're a nice guy, but I don't think they're the right fit for this football team."
Chudzinski would definitely have been an interesting choice, but let's go back to that big pool of coaches who are just dying to come to Chicago.
Helmet tip to Mike B for bringing this to my attention so late on a Saturday.

Kinda a double-edged sword.....
You come to Chicago as a coordinator, and if you don’t do well, Lovie’s out the door, along with everyone else, likely. If you do well, Lovie gets the credit. The only real win for an ambitious OC is for the offense to be great, but the defense to be so bad that the Bears lose despite all the points, and what coach worth his salt actually roots for a loss?

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise !!!!!!!!!!
NOT ………… Who the hell in their right mind is going to be eager to joing this organization? Martz, Martz, and maybe Martz. What a joke this team had become. Of course I could be wrong and someone from a palyoff contender will break the door down for the privelege of being with Lovie………LMAO
Anyone thought about
what if Martz has been watching us court OC after OC and decides, “yannow, maybe I don’t want to go there.” What if we really do need to recruit from the high school level for an OC?
i read it as "chud not coming to the bears"
not “bears don’t want chud”
this team is beyond pathetic.
you're right,
you’re right, and you’re right

Dear Bears Heirarchy;
Mismanagement is the only thing it seems all of you can manage, if this fiasco, called “coordinator search” is really, truthfully now…in the “Grand Scheme” of things why not just cut the shenanigans or charades or smokescreen or whatever spin you want to put on it and hire Martz cos’ it’s obvious your calculations didn’t and aren’t going to add up. To make it even a sadder situation, Martz probably thinking..you didn’t want me before this joke got out of hand so I think I’ll take a pass on your “high-end” job, “How do ya like me now”?…

I am slowly starting to think the same
as your “conspiracy theory”….
Bring in all these guys and in the end say “well golly we interviewed everyone and mike seemed like the best fit for our football team…”….Pretty much making this all a show for the fans…..
If martz is brought in I think it will be a LOOONNNNGGGG season in 10….but thats just me…..

I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul...."
- Jay Cutler to Ron Turner during the season
I'm with you Cloudy
If Martz comes in my bet in the pool is 33 ints
I really was hoping
it wasn’t going to come down to Martz, certainly, in my opinion anyhow, he is not the person the Bears need in any capacity. Not hoping to get him, but where’s the path leading?
"most football players are temperamental, thats 90 percent temper and 10 percent mental" Doug Plank
The rumor is
Lovie wants Martz, but ownership and Angelo don’t. Makes you wonder if Smith is tanking the interviews so that nobody will want the job (making an undesirable opening even more so).
DEJESUS!!!
WOW!
Dig that train of thought, makes as much sense as anything else I’ve heard lately…..“This is another fine mess you’ve gotten me into Ollie”…
"most football players are temperamental, thats 90 percent temper and 10 percent mental" Doug Plank
It's evident
how Lovie Smith’s face and presence have become not only repulsive to us, the fans, but to staff candidates as well. Until we get rid of him and all the others on top, this team is not going anywhere. Honestly, based on what I’ve seen so far this is the picture I’m painting- The Bears hire Mike Martz, possibly some other scrap unwanted by other teams that “would fit in”, same with defense. Sign 1 or 2 FA’s that are mediocre at best, maybe pull a small trade, burn the entire draft on positions that aren’t that critical…
Don’t any of them have the pure logic that you can’t fix a jet airplane with staples, elmers glue and scotch tape?
The only thing i disagree with is
burn the entire draft on positions that aren’t that critical…
They will draft criticle positions, they will just be horrible picks that “don’t pan out”.
they'll draft 3
more strong safeties that they think they can convert to FS.
DEJESUS!!!
What a big freekin joke this has turned into.
From that fake ass press conference to where we are now. The only way I come out of this happy is if they get Christensen from Indy. I have a real strong feeling that Martz is coming to Chicago. If they say he was a top candidate from jump, I will LMAO and display two #1’s towards my lcd.

only a joke
because most think the media is correct in everything they say. Teams in the playoffs coaches’ can’t interview, and just because they interview a guy doesn’t mean he was the correct man for the job. I wish it wasn’t taking so long & I wanted Chudzinski but I can’t call it a joke as a guy who has never gone thru or been close to the proccess of signing a NFL oc or dc.
My question is this the same source that said Fewell was a done deal for the DC
I personally like to hear these sources close to the action stories, but it seems to me that they are only about 50% accurate.
Ask yourself how many of these type things have we heard just this offseason?
Lovie to TN…Cowher to be our HC…Fewell as DC…Marinelli as DC…Martz as OC(ok that one may still happen)…so let’s just take a deep breath, relax, and hold off on putting ourselves on suicide watch…at least until we have a CONFIRMED source.

I understand where you are coming from,
I just have a feeling that this one is true. Many other teams, see who they want, go after who they want, and land who they want in a manner of days. Many of these teams also do that when it comes to picking up FA’s as well. Just trying to figure out, besides the coach on a hot seat issue, why we can’t go out and do the same. I already know the answere: because our organization is ran by incompetent ass clowns.

guilty of dragging their feet
But whose to say they are just in the midst of contract negotiation…
I know Martz scares the living jebus out of 90% of the WCG faithful but what’s the difference between him and Zampese(martz light)?
If Martz does come in, one of two things will happen…the Bears win and the risk was worth the reward… Or the bears lose and Lovie and the entire staff is gone and a Cower, Gruden, etc will be brought in

I agree, its a win win situation.
I would like to see them get back to winning games, that’s all. I would prefer it to be next year reguardless of whether its Martz or not. There’s a lot of folks on here that don’t believe that is going to happen and I totally understand their reasoning. I just like the concept of…. know what you want and do whatever it takes to achieve it. Past experience tells me that our management doesn’t live by the same standard. They seem to half-ass everything when it comes to achieving what is needed in order to win games.

The problem is
Martz is not going to be the next HC of Lovie is fired. That means he’ll be gone too, and Cutler will have to learn another offense the year after.
If they found an up and coming OC, at least there would be the chance of them being retained once Lovie is fired and giving the offense some continuity,
Playing qb is hard enough when you know the offense so well that everything is instinctive. You really put your qb at a disadvtantage if you make them learn a new offense every year because management has no long term plans.
DEJESUS!!!

It's had to make a case for a transplant of a healthy organ in a cancerous body.
A decent OC isn’t going to come to a team with a lame duck coach. It’s best to keep the job they have or home for another job with better security. The only realistic candidates are college OCs or guys no one else wants.
True, but
don’t forget that lovie actually isn’t a lame duck HC. If an OC comes in and they have a good year Lovie and crew will almost certainly be back for 2011 (the actual last year on his contract).
He isn't a lame duck on paper, Jhitt
But he is perceived as a lame duck by a lot of folks around the league, cause if he sucks next season he is quite likely out the door. Granted IF he makes the playoffs then he will likely be back. Big if.

what id like to see and its not that bad
what id like to see in an OC 1- utilize cutler better.. 2- coach up line ( tice i feel is a good move) upgrade the running attack by cutting wolfe peterson jones and go and get a third via fre agency and have forte bell and free agent rotate for change of pace..
pisa urlacher and briggs staying healthy should be a prettty sturdy group..
a ball hawking safety and hitter ala palamalu and were looking at least a playoff spot..
best part
you’re gettign to the point where they guy you get won’t do more than turner with another year with jay and some better talent could have.

While I wasn't high onChud anyway...
this is becoming a Pygmalion trend. As more people turn the Bears down, the more prospective candidates feel there is something wrong and convince themselves something actually is wrong, which makes them feel it’s wrong. (WOW and I’m not even high!) Anyway, this is a snowball that precedes the avalanche. I get the idea that Martz will end up as the only option. Thus, I have changed my tag line to suit the only other reasonable alternative; "IT"S NOT TOO LATE TO FIRE LOVIE!".
IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO FIRE LOVIE!
Maybe Turner
No, not Ron but his brother instructed Chud to feign interest in the job just to “stick it” to the Bears and Lovie.
Well it looks more and more like the team will be lucky to win 8 games next season.
"But it doesn't matter what I do, what I choose. I'm what's wrong. This is fate" - Dexter season 4....I mean Lovie season 6.
I can't defend them on this 1
I often point out to you guys that as fans we don’t know everything that goes on that leads to a lot of the desicesions the org and/or coaching staff makes. However, I was hopping for this guy bigtime. He has the successful NFL experence we need but, of course we don’t know if the guy interviewed well or not but it sucks either way!
terrible
he would have been a good fit…
I wonder who’s next on the list to interview… a coach from the Jets or Vikings… maybe Colts or Saints?
