Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Another Name For The OC Job

Photo

According to this article, the Bears are looking to interview the Ravens' Hue Jackson for their OC position.

Jackson has a strong reputation as a coach, and his experience includes coaching both receivers and running backs in the NFL.

We know he has experience and has lots of credit for working with Joe Flacco - I personally think it could be a good match.

What are your thoughts on this potential candidate?

Not Bad

I looked into him a bit when the Raiders were poking around him… 2 seperate stints calling plays so he has some experience

I have no idea

It’s not like the Ravens offense has been stellar lately, or ever for that matter.

Jackson has been widely credited for the quick development of quarterback Joe Flacco, the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.

I’m a bit dubious on his so-called development cause Flacco took a step back this season.

Personally, I think he’ll be another name that ends up snubbing the Bears.

The Ravens offense has been

better than at anytime I can remember. They’ve never been a really good team offensively. The last couple seasons I thought they stepped it up a notch, maybe more so last season.

Watching some of their games this season

and it seemed at some points that they tried to rely on flacco too much at certain points pretty much abandoning the run……

He had the Bengals WR performing

Houshmandzadeh – sp? (6th or 7th round pick?) not exactly everyones oh he is going to be good but turned out to be under Jackson

The WR formerly know as Johnson (Poko-loco, OchoCinco, whatever he wants to call himself) – had franchise and league leading records.

Chris Henry was another who worked under Jackson and did well for himself (on-fieled at least)

by TheMan1 on Jan 25, 2010 3:25 PM CST reply actions

Plus he has done a wide range of O coaching

WR, RB, QB, and OC

All that said, will he be good for the Bears????

I am not real familiar what systems he has worked with, preferences, etc.

Someone else will have to look into or know that one

by TheMan1 on Jan 25, 2010 3:29 PM CST up reply actions

Sounds like

he’s still under qualified for the Bears.

I'm not getting my hopes up this one.

I really wanted Chud and was devastated when I heard the news.

I think the organization really screwed itself by firing Turner and not Lovie. They should have cleaned house. At this point I would say Martz doesn’t even want to come here.

I'm resigned to the fact

that he’ll be named our new OC, just as soon as the Bears get denied by a few more qualified candidates.

I agree that Martz will be the OC and he will

succeed. I’m not sure about the SB but I think def the playoffs. Only if Martz reduces his salary will he end up as the OC, but he is willing to sign a 2 year contract with Lovie.

50/50 on this one .....

….. the Ravens offense looked great at times and looked really bad at others . Sound familiar ? Though Jackson does seem to be a more well rounded coach I’m just not a 100% on this one . Personally I think Zampeze from Cincy is a better option but Jackson’s style of football is what we want to do . So whomever we hire I’ll be good with it …… minus a Mike Martz hiring .

I mean there were times the ravens offense really clicked but towards the end they seem to stall….

Though I would prefer jackson over zampese….

Jackson

was not the Ravens OC, he is the QB coach. He doesn’t create their style, he doesn’t call the plays, he doesn’t make their offense balanced vs pass-happy vs. run-happy.

Cam Cameron is the Ravens OC (incidentally, he’s regarded as one of the 2 or 3 best OCs in the game).

If you have a problem with the Ravens offense, complain about Cameron. If you have a problem with the 07 Falcons offense, or the 03 Redskins play-calling, or Joe Flacco’s pro career, then complain about Jackson.

I would like to look into some of these coaches

that were let go by the Jets tomorrow. I would have done it tonight, but I’ve been busy. Of course, I loved Plank when he played for us, but I have no idea about him as a coach. All’s I know about the other coaches is that they came from the Jets, a way better defense than we had this past season…sure the hell like that. When it comes to Lovie and ex-Bears players coaching for him, alls I have to go on there is Rivera. I agree with you guys and say he doesn’t even get talked to by them. I do think he will reach out to someone let go of from the Jets though.

From reading

all those coaches were assistant to the actual position coach (except for the st coach)….Not to mention that Plank “coaching resume” is lacking (well outside of the AFL)…..No way they bring him in given Lovies track record….

I called this two days ago.

I figured he would be added with the way players were dropping from it.

The Pro Bowl is a joke now. Half the players aren’t even playing. The three AFC QBs are Schaub, Young and Gerrard. Moving it to before the Super Bowl and out of Hawaii was a terribad decision.

is it a joke now because there are so very few Bears on it?

Would it still be a joke if we had 8 guys on there? As I said elsewhere, it is what it is and still an honor for those selected.

Huh?

What have you read of mine to suggest that I’m a meat head?

The Pro Bowl is turning into a joke, not because a certain number of Bears players weren’t selected to it (as it should have be), but because of the amount of players that are backing out of it. On top of the fact that it’s been taken out of Hawaii, put in Miami and moved to the week before the Super Bowl. Thus eliminating even more of the “best” and chosen players from playing in it.

It is no longer an All Star game, since half the players are pulling out of it and we are stuck, inevitably, watching the second string. That’s if you even watch it.

more huh for smudgers

I made no comment regarding your meat head tendencies and that is not relevant.
The pro bowl has never been about the game itself. It’s been about the honor of being selected, even if the selection process is flawed. The players playing the game have always gone at half speed for as long as I can remember so, quite frankly its never been about the game itself. Playing in the game doesn’t make an all pro more of an all pro. What I have said is that it doesn’t matter that the GAME is watered down because the honor (as much as there ever was) remains.

You replied

to me, asking me

is it a joke now because there are so very few Bears on it? Would it still be a joke if we had 8 guys on there?

That implies that I believe it’s a joke b/c I’m a meat head. Therefore making it relevant, to me.

Besides that, I don’t care what speed the game is played. When you are on your 5th, 6th and 7th best QB’s (out of 16), it’s gotten ridiculous. I’m happy for Knox, but he was the third choice. Peanut would have been an alternate to an alternate… yet he can’t play and they have to go even deeper. Favre just dropped out, so the NFC QB’s have only one guy representing them that was voted in.

The honor starts to not mean so much with each person that’s added because someone else drops out. But let’s keep rewarding mediocrity. Hell, let’s give everyone a trophy!
