Knox Added to Pro Bowl UPDATED
Jeff Dickerson is reporting that Johnny Knox has been added to the NFC Pro Bowl Roster.
Knox, who is replacing the Minnesota Vikings' Percy Harvin, will be listed officially as a kick returner. It will be up to the coaching staff to decide if he'll see any action at wide receiver.
Chicago Bears PR Front Man, Larry Mayer, spoke to Knox about being honored.
“When I heard the news, I was speechless,” Knox said. “I was real excited to hear news like that. This was a long-term goal I had set early on in my career, but I didn’t expect it to happen this quickly.”
I'm happy for the young fella, but is a bid to the Pro Bowl really what it used to be?

Regardless of how lame the Pro Bowl has become
he’s in as a kick-returner and not a wideout. He deserves the recognition, he returned the ball damn fine this year.

I don't disagree.
He did a fine job returning kicks. But he’s in because yet another Pro Bowler backed out.

Good for him
But the Pro Bowl is a joke this year…
Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan.
I can't stand band-wagoner fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad.
i think i will only watch Knox return to opening kickoff to see if he returns it...
then i will be done watching the pro bowl. lol
congrats to our boy Fort Knox
I’m glad JK is being getting some cred for being a bright spot on a lousy team somewhere other than WCG, even if the Pro Bowl doesn’t really mean too much. I’m even happier to read a WCG post not entitled (insert name) declines Bears (insert title) position.

Hester has fallen off the map
Another indication that Angelo, Lovie, and Phillips should have been fired. Hester once the best kick/punt returner in the game now supplanted by rookies. Harvin and Knoxx. SMH!! Funny thing is Harvin and Knoxx were drafted as WRs but also can KR/PR, not a DB who was a pro bowl KR/PR, now converted to WR, sadly ineffective as a PR/KR and can’t play either.
It may or may not mean anything...
With the Pro Bowl being what it is these days. But it does say the other teams around the league notices that Knox is a legitimate wideout and perhaps the biggest play maker on the Bears.
who cares what a pro bowl bid used to be?
Does it matter?
It is what it is, and Knox deserves congratulations and hopefully many more such accolades.

What did it used to be and when was it that?
I’ve always seen it as a thing the best players got voted to, but it was never interesting to watch.
Here's a good article...
in my opinion. Link >>

I understand why this year's is bad
And fully agree. The week before the superbowl is just plain bad planning.
But is it any more interesting if it’s played after the super bowl?
Yes
It is.
When it is in Hawai’i where it belongs.
Interesting? I dunno.
I don’t really watch it anyhow.
But to the point, I simply feel that we’re now giving more and more Pro Bowl “honors” out to players like Knox. Players who had good/great years, but weren’t the best at their position.
Look at the AFC Pro Bowl Quarterbacks. Schaub, Gerrard and Young. No Brady, No Rivers, No Big Ben… and now no Manning. Just because they wanted to move it pre-Super Bowl. We are now watching the 5th, 6th and 7th best Quarterbacks (out of 16) represent that Conference in the All-Star game. It’s a friggin’ joke!

Maybe
It might actually be worth watching for a change.

Hey...
At the very least we’ll get to see at least one Bears helmet running around on the football field in January. It may not be much but as a Bears fan, I’ll take what I can get right about now.
Take it to the house JK! Make Chi-town proud!
Huh. Now I might have to actually watch some of that farce of a football game.

With so many players opting not to go
Wouldn’t surprise me if JaMarcus Russell made the pro bowl this year
Wouldn't surprise me
If Jerry TRADED our next year’s first round draft pick for JaMarcus Russell.
So basically if Rashied Davis
doesn’t get a holding call against the Browns and negate a Devin Hester return TD, then Hester is a Pro Bowler this year? Because that’s about the only difference between Hester and Knox this year.
