Tom Jackson on Brett Favre: "He's not afraid to throw an interception."

Who hasn't heard about this one?  After the Vikings' loss to the Saints on Sunday Night, Tom Jackson was covering the game highlights on ESPN.  He made a rather unusual quip about the game, and about football in general.

Jackson also made the following remark:

"That's the thing about Brett Favre: He's not afraid to throw interceptions. You have to admire him for that."

This remark led baseball writer Craig Calcaterra to remark on Twitter:

"That's the thing about Buckner ’ he's not afraid to muff a grounder. That's one of the things I most admire about him."

Which other ones can you think of?  Have fun with this!

Here are the links I promised.

YouTube video. Tom Jackson is at it in a different way there. Be sure to turn your computer’s volume up.

Here’s an article on this subject. There is a Twitter link there to where people can see other examples, linked to “on our own Twitter.”

I apologize for not posting these links in the post itself, but every time I tried to add them, WCG crashed. I tried the YouTube link three times, and the article’s link once before giving up.

Who cares if he's a Cubs fan? This is a football forum! He is a PACKER fan as well. So, from now until March, I’m sure he’ll dedicate a lot of his time here. In late March, then we can be enemies during the baseball season. Besides, the Cubs have perhaps the most loyal baseball fanbase in the country. You have to respect that.

Go Pack!

Yeah, he really did say that.

Also, in the video, he says Favre is “not afraid to throw picks, because that’s the way you’re gonna win a football game” or something like that.

I know, ESPN hiring someone who actually makes sense would be hypocritical.

My guess would be

He was referring to the mental aspect of the game. Not being afraid to make a big play and be the hero, but also not being afraid to make that horrible play and be the one to take all the heat.

Yeah, I spoke to a co-worker about that tonight.

He seemed to think the same thing.

That's gotta be it.

Last I checked, INTs by themselves usually aren’t good things.

Whatever the case may be,

Favre is the all-time pick throwing leader. It’s a catch-22. Just like Peterson, as great a back as he is those butter fingers of his is a real problem.

by Big Ike on Feb 1, 2010 12:45 PM CST up reply actions

That's BS

If Cutler threw that pick, he’d be castrated!! Favre throws it, and you have to admire him? F*** that!!

Correction:

If anyone but Favre, Brees, Manning, or Brady threw that pick, they’d be castrated. Those guys throw it, and you have to admire them.

Do I need to tell that ESPN.

Absolutely HATES the bears? I don’t know why they just do.

Stay the course and continue to lie?

Neither does Jay!

Does this make Cutler a great QB too?

It's called Favrism.

And it happens to be the religion that ESPN subscribes to, a complete devotion to all things Fav-Ray.

You can say that about Sexy Rexy and Jay too!

They should be in the running for Top 5 Quarterbacks in the NFL!

That's what I like about Jay Mariotti;

he’s not afraid to flaunt his stupidity. I admire that quality every time he opens his mouth.

That's the thing about Tom Brady.

He’s not afraid to ask for a roughing the passer penalty if an opposing lineman touches him. You’ve got to admire him for that.

That's why you've gotta like Peyton,

He keeps throwing the ball whether he’s up 3 points or 33 points with under 2:00 minutes left in the game.

ESPN

Admired the Vikings for scoring against the Cowgirls on 4th and 3 when they had a 3 TD lead in the 4th quarter. Yeah, thats really couragous and classy.

Why wouldn't they go for the score?

It’s the playoffs, no lead is too big.

Considering

How one-sided that game was and Romo being exposed for the overrated piece of crap that he is. There was no need for it. Go for the field goal. If they get stopped the vikes would be critizised instead of being praised for it.

by T.Moore on Feb 1, 2010 1:52 PM CST up reply actions

Clearly they believed the Cowboys would not be able to stop them

and they were right, so no need to settle for 3 when you are sure you can get 7.
