Week 5
Chicago Bears (3-1)
Carolina Panthers (0-4)

The Chicago Bears look to reestablish themselves after a terrible loss against the Giants. The Carolina Panthers are working to set an identity after a close loss against the defending champion Saints. Something's bound to break-out today--will it be the Bears running game or the Panthers passing game? Will Peppers own Bank of America Stadium today, or will he disappear behind the scrutiny of his particular matchups this week?

Lovie Smith before the game:

- Warm day today (85) but both teams playing in same conditions

- Last couple of weeks oanthers played games close and they are coming together

- They get off the bus running the ball. Will have to stop the run game

- Excited about Charles Grant in the future but get to see what Wooten can do today

- See a good size, smart football player great opportunity for Wooten

- Talked to Peppers about “coming home” but ready to play and should play well

- Injuries affecting O line. Webb and Williams will start and excited to see what they can do. O line played better in the second half of nyg game

- Oldest QB to start for Bears in the history of the franchise. Vet should be fine and play well

=========

Thayer’s Keys to game

- Yahtzee (putting names in the cup and then roll) on the O line have to step up and understand assignments and protections

- Tice has to make sure they step up. Think that Edwin Williams and Web have great size and strength have great potential

- On Defense understand what clausen likes to do

Ye though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil....

I like Webb's potential as a tackle.

Very mobile, and when he hits people, they get stymied. There’s still communication issues in terms of when to block inside versus outside. But he is a whole lot of potential for Mike Tice to work with.

I admit, I'm impressed with the gameplan

Not only are they protecting Collins with the run, it’s the type of run plays and misdirects ther’ye calling. Nice indeed.
