If Williams comes back at LT
I think you HAVE to still play J.Webb at RT.
He’s preformed better tham Omi did there through the first few games. There is no reason why you pull Webb after two solid performances
A dozen for Devin baby
I agree, but then don't you also have to keep Frank at LT and make Williams earn his way back?
Omi has been just as good, if not better than Chris Williams was when he was in there, in my opinion.
He's been better than Webb
Webb is a raw 7th round pick, and without a few penalties, Omi has been the Bears best O-lineman.

What?? No way man
Webb has been stout dude.
I agree with bearfan611
I think CDub should have to earn his spot back
A dozen for Devin baby
That's the thing though...
Williams didn’t lose his spot, he just got injured. And I don’t think Omi’s performance has been enough to call Williams Bledsoe.
That's true, but don't you think the NFL has started to move away from that old unwritten rule
in the past few years? I think Williams performance prior to the injury was questionable at best and if I were Lovie (first I’d shoot myself) with my job on the line this season, I’d play the best players.
Not funny bro.
Not something to joke about
I were Lovie (first I’d shoot myself)
A dozen for Devin baby
You've got to be kidding me....
I can’t believe anyone would take that literally. There was a post the other day about the open thread and people sometimes crossing the line and some people being overly sensitive. This, in my opinion, falls into the second category.
I agree that Williams didn't lose his spot.
I just don’t want to Williams come back and we continue to have a rotating line. Webb did a pretty good job against Carolina. I think he was overwhelmed against GB. We won’t even mention the NY game. Omiyale had two good blocks that helped Forte’s TD runs against Carolina. My biggest thing with Frank is the penalties and he doesn’t hold his blocks long enough.
If the coaches want Williams back at LT, fine. Stop rotating guys in and out every game. There not going to build any kind of chemistry by doing that. I fear we’re going to hit the hard part of the schedule (Wk 10 vs Minn) and not have any cohesion with the line. We’ve got some good teams coming up and there going to get Cutler killed.

That's exactly what they're thinking
Bringing back CW makes the most sense cause it does give the unit more cohesion. I can’t believe a 7th round draft pick, albeit promising, would help the unit be more cohesive in the long run. Now, next year I can fully see him winning the RT with a season of experience under his belt. Football Outsiders rated Webb in the red for the Carolina game, so it’s not like he warrants another start. CW had a rough patch there, but you have to give him a shot to win back his starting spot.

But is it a season of experience
If he gets taken off the field after performing solidly, if unspectacularly?

Yes
He’s digesting the Martz’ difficult pro-playbook. Omi doesn’t deserve to be benched. If he is our pass-protection will be worse, especially against top-notch defenses.

I wouldn't say that Omi
was playing worlds above Webb when he was in at RT.

I agree
he hasn’t been a world beater, but he’s definitely improved from last season. Like Allie said, we’ll just have to trust Tice to do his best job.

Only bring Williams back as starter IF he's 100%
CW has not demonstrated spectacular play in the games he’s started. If his injury leaves him at less than 100%, he will not be a better option than Frank. Even at 100% there are lingering questions as to his being better than Frank, his play has not proven that.
So far as Webb is concerned, I personally thought the right side played really well against Carolina, but it was Carolina after all. I think at this point in the season we should be much farther along cementing the starters in their respective roles (Captain Obvious here). I like the idea of having the beef on the line, coupled with the energy and enthusiasm of youth.
Give Webb and BOTH Williams boys the nod, let Frank spell the guys that need it. I think that is the line makeup of the future – plus some additional new talent.
If you don't ask, you don't get. So get on with it already.

This does seem to be the Bears chance
to make a little hay, in the NFC North. The Pack and Vikings are both at home this week, but the Pack is decimated with injuries and I’ll bet thy’re forced to sit Rodgers. And can we admit now, that Brett has gone to the well one too many times? It’s not just lack of weapons, he came in out of shape, and full of hubris, and he’s falling apart week by week. I’d be surprisedif he lasts the season.
If Cutler and Martz and Forte can balance our offensive attack AND employ a little game management, our defense is solid enough to keep us in most every game on the schedule.
Don't worry Boys, we'll weather this storm of approval, and come out as hated as ever.
Rodgers
He didn’t leave the game with a concussion, correct? So technically he doesn’t need to be cleared by independent doctors like Jay did.
There upcoming schedule is Miami, Minnesota, at NJ Jets, at Dallas, at Minnesota, at Atlanta. If Green Bay wants to make the playoffs then Rodgers must play.
by boondock_saint812 on Oct 13, 2010 8:54 AM CDT up reply actions
I didn't know the answer to your question...
And I still don’t. Not for sure, but this makes it sound as if having missed practice (with a concussion) is enough to bring in the independent doctor:
“Once removed for the duration of a practice or game, the player should not be considered for return-to-football activities until he is fully asymptotic, both at rest and after exertion, has a normal neurological examination, normal neuropsychological testing, and has been cleared to return by both his team physician(s) and the independent neurological consultant.”
I bolded the part I think pertains to the question.
Don't worry Boys, we'll weather this storm of approval, and come out as hated as ever.
Once the NFL says you
have a concussion, I think you’re pretty much done until both an NFL doctor and an independent physician clear you. The NFL is really starting to get all over this stuff.
Sidenote:
Either the Cowboys or the Vikings are going to be 1-4 after this weekend.
"More cowbell" - Bruce Dickinson; "More bell cow" - Lovie Smith
probably...but
they both could be 1-3-1 too :-)

Radio Notes from monday and tues
Sorry for these being late but here it goes:
Hub on the Score:
- Mediocre performance against one of the worse teams in the NFL
- D played well
- Still thinks the Bears are going to the playoffs but will be one and done
- Need more proof that the Bears can run the ball. Running game was inconsistent.
- Running numbers only good because of Fortes 2 big runs. Take those away and still bad running game
- Doesnt want to hear the all good running teams are. Have a couple of big runs and a bunch of small ones. That is FALSE
- Still need to prove they can run against a good team
- Taylor not much better than Forte in short yardage
- Martz knew he had to run the ball
- Does not know when Martz and Lovie will butt heads on the offense but it will happen eventually since Martz has a history of that
- Still thinks that Collins is the more logical choice as #2 QB
- Love fans watching TV to and giving their opinion on what Collins did wrong. Fans no nothing
- Protection is still poor
- Was INEXCUSABLE to go into the season as Hanie number 2. Should have gotten bulger
- He would personally start Collins over Hanie again as Hanie has proven nothing
- packers have better options at QB than Bears. flynn has played in big games and won them in the SEC whereas Hanie did not win
- Pretty Clear that Dez Clark is in Martz dog house even though he is the best TE on team
- Legacy of the Lovie Smith era is that the best DO NOT always play and thats why they are not winning
- Manu and O line played better but it was against the panthers. Should have done more but did not for a line that the Bears claim is playing well
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Zaidman on the Score:
- Defense and Offense meet seperatly to go over game plan. At one point the D unit heard loud screaming coming for the Offensive meeting
- It was Martz and Tice screaming that they needed to more physical and tough
- Game plan was to use the run to set up the pass but couldnt go to that as Collins had bad game
- Interesting note QBs combined QB rating on sunday Bears / panthers game was 10.9
- Bernstein disagreed that the run game was good as they only had 2 big runs but Zaidman disagreed with him thought he o line was good
- Think Hanie will be named #2 on Weds (was named #2 last night)
- Stunned more teams do not try to go deep on Bears safeties
- Bears are 62 – 2 when running the ball over 40 times
Ye though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil....

I take everything Hub says with a grain of salt
he has an ax to grind with the bears ever since they cut him loose.

Like I stated before…I do think he does have an axe to grind but it is nice to sort of get a different take on the team….Even if it is the “Ya the Bears are 15 – 1 but they are not that great” (though it can be irritating at times)….

Still thinks that Collins is the more logical choice as #2 QB
He would personally start Collins over Hanie again as Hanie has proven nothing
I used to not mind Hub, but he’s gotten worse over the years. The first statement shows me that his skills at being a human being and having eyes are lacking.
The second statement suggests to me that while Hanie hasn’t proven anything, Collins has, and what Collins proved is that he doesn’t have anything left. He made piss poor decisions and bad throws against what should have been an easy pickings Carolina defense. Remember Brian Griese? That Carolina team is the kind of team he would have absolutely eaten alive with his short game check down passing. Collins, on the other hand, couldn’t seem to hit the spot if we had enlarged it and angels had come down from heaven to guide the ball.

Sometimes experience is overrated.
Where would the Patriots be if they decided to play Damon Huard over Tom Brady when Bledsoe went down? Brady had no experience and had not proven anything, but three rings and a beautiful head of hair later.

That's what I'm saying
The unproven is better than the proven bad, methinks.
And don’t get me wrong. I completely agreed with the logic coming into the game—go with experience. We’d all kind of figured the Giants was an aberration, so I was willing to give COllins the pass after that.
But after the Carolina game? Hoo doggy.

It’s mediocre cause Collins brought the entire teams performance down with him.

What? Is he the only guy in the world that believes this drivel?
- packers have better options at QB than Bears. flynn has played in big games and won them in the SEC whereas Hanie did not win
What’s his beef with Hanie? He played very well for an awful CSU team, while Flynn had loads of talent to play with. What will he say when Flynn sucks it up on Sunday?

Or is Hub a walking bitter beer face?
Seriously, I haven’t heard that much sour grapes come out of one person before, and that’s even including Mariotti.
He’d start Collins again over Hanie? Great, we know one person to never allow to coach peewee football, let alone a legitimate team that has a great shot of making a playoff run.
I agree with a lot of what other people have said, you have known knowns, and unknown unknowns. We know Collins is terrible. We know Collins struggles at throwing the ball more than 15 yards, let alone accurately. We know Collins has absolutely zero future with the team as he will almost undoubtedly return to retirement after this season. We don’t know exactly what we have in Hanie. We don’t know if he can be the legitimate backup of the future. We don’t know if he can handle the in-game pressure. We don’t know if he’s been able to properly digest the offense.
Starting Collins literally does nothing for us, he’s not going to have a “good” game, and we learn nothing about the situation if he has a bad game that we didn’t already know. There is something to be said for making decisions that have possibly positive outcomes, instead of those that at best break even.

Okay, so someone please tell me I"m wrong and why. Believe me, I want to be wrong but I don’t think so:
Seattle——-____Win
Washington___Lose

That leaves us at 7 and 9
After watching many of these teams we will play, I just don’t see us beating them.
Yeah your right sounds like 7 in a row to me..
Lions 1-4
Pack about to be 2-3
Vivking 1-3
Philly nearly lost to 0-5 SF
NE almost lost to Buffalo
Love the optimism though!!
"We were freaking robbed!! Our defense totally dominated all day! What? we gave up nearly 500 yards on defense? Yeah but we stopped them on the 1 yrd line! Our D is awesome!!"

I Really hope so.
Just watching that Minnesota game scared me. With Moss, and getting Rice back, their gonna win games. Detroit is also gonna be tough at home. Their going to be pissed about the first game. I might waffle on the Washington game but the rest of the predictions seem pretty accurate to me.
Like the one they won against the Jets?
Oh…wait.
If I did what I love for a living, what would I do in my free time?

Meh
Go look at what every team we’ve played has scored against other teams, then what they scoed against the Bears. Our defense is giving up less than 15 ppg.
Don't worry Boys, we'll weather this storm of approval, and come out as hated as ever.
Did you check out the first half or
just the third quarter??

Moss will get some catches
but he’s just a noisy plug, in a sinking ship.

You actually believe
the Bears will lose 4 out of 6 home games? How high are you?

Hm...
I’m the negative one… and I don’t completely disagree. Lots of could go either way games. And I really have no idea how good this team is.
I do think they’re going to win the close ones though, for the most part. They don’t take loads of dumb penalties and they have Toub.
Nobody who ever gave his best regretted it. -George Halas
Agreed on one part...
We’re going to win the close ones, for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Also, you’ve got players like Peppers/Urlacher/Briggs/Hitman/Tillman/etc across the defense that are getting older and are the very definition of veterans dying for a chance/another chance at a Superbowl ring. If we need a late turn over, field goal block, whatever, I trust this defense over any in the league to make it happen when we need it most.
I think we’ll do a lot better than the original poster mainly because of Peppers. It may be a long clock, but it’s a clock. Even if Peppers gets zero help he’ll eventually sack the QB unlike previous years where the QB could literally stand like a statue for 10+seconds with no worry of eventual sack. It’d be better if he had some help, but it’s enough and leaps and bounds better than last year.

He counts as much as Alex Brown, or Ogun would have...
I think Izzy brings a lot more to the table, but he isn’t anywhere near the level of say…the plethora of linemen the Giants have where it’s a company of equals instead of one guy making opportunities for the other guys.

Like Griese two years ago, Warner and Palmer last year?
Jeebus, that was difficult to watch. Thanks goodness for a man-sized man named Julius!

Well for starters
You can’t predict a damn thing about the second half of the season going into week 6. Who would have assumed that half the Packers would be missing by this point in the season.
Additionally, playing in two domes on the road late in the season isn’t necessarily the worst thing in the world for this team. It’s predicated on speed and timing, and the passing game should be able to function better when the ball doesn’t feel like a frozen rock hitting receivers in the hands.
The Jets continue to look inconsistent in their ability to score points.
Depending on who plays the QB position for Philly, it can go either way. Washington is up and down as well, just depends what trend you catch them on.
Miami has a lot of potential, but they’re only showing it in flashes right now.
Why don’t we worry about the game against the Seahawks now, instead of predicting doom in uncontrollable situations that are 4-8 weeks away?

Playing games
On paper…Nice…Considering everyone had the Bears losing to green bay and dallas what happened there….
Anyways no one can predict injuries, turnovers, or performances that far out….At one point last season denver was going to the Super Bowl….
BTW this happened to the Bears in Madden 11 when I simulated the season….Bears were 7 – 1 at one point then lost the last 8 games….

Playing games on paper is good for only two things
1 – gives the bored something to do
2 -
One time while a young lad, someone made fun of the Ditka name. One time.

Idk if anyone saw this
but it merits some attention, cause analysis on this site is great. PFF breaks down the Panthers game.

Really? Sounds to me like he’s making excuses for Matt’s stinko performance.

Briggs
Have we heard anything about his injury? Ditka forbid Briggs goes down but who’s his backup? Iwuh? Merriman appears to be down in San Diego (or what I like to call a whale’s vagina). Should we bring him in if Briggs misses any time?

Lovie said on Monday
that he was optimistic he’d play. He also mentioned that he might be able to practice today. We’ll have to see what Biggs says later this afternoon.

CW to play left guard and Garza to the bench.

I don't really know what to think of this...
I guess the talk of CW being a Guard may have come true.

Kinda of figured
that Garza was on the way out….Dont know how many times I seen Garza (and sometimes Kreutz) fall so far back that they are on the QBs lap……
All I know is that Hub (and a good chunk of Bear fans) is / are going into rip into the CWilliams pick even more…..

Wow...just wow
Maybe he won’t look as bad inside as he did outside. I thought we wanted to get more physical inside though…everything I’ve heard is that Williams is a finesse player rather than a mauler…
(Asshole Sr) "If you learn one thing here, NEVER pass out in Ohio."
I didn't see that coming.
I don’t know how I feel about that. CW doesn’t really use brute force. I hope Tice knows what he’s doing.

That audio of Favre’s game-losing interception is spectacular. And a great featured article too. Nice work.
