The Bears Den: October 27th, 2010 Edition
Follow WCG on Twitter. Or don't. But mostly do. And forget when I said don't.
Streaking/Slumping: Week 7 - ESPNChicago picks it's streaking and slumping players. Here's a hint: DaHamsta is happy about one of the streaking players, and it is most definitely not Jay Cutler.
Bears brass refuses to see mess right in front of them - I think it's sort of like the people who are on an airplane, and their baby is screaming, but they just sort of pretend like it's not a big deal. But it is. It's a huge deal and it cost millions of dollars.
Bears sign punter McGee to back up Maynard - Hmmmm...
Flag Lovie for bypassing own rule - Lovie admitted he made a mistake. That's good, right? Yes, yes it is. Here's an idea, though: STOP MAKING THE MISTAKE CONSTANTLY.
FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Week 7 DVOA Ratings - This one is for you stat hounds out there.
Bears lineman Idonije making the most of Peppers Effect - Izzy has been blowing up the past couple weeks. Now, if the Bears can just get a little more from the guys in the middle, maybe they can sit back and ballhawk. The defense apparently needs to score points again.

"Lovie Smith is 1-for-5 on replay challenges this season, 3-for-15 since the beginning of 2009 and 18-for-58 overall"
From a Tribune article earlier this week. That’s…ouch.
His accomplices in the booth this season:
In the box are assistant defensive backs coach Gill Byrd, tight ends coach Mike DeBord, defensive line coach Eric Washington and quality control coaches Andrew Hayes-Stoker and Mikal Smith, Lovie’s son.

Quote of the Day, courtesy of FootballOutsider's article:
@matthewglidden: Do you track all-time worst DVOA on third down? If so, how do 2010 Bears compare?
The Bears currently have a horrific -117.1% DVOA on third and fourth downs, and if the season ended today, that would indeed be the worst figure we’ve ever tracked.
I posted this in a fanshot last night but it bears repeating.
For all the hoopla over how complex martz’ offense is, the redskins found it hilariously simple to crack. Haynesworth even said all he did was watch which players were talking to each other when they were lining up and they knew where they were going with the ball. What an effing joke, some offensive genius you are mike martz.
Oh and a backup punter? Are you freaking serious?

I’m not happy with the way Martz is running the offense at the moment, but it hardly seems like his fault if the linemen felt the need to discuss their assignment. In his Rams playbook, Martz had very precise instructions on how the team were to huddle up which, one imagines, was – among other things (Lester?) – to avoid just this sort of tell.

I've been saying this for about a year now...
Brad Maynard is only effective when you have good field position. If the offense is outside of their own 40 yard line he is a detriment. His strong point is directional kicking to keep the opponents inside their 20 but when you are outside of that 40 yard area his leg strength is terrible and he cannot change the field position game for you.
I agree
But don’t carry 2 damn punters that is absurd, just cut ties with maynard if you want a guy who can bomb it.
by lopey986 on Oct 27, 2010 10:23 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions
from what I've read, it doesn't look like they will be carrying 2 punters during the games
but just wanted a fresh leg in practice during the bye week. Also, it’s probably an audition for next year if Maynard continues to regress.
Really?
I don’t really see how it’s Martz’s fault if the players can’t sort it out while they are still in the huddle. I think that’s referred to as “projecting,” and that’s not very fair. There’s a lot to blame on Martz, but that sure isn’t.
Colt's fan friend - "This is our dog, we named her after Peyton Manning."
Boondocksaints812 - "You named her Bitch?!? Did you train her to lie down when you run towards her too?"
Really?
It isnt martz fault for failing to notice his players are giving off a massive tell that the opposing team figured out very quickly and fix it? Whose job is it then?

Lovie
Smith? Na both…..Course I think martz thinks he is the HC and Lovie is there to run “his” (ie martz) defense……Because you know….They went to a Super Bowl that way….

DeAngelo Hall's jersey from last Sunday is being sent to the HOF.
The Washington Redskins cornerback announced Tuesday on Twitter that the No. 23 he wore in Sunday’s 17-14 win over the Chicago Bears is on the way to Canton, Ohio.A quote from Hall:
A spokesman for the Hall of Fame confirmed that it had asked for the jersey.
“[Cutler and the Broncos] beat me on four passes, four comebacks maybe for 34 yards,” Hall said on “The Scott Van Pelt Show” on ESPN Radio. “And for him to come out after the game [Sunday] and say, ’I’ve had success against him. If I had to do it again, I’d keep coming at him,’ the kid just don’t know football.”
Sadly, they had a ton of opportunities to make hall pay
And they failed to run a double move all game.

From Jensen article
Limit the mistakes, run the ball more and don’t be afraid to punt, and the Bears’ offense can grow and become more aggressive in time.
That will be a cold day in hell….Sure martz laughed that article off….

If people ....
….. can’t even bother to read them properly then I see little point in keep them up, as every subsequent post simply cascades down from that point.
Why don’t you write a fanpost if you are so concerned?

PLease don't post anymore fanposts
If you are going to constantly yank them because you don’t like what is written then don’t do it. It frustrating to go back and read a thread to see who responded to what only to have you yank them them the next day. Man up..

It is even more frustrating to face a barrage of comments after spending hours researching which have absolutely nothing to do with what I have written.
if people aren’t actually going to read what is actually written then I have no intention to. Maybe the people who respond with comments that completely twist and distort what the author of the article has written should man up.
