Around SBN: Yankees Deny Rumors That Team Is For Sale

Ask the Phinsider

I was looking all over for this, but seeing as it hasn't been posted, I decided to do it myself.

If you bears fans are not familiar with this, you just ask questions about the dolphins and me and other phinsiders will try to answer them.

It will be greatly appreciated if you do one of these over at our site.

Here are a few common questions you might have

Q: I heard chad pennington started on sunday, whats going on with your QB situation?

A: Well, on sunday, it was chad pennington starting on a QB change from Chad Henne that many questioned, and then on the second play of the game, pennington threw what likely was his last ever pass. Chad Henne came in, played decent, then got injured late in the 3rd quarter. He is likely out for a couple games. Tyler thigpen, our third-string QB played decent, and will probably be starting on Tuesday.

Q: How have the draft picks looked?

A: Jared odrick (DE/DT), our first rounder, got injured in week 3 or 4 and is done for the year. Koa misi, the second round OLB, is starting opposite Cameron Wake and is doing a pretty good job. I believe he is 2nd in sacks for rookies. John Jerry (RG) won the starting job, then became ill, and now he rotates with Pat Mcquistan at RG.

A.J. Edds (MLB) got injured in training camp and is done for year. Reshad Jones is the backup safety but just recorded his first sack and interception last week. Nolan Carroll (CB) looked very impressive in training camp, but is our 5th corner and kick returner. Chris Mccoy is no longer with the team

Q: How have Brandon Marshall and Karlos Dansby looked?

A: Both have looked just as good, if not better, than advertised.

Jake Long?

How does his status look for Thursday?

What about the other “injured” players?

by Doshi on Nov 16, 2010 4:17 PM CST reply actions

Injured players

Long needs surgery but he says he is gonna try to play through it. It was reported that Chad Henne was gonna be out for season, but coach sparano says he may play on thursday. Chad pennington is done. Cameron Wake had a hip injury but it doesn’t look serious. Vernon Carey is bothered by a knee injury but he always plays through injuries. Both our starting safeties are dinged up. I believe thats all the injuries against the Titans.

With Thigpen in

Will we see the wildcat more, similar to what we saw on Sunday, and why has Ricky Williams not been used more, he seems to still be running hard?

I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.

by Topher Doll on Nov 16, 2010 9:08 PM CST reply actions

Both very good question

Wildcat – While there is no certain answer there are a few factors IMO
1 – Henning likes it and it was succesful last week, so he may try it based purely on that
2 – Thigpen being more mobile then Henne may allow for more wrinkles (hell, Thigpen caught a TD out of an option/wildcat type offense in KC)
3 – If Thigpen struggles it may be necessary
4 – on the other hand, the reason for the drop off in use has more to do with the general ineffectiveness it has had this season. That is largely due to a drop off in the talent on the interior O-line. Our running game in general has suffered this year

Ricky – We all wish we understood the personnel use and decision making of the offensive coaches. Two weeks ago Ronnie brown was clearly running harder but ws often taken out of the game. On the other hand, we can’t see what is happening behind the scenes.

I have to say

I’m glad you explained how it worked. :)

Seriously, though, is it really in the Dolphins best interest to let Long play with essentially one arm? He might want to have that for trying to stop pass rushes. If he doesn’t play, how confident are you in the juggling of the offensive line that will occur to replace him?

If I did what I love for a living, what would I do in my free time?

I am worried about it. I don't think we have a lot of depth on the OL in general

I am glad Thigpen is mobile…

With our injury/QB situation we have been flooded :)

Brandon Marshall

So far this year he’s 10th in the NFL in receiving with 55 receptions for 652 yards, obviously leading the team, but he has only one touchdown on the year. Why is this? How does the team’s approach change in the red zone?

by Steven Schweickert on Nov 17, 2010 7:59 AM CST reply actions

wow, you guys are asking the most pointed questions right at our weak spots

The basic complaints in the redzone have been leveled at one or two favorite targets whose last names sound surprisingly similar. Chad Henne and Dan Henning (OC)

Some fans claim it is because Henning suddenly freaks out when we get close to scoring and is more concerned with at least walking away with 3 (Dan carpenter is practically a shoe in for the probowl this year and has been great on my fantasy team) rather than take the chance for 7.

Others claim that Henne isn’t accurate enough/good enough at reading the D such that in a shortened field with more defenders in close proximity he can’t deliver.

Marshall isn’t targeted enough perhaps. He does drop passes sometimes too, although frankly all our guys are guilty of that at times.

Plus Marshall is frequently doubled or even tripled

We try.

Here’s another one… How’s the WR corps holding up in general? You’ve got Marshall, which goes without saying, but Camarillo was traded to the Vikes, and Ted Ginn Jr. is off in the mines with the Niners.

So who’s the second option at WR these days? Does Fasano have a shift from TE to WR in his future like the way our own Greg Olsen has been used?

by Steven Schweickert on Nov 17, 2010 12:37 PM CST up reply actions

You haven't heard of Davone Bess(t)?

Or Brian Hartline? Ok. Brandon Marshall is obviously our #1, then Davone Bess is a very quick and agile little guy that is very hard to tackle and is MONEY on 3rd down. Brian Hartline is a nice 2nd year reciever that’ll get a couple catches a game and make a few nice plays. Anthony Fasano is maybe average as a recieving tight end but he is very good blocker. Then of course, Ronnie and Ricky both are nice options out of the backfield.

by PhinPhan910 on Nov 17, 2010 2:35 PM CST up reply actions

No, I've heard of 'em.

Just wasn’t sure how they sat as far as the team.

Regarding Fasano, seems that he always makes a fair amount of big catches. I will take your word for his blocking.

by Steven Schweickert on Nov 17, 2010 2:43 PM CST up reply actions

Fasano also has a fair amount of big drops sadly

good blocker though as said

One place we have been very good all year is 3rd down conversions and that is laregly due to our receiving corp. Not saying Henne gets no credit for it, but he has some good security blankets.

If though lathis past sunday shows a change of coaching philosophy (Henne had several more deep pass attempts, with some nice connections too) and if thigpen can play then all bets are off.
Truthfully you will see a lot of new stuff just like us.

Perhaps the drops were some kind of disgruntlement(I don't know if that is a word)?

As soon as he got overpayed, he goes out and has a career game.

MC Hammer was dissapointed when he found out that Kevin Durant could touch this.

There should have been more catches, but our WRs don't fight for the ball and good DBs

can smack the ball out of their hands.

Thigpen is your best QB IMHO.

I think he’ll get the best out of Bess in the slot and Fasone down the seams against Chris Harris while we’re double covering Marshall. And I hope we’re double-covering Marshall. We have a habit of trusting the zones and letting the Steve Smiths and Calvin Johnsons let rip …

I’m most worried about your NT, Soliai, he threw Nick Mangold around like a sock puppet the one game I saw him in. He’ll cut through Kreutz every time, so I think the difference between us will probably come down to ST ?

On ST you guys have a huge advantage

and not just because Hester should make the HOF as a special teams player (rare or unique, i don’t know)

But also because our STs are not very good on coverage.

Our Kicker, while clutch when it comes to FGs, does not get a lot of touchbacks usually. Sunday he actually had 3 which was shocking. For our sake I hope he figured something out and can keep that up.

Our punter actually is pretty good, too bad the coverage sucks. My hope is that he is practicing booting the deep out of bounds punt, because if this unit ever kicks to Hester your average field position will be on the Miami 35 yd line.

I don’t mean to be so negative about my own team, but this really scares me much more than Thigpen with an injured Long and a backup C (to our center who was a backup center)

I agree completely

Miami’s special teams coverage has been bad enought the Bears could win simply because they either score on special teams or start off with the ball in field goal range every time.

It is a shame Odrick is on IR.

He was beastly in pass rush and demanded a double team. Leaving Starks and Wake solo. These are our two best rushers along with Misi. Our lineman might not get sacks, but they will rush some throws, especially on 3rd downs when a run in’t expected. Langford looked like a potential pro bowler at the beginning of this year but has just gone back to what he does best, be solid and does his job almost perfectly. Misi has surprised me in all aspects, but our LBing corps needs to get faster, they play zone a lot on 3rd and long and don’t tackle the underneath routes until they are past the sticks or they play man and someone forgets to cover the TE running a seam route, FML.
