Kurt Warner

is a tool. Even if I do kind of agree with him in that article.

Give me a break

How is Kurt Warner a tool? He makes a good point. And he always has something intelligent to say unlike some sports anylists who formulate there opinions from watching 2 minutes worth of hilights.

I hope your not suggesting we root against Jerry's picks

because you want him fired. He picked them not the other way around. As a fan I want my team to do well and the players to do well. Besides, Jerry has done plenty to be fired over without rooting against the team or some of the players.

Rec.

For two reasons – 1) a sane response to those for who want the team to lose out if a Super Bowl victory isn’t in the cards so as so get Lovie and JA fired, and 2) your signature.

I'd like to know if Kurt Warner's statement was accurate....
Warner said he reached out to Cutler ‘’early on,’’ not specifying when, but he didn’t hear back

Wouldn’t you think, that with the problems we’re having on Offense, that Martz/Lovie/JA would fly Warner in to spend a few days with Cutler like they did with Tory Holt and the WR’s? Hell, Jay’s making enough money to pop for plane ticket himself if he really wants to get better.

It bothers me that either Cutler doesn’t want to accept help/coaching or the people in charge aren’t forcing it on him. Either way, being an elite player, especially at the QB position, means taking the extra step to get better. If you have the opportunity to learn from the guy who really put that offense on the map, why wouldn’t you, at least, look into it?

If the story is true, it lends credence to Jay’s reputation of “not being the hardest worker” that a lot of his critics bring up.

That what I found odd

I thought I remembered that too...

or at least of Cutler acknowledging Warner’s offer and intending to accept it….

by David in Maine on Nov 18, 2010 9:35 AM CST up reply actions

Think about your job,

It sucks when people who’ve done it before try to tell you all the little things they did better. Or maybe Jay just hates voicemails like me, and doesn’t check them, and never heard Kurt’s heartwarming invitation.

by jimribs on Nov 18, 2010 9:30 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah, but how many people where you work are headed to the HOF?

My point is that if Warner is willing to help him out, if I were Martz and/or Lovie, I’d be insisting he take him up on the offer. The heck with egos and bruised feelings, we’re trying to win football games and a division title. Do what you have to in order to get better.

by BearFan611 on Nov 18, 2010 9:37 AM CST up reply actions

You're so cute, with all that feel good "do what we have to do" stuff

I love Cutler – OK, I really think he’s destined for greatness – anyway, He’s got an ego the size of the stadium. Ask for help? Seriously? That would be seen as a sign of weakness by a man with his ego.

I’m not sayin’ I disagree with you, but the one thing Cutler is unlikely to do is reach out for help. He’ll be on the gurney before he does that, IMO.

I’m not even saying it’s smart, but I can see where Jay doen’t feel like he need Warner’s help. Somebody else here said “Warner’s kind of a tool” or words to that effect. Maybe Jay just doesn’t respect his opinion much, perhaps Martz keeps telling him “You’re 10 times the athlete that Kurt was, you got this”. All speculation.

One thing that is indisputable is that Cutler believes he has this under control. He believes in this system, and he’s gaining more proficiency every week. Cutler will be great.

If you don't ask, you don't get. So get on with it already.

by Suffering from Chicago Sports on Nov 18, 2010 10:02 AM CST up reply actions

I'm not really that cute but I appreciate the compliment....

So you’re saying that it’s okay that Jay just keeps going along and because he has a huge ego the people who run the team should just let him do it the way he wants? Yeah, that’s the way all truly great players approach their jobs! Also, no one said anything about Jay reaching out to Warner, it was the other way around, and if someone with his success offers you some help, why wouldn’t you try it?

Remember Warner isn’t from another era either, where Jay could claim “what he did wouldn’t work in today’s NFL”, he was in the Super Bowl 2 years ago. Again, if they thought it was a good idea for Bruce (credit to suckmyditka) to work with the WR’s to teach them about the system, why wouldn’t it be just as good an idea for the QB who did it best working with your young signal caller since, according to the article, he’s offered to do it?

And “do what you have to do” isn’t a “feel good” statement, it should be any professional’s mantra.

I didn't get any of that from what Warner was saying

I don’t see a lot of people saying Cutler is lazy or “not being the hardest worker”:

Kurt Warner is an analyst not a coach, Cutler spends a lot of time with Martz who speaks english why would he need an Intrerupator?

I have a hard time believing that you know what Cutler wants.

give Lovie some love!

by ed_brown on Nov 18, 2010 11:28 AM CST up reply actions

I'm not sure where you're going with this...

If you read what I wrote in the subject line, I was questioning the accuracy of the report. Then, I said that “if” it’s true that help was offered and he’s not accepting it, I thought it was a mistake and lended credence to one of the issues"his critics" have to say. I never claimed to know what Jay wants.

Regarding Warner not being a coach, neither was Isaac Bruce yet most of us felt that was a great move on Martz’ part so the players could get an understanding from a players’ perspective. Martz may have designed the offense but Warner has actually executed it, so I would think that his perspective could be valuable to anyone who will actually have people running around trying to take his head off.

well I see your still passing out question marks like candy on Halloween.

what is that expression you kids use all the time?

“just asking”? or is it “I’m Just saying”?

Kurt played behind a very good O-line with probowl recievers with a HOF running back, I’m sure translates well into Jay’s current circumstances.

The thing is Jay can do everything he is taught and told to do, and still get sacked, throw INT’s and have everyone question his judgement and commitment.

give Lovie some love!

by ed_brown on Nov 18, 2010 12:49 PM CST up reply actions

I'm guessing I'm at least as old, if not older, than you are, but that aside...

If you have a QB, who throughout his career, has shown a tendency to make bad decisions like throwing into coverage when he doesn’t have to or lock onto his primary receiver, then he either needs to do something different to change those tendencies or he has to accept the fact that he’ll never be great. The decisions in several of those situations (like the redzone interception this past Sunday) had little to do with pass protection or the quality of the players around him.

I think Cutler still has the potential to be an elite QB but he needs to go the extra step to get there, in my opinion. This offer, if it’s legitimate, by Warner could be the trigger to get him to the next level.

Please, note that there wasn’t a single question in this entire response. I see that they seem to really bother you for some reason.

by BearFan611 on Nov 18, 2010 2:05 PM CST up reply actions

that was a bad decision but one of very few Jay made sunday.

That INT in the endzone looked a lot like the TD pass to Olsen and according to ProFootballFocus Cutler has a very high rating when throwing over the middle like that. They ran the same play right before the INT and the pass was deflected by an Defensive lineman. I think the mistake was coming right back to the same play the next down.

If you think Raquel Welch is a hot young babe then your maybe as old as I am.

I went to the theater to see 1,000,000 B.C. with my buddies in grade school if that tells you anything

I’m not anti-Cutler at all, I’m just saying that if Warner made the offer (which we don’t for sure anyway), I think he’d be well served picking his brain. It certainly couldn’t hurt.

Schlereth surprised me this morning...

On Mike and Mike he stated that he thought the Bears had improved a lot since the start of the season…he then went on to say with the collapse of the Vikings he thought the Packers will win the North and the Bears will probably be a Wild Card team.

That is the nicest thing I think I have ever heard him say about the Bears…I was so surprised I nearly drove off the road on my way to work…

But if this whole Vick’s-comeback-story-is-the-greatest-thing-ever stuff continues, I’m going to have to stop watching all these sports “authorities” for good. Which my wife will probably think is a good thing.

by oripunk3485 on Nov 18, 2010 4:17 PM CST up reply actions

I want to see a game

where the Bears punish the Phins into submission. Running the ball and stopping the run should be the gameplan for this contest. They’re stout versus the pass, so it’s imperative for them to pound the rock. With the way the defense and the special teams have played, it should be enough for a tough road win.

I don’t think Singletary was being sarcastic cause he wished him well.

Lastly, Jay cannot get frustrated! As much as Jay wants receivers to win these matchups, he has to be ready to move on in his reads.

This is always the key for Jay’s success when the primary WRs aren’t open. Just check-off damn it!

"He's a great candidate," Ryan said. "If I hadn't made him drop in coverage so often on running backs, he might be the all-time sack leader. They call it zone blitzing nowadays. We called it, 'Richard, pick him up.'" - Buddy Ryan on Richard Dent's HOF chances.
