Brian Urlacher passes Mike Singletary as Chicago Bears all-time leading tackler

Photo

Brian Urlacher needed four tackles yesterday to make history, and he came up with five.  Urlacher surpassed Mike Singletary as the all-time leading tackler for the Chicago Bears during last night's victory in Miami.

From John 'Moon' Mullin:

Star-divide

It’s official. The Bears confirmed to CSNChicago.com Friday that linebacker Brian Urlacher has passed Mike Singletary as the all-time leader in tackles with his performance in the 16-0 win over the Miami Dolphins. Urlacher needed 4 tackles to pass Samurai and was credited with 5 on the post-game stats sheet, with a few more usually turning up after coaches’ review of game tape.

A few months ago, there were plenty of people who were doubting Urlacher's ability, considering last year he ended up on the IR in the first game of the year... after all, he's no spring chicken anymore.  But Urlacher has proven all of his doubters wrong this season, playing with the intensity, speed, and fury that we all knew he still had.

On this day, we salute you, Mr. Urlacher.

Awesome

Congrats to Mr. Urlacher. That’s an amazing milestone.

anyone who would have thought urlacher was done

doesnt know how much he loves to play this game. he is playing like he did in 06. having a year off really helped him. hope we get the same results.

Bill Swerski: Alright, alright! Now, let me shift gears here for a moment. What is God's role in this? Obviously, he's rooting for Da Bears.

just saying.

He's the difference

between the Bears being a middle of the pack defense and a top 3-5 defense.

Super Bowl defense...and he's the leader...

On a completely different note, I would like to take this oppurtunity to apologize to Allie for some remarks I made…I will not elaborate on which ones…I was quite unaware of the gravity of the situation, and had someone pointed out my marked imbecility, I would have apologized immediately…once again, I am extremely sorry…damn I feel horrible

Urlacher

His SuperBowl win this season should cement him for the hall of fame.

Super Urlacher....

Super Bowl!

Here, here to his comeback revival tour.

"He's a great candidate," Ryan said. "If I hadn't made him drop in coverage so often on running backs, he might be the all-time sack leader. They call it zone blitzing nowadays. We called it, 'Richard, pick him up.'" - Buddy Ryan on Richard Dent's HOF chances.

Comeback Player of the Year

Some say Vick will win this honor, but I believe that coming back from doing time in the graybar hotel disqualifies him since I don’t think the league had that in mind when they created the award. I think Urlacher is certainly deserving of at least serious consideration for Comeback Player of the Year.

No way they give that award to a dog killer.

He’s served his debt, I don’t care if he was involved with dogs that were… well, bred to fight … but you can’t celebrate guys for coming out of prison. You’re not supposed to go to prison. He didn’t go into prison for his political beliefs …

definitely agree with you

that’s why i don’t think Vick should even be considered for PoY.

he also went from being a meh qb

to a real dual threat qb.

hate all you want, the level of play increase from what he was before his ‘hiatus’ to now is just phenomenal.

it’s not only ‘he just wins’, but he destroys.

Five foot three seems to thrive on his misery...

i'm tired of this argument

Vick had NOTHING in ATL. He had NO talent around him and made them a playoff team.

And now that he has arguabley the MOST talented YOUNG offense in the NFL around him he’s finally playing like he should have been.

Anyone could play the way Vick is playing if you give them enough weapons.

13. It's a magic number

by suckmyditka on Nov 20, 2010 6:03 PM CST up reply actions

Vick doesn't deserve the honor of playing in the NFL. Not for what he did.

I wouldn’t keep my job if I’d done the same and I’m just a public employee. But HE’S GOT GREAT TALENT!!! So what, he’s a thug, and a convicted criminal. No place in this league for any convicts. Bad deal all around.

If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.
I remain a pessimistically hopeful Bears fan.

THANK YOU

I was not defending vick whatsoever.

I hope it didn’t come off that way.

In fact i believe vick is mediocre, he is just benefiting from having SOOOOO much young talent around him.
He should be painting curbs somewhere not playing in the nfl

get a throwback urlacher as that is how he plays. this guy is awesome.

by stepeo on Nov 20, 2010 1:10 AM CST up reply actions

i hope he gets comeback player of the year

i know vick is killing it but i am seeing this award through bear-colored eyes

54 and 90 are the main 2 reasons why the defense is winning us games

ok lance too :) and obviously everyone else.

if Vick takes the PoY award it will be a travesty

awesome middle linebacker

i am glad to be alive and to have seen both of these bear players actually play.its like being alive and to see the greatest running back ever to take the field ( walter payton ).i have watched film of both butkus and sayers, but its not the same as actually watching them play, live and in the flesh. its a privaledge to actually say i was there and seen them perform in their prime. sort of like going to an muhammed ali fight.

tackles record

Congrats to #54, all the great defensive players we’ve had and to pass HOF on the list, simply awesome. I think we’re seeing how much the D missed him last year.

Brian Urlacher!!!

I have never downed the guy when almost everyone called him overrated and injury prone. He has to win a Superbowl in order for him to be a first ballet HOF. Peppers, Jay, Olin, and Briggs will eventually join him when their times come.

by Mandingo54 on Nov 20, 2010 2:46 PM CST reply actions

He's been a tackling machine, again this year

And you see how much better we are against the run, almost shutting down Adrian Peterson last weekend. He’s probably the biggest reason why our defense is # 1 in the league, this year.

Comeback player of the year will come down to Urlacher and Vick.
