Who Powered Through: Patriots at Bears Injury Report

As is the hopefully continuing trend this season, there's not much to the Bears Injury Report. Also per usual, Tom Brady is listed on the Patriots.

Both teams are in relatively good shape, and you can check out the table on the other side of the jump.

I sure hope Chester is doing OK

We’re going to need both him and Forte grinding out runs in the weather tomorrow.

True dat

I’d be fine with him as well, but Chester has looked fairly solid as of late.

The league should fine the Pats

for having Brady on the injury report (every week) when he’s clearly not injured. It must be a way for BB to help summon the football gods.

"He's a great candidate," Ryan said. "If I hadn't made him drop in coverage so often on running backs, he might be the all-time sack leader. They call it zone blitzing nowadays. We called it, 'Richard, pick him up.'" - Buddy Ryan on Richard Dent's HOF chances.

Brady has been on the injury report since 2001

one time he wasn’t on the report….his first game in 2008….yeah…

Wow, Tom Brady only had Limited Practice This Week?

Even if he isn’t 100% that’s still a big break for the Bears. Brandon Spikes has been suspended too, rather fortuitous. The football gods must be smiling again at us, let’s hope the Bears’ luck holds.

I hope that sometime during the first quiarter of our game...

…that Brady is on OUT (DNP) status. A couple of sacks should do the trick.

i'm old school

Butkus would lay him out if he could, if it were a different time and place. It’s football not soccer. It’s a man’s game. Legal shots only, of course, and they still have not been totally legislated out of the game. Kindness has got nothing to do with it. If a QB is ging to take advantage of a slide or in-the-grasp or all the other rules designed to protect a QB then fine, but if a defensive player gets his shot the so be it also.

Butkus was an animal.. and I'm saying that in a very positive way

I’m fine with wishing for sacks or big hits or to rattle the quarterback but this is football.. not Blood Bowl.

That said, I’m sure it’ll be a physical game, given the weather and teams involved. I somehow doubt there’ll be much hard hitting though given the footing and weather. Who knows though.

if it makes you feel better, look at it this way

Brady is so good as a player, that the only sure way to stop him is if he isn’t in the game. Consider it a compliment of the highest order.

Having said that, I will add that football is a contact sport and until they turn it into touch football…bells will be rung and players will get hurt. NOT saying it won’t make it any different or more palatable only more politically correct. Adding that intent is the crux of the matter here, and if a hit is legit and legal and a player gets hurt, so be it.

Lastly, I wish the Pats all the luck in the world – players and games included, just not when they play the Bears.

Now, relax and enjoy.

I agree

If we want to be considered one of the better teams in the league, then you have to beat the better teams. I want the Bears to beat the Patriots and Brady, they are considered the best in the league right now, and that’s who we have to beat, not the Pats and some back up QB.

Lighten up

It’s gamesmanship. Nobody wants to see him get hurt, we just know we have a better chance of winning with him not in the game.

Gamesmanship. You know, like putting players on the IR who aren’t actually injured. Patriot fans know what that means, don’t they?

Big Ike said it best, “[BB and the Pats] flirt with and sometimes cross the line between bending and breaking the rules.”

No one wants to see Brady “hurt.” But Pepperitits seems to be contracted pretty easily. You’ll need to bring protection.

by Skags on Dec 11, 2010 2:46 PM CST up reply actions

I know exactly what it means

Guess i’m more used to Jets and Colts fans who literally mean it. I guess I’ll take it differently this time. I’d gripe just as much if it were a Pats fan asking for injuries for the Bears too (which i don’t think has happened.. yet).

The IR isn’t gamesmanship. That’s for bookies and gamblers and all teams fudge a little. Hoodie does it as a protest and because maybe Brady’s shoulder really has been hurting for like 8 years.

Also, trying to imply cheating as a defense for some unknown slight is not exactly a good way to make amends or start a valid discussion. Makes you sound like a Colts or Jets fan.. which no one wants to be. :P

Oh.. and using an injury reference and playing it off. Quaint. We’ll see what happens I suppose.

by satsunada on Dec 11, 2010 3:31 PM CST up reply actions

Dont believe the hype

If Cutler goes out in the first quarter half a million Pats fans will be dancing a jig. This is football, its about knocking the teeth out of the other guy. Their just lucky Ditka and Butkus arent suiting up or it would be 146-10.

White Sox fans need not apply.

There is a difference between being knocked out of a ball game

and wishing someone maimed, nobody wants anyone permanently injured for sure. But sending the other guy to the bench for a few series if not the whole game is totally in the spirit of the nfl.

Ya know, that's not something I would not expect to hear from fans of a team

whose current quarterback has a history of suffering concussions. Whose premier defensive player of all time sued the team for forcing him to stay on the field despite his injuries. Whose Super Bowl winning quarterback lost all his swagger to niggling injuries and hard hits over a very short time. Who had a player remove himself from a game later to find out he had embryonal cell carcinoma.

I’d figure you guys would take injuries more seriously and things that take people out of games even moreso.

There aren’t many reasons to leave games and none of them are good but with the history the bears have, wishing for anything that takes a guy off the field seems a bit weird.

I know I’m taking this awfully seriously but I have my reasons. I had a friend of mine in middle school who was tackled pretty hard in a football practice and thought he had bruised ribs. We joked that it was a solid hit and he should be fine with a few days rest. Come to find out, the tackler hit him in the gut and missed his ribs.. but nailed a softball sized tumor that was quietly sitting in his abdomen. He recovered fine (they caught it early) and the tackle likely saved his life but it taught me not to play around with injuries, no matter how innocuous.

My brother had his femur snapped in a grammer school pickup game

and he spent the next 6 months is a near body cast so clearly no one wishes that on their opponent.
BTW its raining something fierce right now in Chitown USA so look for the field to be a mess tomorrow. Tell your Pats to bring their long cleats, they will be needed.

by Bears-Cubs Bulls on Dec 11, 2010 6:33 PM CST up reply actions

Why did you tell them that...

I was hoping they’d be like the Eagles and forget the long cleats at home, then at half time, they’d have to send someone to a local Dicks sporting goods to buy some, but the store would be closed to to the game being on…

And that was in Buffalo, wasnt that were that one player was nearly paralysed recently? I am for smashmouth football but I truly didnt think anyone cheered when the cart was needed to take a man off the field, thats just plain mean.

Actually that was in Foxboro

Favre was playing with his 1950’s helmet and forgot the chin strap. Result = chin laceration when you get incidentally hit in the upper shoulder area during a sack.

Favre has a great streak and all but his ego.. ugh. If he toned it down ever so slightly, he might be tolerable but seriously.. he needs to hang it up.

So is it possible to believe the Bears can win...

and also believe they won’t at the same time? I do think this will be a great game. I see an epic disaster of weather and horrific “unforced” errors all over this game. I expect to hear Steve Sabol narrating this as an NFL films “classic” game in years to come. I do think the Bears will show up, play well, and keep this as a close game no matter what the great Tom Brady does. I think the Bears have a distinct advantage because they are playing on a field they know better than anyone. I think the Pats are due for a loss or a let-down or whatever you call it. I am starting to believe the Bears have a bit of pluck and underdog nasty in them this season. Honestly, i think this is the Bears game to lose more than it is the Pats game to win. My head says the Pats win a close game, 24-21 on a last second field goal. My heart says Bears win 31-28 on a final TD drive leaving only seconds on the clock. If it starts snowing at any point, the Bears will win. Either way, I do believe this Bears team is headed to the playoffs, so even a close loss is OK in my mind. The next three games are wins, IMO, so this may not be the decisive game in this season. Bears play disciplined and smart = Bears win!

I'd prefer not to have Lovie return...Unless we win the SB baby!!!!
