I know everyone is down in the dumps after the thrashing we took yesterday to a red hot Patriots team, but I think we need to put things in perspective a bit. We now are 9 - 4 and sit atop the NFC North standings. We are a victory and one Packer loss from clinching the NFC North crown. Let's take a trip back to the beginning of the year to remember what our thoughts were coming into it..
Bears start 2 new coordinators, one Michael Martz and Rod Marinelli. We all were a bit dissapointed in both of these hires thinking they were all that was left after everyone else rebuffed us. We had question marks talent wise in many areas - CB, safety, Young wr's and an especially shaky Oline which was reshuffled. QB in his 2nd system in 2 years. Alot of what ifs and things had to take time to gel and who knew how long it would take. The predictions on this site ranged from 5-11 to 9-7 (not too many had us with 10 wins). Well lo and behold if we are not sitting at 9 - 4 and a game away from heading to the playoffs. Our defense has far outpassed any expectations we may have had coming into the year. Peppers, Urlacher, Briggs have had tremendous years as up and comers Izzy and Melton/Toeina. Our secondary is still a work in progress but Tim Jennings has stepped up and been decent as well as Daniel Manning maybe finally starting to get it?? In my opinion it has been a great season to date and I look forward to the playoffs. Do we have issues or holes to fill the next year or so? Of course, but what team outside of the New England Patriots does not. Everyone has weaknesses and we have succeeded where alot of them did not. Just think we could be the Vikings or the one game away from elimination Packers who will be home watching football after New Years. I say we celebrate a great ride and enjoy the rest of the way. Bear Down!
