it would be an epic rematch that the NFL would cherish. Pats looking for revenge for SBXX and Bears looking to avenge an asswhoopin’ from earlier in the season. The only team in the NFC that is much of a threat is NO, so the Bears making the SB is very plausible.

it’s parity, they’ve beaten us 2x when arguably we could/should have won those games. And we’re clearly built to be in a track race. we have a great chance to beat them, and I think we match up favorably against them.

NFC goes through every playoff team except fromt the West
Atl, NO, NYG, PHI are all going to be tough in the playoffs. We might have already beaten the Eagles but, it’s super hard to beat a good team twice in the same year—like a few years ago we beat Carolina in the regular season and lost to them in the playoffs. Just saying—no gimmies to get to the Superbowl.

BTW
did the vikings logo and what not, really have to be placed on that field? would the players have gotten confused or something? Did the Lions field crew have a lot of extra paint that needed used?
And extra purple paint at that?

by BearNecessities on Dec 14, 2010 8:50 AM CST up reply actions
It was done as a courtesy
by the Lions to help make the Vikings feel as at home as possible.
Field crews started scraping it immediately after the Packers/Lions game, to make sure to have the whole thing turned around in 27 hours.
It was a classy move by the Lions organization, and I would hope that the same would be extended to the Bears should the need ever arise.

actually before the game
they were talking about how the NFL wanted the NFL shield on the field because they viewed it as an NFL event……wilf (vikings owner) was irate and wanted the vikings logo on the field because it was a vikings home game…..In the end the NFL backed off and they had to put the vikings logo on hours before the game….Is why the fresh paint was sort of around it…..Players were complaining that they were getting covered in paint if they fell on or near the logo…..

With regards to the paint—they didn’t have purple, so they had to get a batch mixed up special. They indeed started scrubbing the field right away, but didn’t have the paint until 1:30 yesterday afternoon.

David Haugh makes a rational argument...
about the Bears current reality. I agree with his article by and large and it will be interesting to see how far the Bears progress in the playoffs; yes, they are going to the playoffs, no question (honestly, if they miss the playoffs, JA/Lovie have got to be fired). If Lovie can turn this team around and he and the FO add enough talent in the offseason to improve the O and D-lines and a few other positions, I am happy to see at least Lovie stay. I do find it difficult to come up with any reason to bring JA back for another year. What concerns me is that 2 years from now, we will have the same Lovie apologists telling us all how he’s done a great job just getting his team to compete for the playoffs after more mediocrity. IMO, the Bears have changed almost every part of the equation but Lovie and sooner or later he has to bring a positive answer or they need a new equation.
I'd prefer not to have Lovie return...Unless we win the SB baby!!!!

seize every opportunity to run down Lovie Smith. By definition that is a Cabal. Especially you who wants to throw out this years results to support your susposedly rational demands. I’ve been a devoted Bears fan for over 50 years I don’t need a Bears History lesson from the likes of you.

It's only a cabal if there's collusion, bu there's no evidence of anything more than similar opinion
Of course they’d also have to be intriguing to actually get Lovie fired and while WCG has shown a little pull in getting Jensen and Moon to do some Q & A’s I don’t think we’re to the point where 7 or 8 posters can force out an NFL coach.

there doesn't have to be collusion, just a group of people working together for a common cause
collusion being some sort of formal agreement. they have no hope of exerting power over the Bears Management they just want to bring people around to their way of thinking. Their are people who can be swayed by telling them the same thing over and over and over and over. Why would someone pay more for a can of pea’s when they can get the same thing for less? Because they have been lead to believe the more expensive peas are somehow better. These people don’t like Lovie and have convinced themselves that when the Bears lose it’s Lovie’s fault and when the Bears win it is in spite of Lovie’s bad coaching and that’s it. They want you to believe the same thing. In 50+ years I can remember the only truly great coach the Bears ever had and that was George Halas, its a pity that his son died relatively young and his heirs pushed out by the McCaskeys. It was Halas that brought in Finks,Ryan and Ditka who went on to win and the McCaskeys who have allowed the team to float down the river of mediocrity
all the while milking the cash cow. Lovie is not a bad coach he is not a really great coach either but he is better than average and will have no trouble getting a job when he leaves the Bears. One thing I do agree with these guys about is I would like to see the Bears become a great team again I just don’t believe the answer is as simple as foreing Lovie.

Morrissey and Haugh couldn't be further apart
And their columns demonstrate why I like and respect Haugh’s opinion and I like his writing and why I think Morrissey is an idiot (it may seem counterproductive for me to read a writer I don’t like but I think it’s important to read dissenting opinions).
Morrissey kept using we in one of his articles, “we thought we knew the Bears,” “some of us are doubting,” No, Rick, it’s just you doubting. Don’t drag all us fans, as if you speak for us.
Haugh on the other hand, in my opinion is usually a voice of reason and can get into writing how a fan does/should feel. This season was never about Super Bowl titles, just making the playoffs is a success and we don’t have to like JA and Lovie even if that happens. The Bears will still make the playoffs and that is enough for this season.

but I believe that is the wrong approach, every season in Chicago should be viewed as making the playoffs is the minimum acceptable point. Superbowl or bust, much like Indy/Pit/NE and almost anyone else who doesnt play in the NFC West.
to be one of the most popular franchises/oldest/most storied…and yet be mired in constant mediocrity is unacceptable, yet common practice here….sad face
