Sunday Morning Bloody Mary: Week 15 Chicago Bears Den

Bear_s-den2_medium_medium_medium

Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent's fate. - Sun Tzu

Bears gearing up to face Vikings runner - I'll give you a hint--it's not Toby Gerhart.

No surprises in store for Chicago Bears against Minnesota Vikings - Actually, it's like one big episode of punk'd.

Chicago Bears' Brian Urlacher has turned back the clock - When this baby gets up to 88 miles per hour, you're going to see some serious middle linebacking.

Coach Frazier’s hire calling - Get it? Hire? Like higher? But because he wants a job?

Mullin: 1934 'Sneakers Game' repeat? - A long time ago, the Giants snuck out at the half and borrowed shoes from someone else and won. So let's hope that doesn't happen again.

Bears to face another third-stringer at QB - Next week, they face Mark Sanchez, so, soon to be four, I guess.

Frank here was staring at a white picket fence. Now he's single, broke, and has second degree burns all over his body. And I see a spark in his eye that I haven't seen in fifteen years. All because he followed WCG on Twitter.

Star-divide

Brian Urlacher recalls frustration of 2009 - I might not ask him about this, because I would hate it if he punched me because I made him upset. (I would ask--probably on a conference call.)

Minnesota Vikings' Bryant McKinnie ready for Bears' Julius Peppers - "Uh, last time, I was hurt or whatever, so, like, it doesn't count."

Bears' Webb on learning curve - Football is tough.

Ice Bowl II? Vikings vs. Bears in rare outdoor home game - I didn't do any research, but I'm going to go ahead and say that this is officially the first link to the Christian Science Monitor we've ever had.

DITKA CORNER

Video: Mike Ditka talks Bears-Vikings - The Man speaks.

Ditka says character is key to coaching - The Man holds conversation that is recounted in a written form.

AROUND THE NFL

Charles Woodson returns to scene of ‘Tuck Rule’ game - The Packers probably won't win this game.

Eagles Fight For Respect In Key Battle - Respect, and, well, playoffs.

After 2 debacles, Jets face tough fight vs. Steelers - Next week's headline: After 3 debacles, Jets fighting to hold playoff spot with battle against Bears.

Run-down Colts need to find fire - OMG. THE HORSES ARE ON FIRE!

Dan Kolko - Ravens on MASNsports.com - Ravens/Saints preview.

GENERALLY SAD SPORTS NEWS

Chicago Cubs: Chicago Cubs great Phil Cavarretta dies at 94 - Last man living who played against the Babe passes away.

from above: ‘A long time ago, the Giants snuck out at the half and borrowed shoes from someone else and one’

And they ‘won’ too, I think.

I'm not so mean. I wouldn't ever go out to hurt anybody deliberately - unless it was, you know, important, like a league game or something. - Dick Butkus

I'm diggin' that Sun Tzu quote up there!

With regards to Sun Tzu

I thought it sort of fits Lovie’s coaching style:

Subtle to the point of formlessness—there’s not a lot of structure there.

Mysterious to the point of soundlessness—dude doesn’t talk.

unfortunately for lovie

…he doesn’t have the luxury of generations to test the efficacy of his subtleties. I prefer George Allen’, “The future is now.”

Mike Ditka begs to differ

" He is who he is. He’s not going to rant and rave; he’s not going to go crazy, like I did. But he’s got control, and he’s got their respect. They’re going in the right direction."

Is it realistic to expect this team to be 13-0 all blow outs? The great thing about sports is watching your team overcome its short comings and win. That is what the Bears are doing this year. Lovie Smith is a big reason they are having success.

I respect him for not throwing his players under the bus in front of the largely negative media. I don’t blame him to saying as little as possible to those guys. The media tells us that this is not a good team and that would lead us to believe Lovie is not a good coach. Bill Cowher says the Bears will not win another game this year. 2 out of 3 commentators on NFL Playbook think the Vikes will beat the Bears with a 3rd string QB.

Last year is gone, long gone, I appreciate the effort this years team has made under Lovie’s direction.

Amen

Everyone on this team are playing for their brothers, and their coach. The only opinions that matter to players on any level are the ones they make to one another either on that field or in their lockeroom

Do you think Lovie diserves an extension this year beyond the end of his contract next year?

I believe he is coaching this year for his job next year. And I believe that is ALL that he can earn from this year. The opportunity to play out his current contract. The Bears should NOT extend him after this season. All they should do is allow him to play out his current contract. Create a good team next year, make the playoffs, and at least win a freaking game there, and then we’ll talk about extensions.

I can understand Urlacher's frustration from 2009

Nobody of his caliber would ever want to miss a game, let alone a season. His play this year has really silenced his critics as well as restoring hope with the fans. If he doesn’t win Comeback Player of the Year then those are grounds for war!!!

i can make a case for E.J. Henderson

And while I’d say Urlacher has had a better season, I believe E.J. had a harder road to come back.

The Minnesota Vikings: Where we're so desperate to win a Super Bowl, we'll even sign washed-up Packers.

Eh that might be true

But Im going to go with Urlacher, he was on what many people thought his downside of his career and many people thought he should retire. Instead he has came out having perhaps his best season since 2006, the year (coincedintally) we went to the super bowl.
