2 stats I found interesting while bored.
Cutler is only 24 rushing yards behind Chester Taylor. I hope Chester can get going soon.
Johnny Knox 18.5 YPC is pretty damn good. Just by a quick look, only Brandon Lloyd, Mike Wallace and DeSean Jackson have 35+ catches and have a better YPC average. The type of WR we’ve needed for a long time, even if he is a little raw still.
+1 regarding Knox
In today’s Daily Herald, Bob LeGere had a more extensive article on Knox’s development as a WR and Cutler made a very good point about him.
He’s getting better and better at learning the offense. He’s still a young player in the league, so to have to learn two different offenses quickly is tough.
Earlier in the season a lot of people were getting down on Knox about being in the wrong place but we tend to forget how raw he is. He could end up as one of the best mid round picks the Bears have ever made.
Hmmm
We destroyed the Bears in the Jay Cutler trade. Destroyed them. Take away their defense and Jay Cutler would be leading a terrible football team.

the copied text that is. the peanut gallery at mhr seems to be besides themselves in grief, denial, bitter betsy behavior and well overall the phrase no joy in mudville pretty much sums it up. kind of amusing really.

Yes
from Monday…..Though it was from another bronco forum…….From what I can gather its the herschel walker trade and the Bears are the vikings…..But eh they were loving it up till this week……But they are just one multi pick game from being up again I guess…..

take away their defense
haha, such an arbitrary statement. “Take away 11 of their best players, and they suck” is basically what I’m reading there.
Exactly...
that’s like referring to Angelina Jolie and saying “yeah, but take away her gorgeous face, great body, and terrific legs and what have you got?”
The answer would be “my wife”………
Thank God she doesn’t know my screen name!
I will commence calling all ladies on the planet now.

I am not sure about Knox...
I think he has great potential and he is definitely racking up some serious yards this season. I do think he will get better and he does add a scoring dimension to the offense. I guess my trepidation is that he’s kinda too much like another Hester. Both guys can be electric and break off huge plays. It’s not that I would like to get rid of Knox or Hester, but maybe get a big, elite primary WR (a la Fitz, Burress, Jennings, VJackson etc.) to pair up with Bennett and have Knox and Hester be the tandem of explosiveness. I guess it’s not about Knox’s quality as a WR, but more about his use in the offense. I think this offense would be scary good with a few O-ilne improvements and one more elite WR.
I'd prefer not to have Lovie return...Unless we win the SB baby!!!!

Vertical
Knox and Hester are fine SHORT receivers — they may be excellent some day.
But our QB loves to throw high and hard. In his heart, Jay wants a tall guy with wheels who can catch. He’d kill for Hakeem Nicks. We can win with the current group, but it sure would make life easier on everyone if we could get a really good TALL receiver.
Personally I think DA could be that guy, but for whatever reason he is not on the field.
A counter point
to the tall WR argument is to look at the WR’s that were outstanding successes in the Martzfense. The greatest show on turf 99 Rams had Tory Holt and Issac Bruce. Niether were overly tall but fit more of the Knox mold; lightning fast with great hands. I’ll take an average height receiver with speed and excellent ball skills any day. 3 yards of separation beats 3 inchs of height or vertical leap in my book.
Agree in general
With the right QB, what you say makes sense.
But Jay’s throws have always tended to sail upward. He throws it high and fast. That’s why he likes Olson — he can get those throws. That’s why he liked Brandon Marshall (6’4’’) in Denver.
If he can lower his ball trajectory and hit the little dudes in stride, it will be awesome.
I am with you on the height thing...
it is not necessarily the only way to have success as a WR. However, Knox and Hester both need to be better at getting that separation and catching the ball before their speed does them any good. I may be off on this, but it seems that Knox has trouble getting open off the line and has most of his success when Jay is out of the pocket and the structured routes break down. A taller WR probably doesn’t need a much separation to be able to make a catch. I too think DA is a better fit for the Tory Holt role in this offense. Not because he’s that much more like Holt (or any better of a WR than Knox), but that his height helps him more than Knox’s speed helps Knox. I’d love to see DA (or another tall/fast/big WR) get a few looks in that position to be able to make that comparison. I don’t think that will happen.
I'd prefer not to have Lovie return...Unless we win the SB baby!!!!

Chester will go
when the o-line starts opening a damn hole for him to run through. Every time his number is called he’s usually shut down by a defender in the Bear’s backfield.
"Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." - Mark Twain
Well, every time
he checks into the game, they try to run him. Forte is in on snaps that don’t involve runs, but when they throw Chester Taylor in, I think opposing Ds are like, ok…run play.
Random thoughts
Glad to see Peppers say that…..
Remember when grossman was Offensive Player of the Month….Good times….BTW Cutler QB rating from Sun was good for 5th best in Bears history behind: Vince Evans, Rudy Bukich, rex grossman, and Jim McMahon……
Sadly would have to agree with that top 10 failed dynasties…..Should have won more than 1 Super Bowl IMO…..2 Chicago teams on that list Hmmmm……
I can not recall any “young QB” (drafted wise) that has thought highly of martz…..Might be he likes vet type QBs that have been in the NFL awhile…..Might explain his seeming disdain for Hanie…..
Well to me burelson was just saying that they expect to win so cant get to much hype for that…..
Heard some guy claim to work on the resodding team on the score say that the under turf does not attach itself to the grass and thats why the field gets so bad……So ya…..
Hmm to me a #1 WR is the go to guy….Right now it seems like they need a TD or a first down Cutler looks more to or plays are called for Bennett or Olsen…..But eh Knox is playing well……Even if he gets yelled at by Cutler for not coming back to the ball…..

So we have a WR who probably will haul in 1,000 yds
and he’s still not a #1?

I am
dont yell at me ……I just think that Bennett and Olsen seem to be the go to guys when they need clutch plays…..Knox and Hester for the big plays……Again IMO…..Course they threw Manu a big pass for a first down on Sun…..Maybe he can be clutch to….I dunno…Its early…..

not yelling at you
I wasn’t directing that at anyone specific, I’ve just read a lot this season about needing a #1 WR, and last year there was a lot of debate
(Braylon Edwards, Holmes, Plax, Matt “Mike” Jones, Boldin etc.) and it looks like we have a homegrown one in the making, and now the post about Fitz…. it just seems like no one is ever gonna be happy, and we certainly have a worse need at OL, cuz cleary Cutler wouldn’t be able to get the pass off to any one of these excellent WR if he’s still getting sacked as the ball snaps.
just like Dline makes the DBs better, so too, the Oline makes the QB/WR better

This is interesting...
I came up with a playoff scenario that has 3 different 10 win teams missing (Slack, Eagles, KC), while a 7-9 team makes it. And the NFC is a conference of Stars and Scrubs this year. I got 7 teams with 10 wins, and nobody else having an even record.
This is gonna be weird…
My playoff teams…
NFC:
1 Atlanta 13-3
2 Giants 11-5
3 Bears 11-5
4 Chickens 7-9
5 Aints 11-5
6 Tampa 11-5
AFC:
1 Pats 13-3
2 Ravens 13-3
3 Boltz 10-6
4 Colts 10-6
5 Pitt 12-4
6 Jets 12-4
Weird beyond weird. And it all makes sense with the picks that I made…
Agreed.
Packers before Tampa.
And a meaningful Week 17 game.
Five foot three seems to thrive on his misery...

No way
Tampa.
Tampa is so overrated.
They are a young team that is improving, however; they have benefitted from a prety easy schedule and have lost games against playoff caliber teams.
I don’t see them making it. And i’ll be damned if 3 NFC south teams get into the playoffs
13. It's a magic number
I tried to get them in...
but I just don’t see them winning the final game in Seattle with the playoffs on the line. Plus, them winning that game would ruin the NFL-destroying 7-win team making the playoffs.
I loved the look at the Cover 2 from a safetys perspective
