2010 Pro Bowl Roster Announcement - Open Thread

It's that time of year again folks. The tree is turning yellow, a few more notches have been added to the belt, and we all care about the Pro Bowl picks for a few moments before remembering that half the players decline the invitation for various reasons and if your team is as good as you wish they were they will be playing in a more important game down in Texas instead.

This year the Pro Bowl will be taking center stage even less than usual due to the announcement falling on the same day as the first Tuesday game since 1946. Let us give thanks for the opportunity to repost the infamously good picture of Lance Briggs at the Pro Bowl and bask in the waning glow of these selections in this live updated open thread until the actually relevant football starts in about an hour.

Ok I'll be first to say it...

If Desean Jackson is going to a ProBowl…Why isn’t Johnny Knox? Check their numbers. They are eerily similar.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

Desean Jackson

Most overrated WR in the league.

Hell I'll be honest

I didn’t even know Knox’s numbers were that good. If Desean Jackson is a #1 then we have a #1 too.

Hey Rose. I don't see the appeal!

No Corey Graham

What hogwash.

Bears. Bulls. White Sox.

Complete lack of respect for Johnny Knox is obvious...

Maurkice Pouncey makes me want the the team to draft Maurice Pouncey even more.

Hell Yeah!!!

Y not knox :

WR 10 Jackson, DeSean ACT REC 45 YDS 1,024 AVG 22.8 TDS 6 PHI

WR 13 Knox, Johnny ACT REC 51 YDS 960 AVG 18.8 TDS 5 CHI

I beleive Knox should be in there. Not reall sold on Jackson soo Irigant(sorry if i misspelled it)

by chiguy8506 on Dec 28, 2010 6:44 PM CST up reply actions

What's cool to think about is...

The fact Jackson is a second round pick and Knox is a fifth. The WR opposite of Jackson is a first round pick in Maclin who has 64 rec, 890 yards and 10 TD’s. A benefit Knox doesn’t have.

Pro Bowl=Popularity contest.

It has less to do with actual skill than name recognition.

The NFL is a 3 part vote

fans, coaches, players…

It’s not as bad as other sports All Star selection processes

If you go in the bathroom, turn off the lights, and say "Da Coach" 5 times while facing the mirror... Ditka will appear and slap the wussy right out of you.

Any time fans votes count heavily toward any post season award

the results are heavily skewed toward the “big names”. Yes, it’s better than some other sports but instead of fans, how about sports writers? I think then we’d see who the actual “all-stars” are.

If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.

if the fans vote a joke in as the starter

the other 2/3 will cancel out the vote… But even with the coaches and players vote the popular guy gets picked a lot as well

Another quick notice...

How in the world does Chris Johnson not make it in the AFC?

Arrian Foster

Guns dont kill people. Brian Urlacher kills people.

by Bear Lovin 21 on Dec 28, 2010 10:56 PM CST up reply actions

I think Arian Foster is overrated a bit...

Just like LT was a bit, good blocking makes a good back look great, and a great back look superhuman and he has one of the best blocking FB in the league.

However, I don’t take issue with Charles or Foster, but MJD. CJ has slightly more yards on less carries, and like 3 or 4 more TDs and is on essentially a more one dimensional offense.

But then I realised I deserved a face palm of my own for recognizing it in the first place.

According to the numbers Jackson was better (If only slightly) then Knox and of the the three other receivers although i love Knox i wouldn’t trade him for any of them… Maybe some other receiver deserves to be there instead of Jackson but according to the numbers Knox was not more deserving.

by frankyj93 on Dec 28, 2010 6:50 PM CST reply actions

The hype machine for Jackson is ridiculous

If you woke up from a coma last this past week you would swear that Jackson wason the same level as some guy named Devin Hester. What a joke.

Only 2 Packers and no Vikings

at the beginning of the season you’d of thought each team would get 1/2 dozen or so….

How the Hell is Brees ahead of Cutler?

He threw what 6 more INTs than him? Meh its a popularity contest.

Matt Ryan does not belong in the Pro Bowl

Brees throws for almost 300 yards a game and has 32 TDs… I’m ok with the Brees selection

pro bowl

Definitely think Corey Graham should’ve been selected, and Cutler over Ryan,he just didn’t impress me in the MNF game this week. It’s great these guys are rewarded for a good season, but I’d rather our team plays in the more important game in Dallas this year.

by walterfan34 on Dec 29, 2010 2:17 PM CST reply actions

hmmm; brees and ryan

anyone who watched saints v falcons probably wouldn’t have voted for either.

is the pro bowl highlight the Special Teams? Urlacher, Peppers, Willis vs Harrison, Reed etc….
