The Bears Den: Friday - December 3rd, 2010 Edition
RIP, Ron Santo. Our thoughts and well wishes are with the Santo Family.
Former Chicago Cubs player Ron Santo dead at 70.
Bears focus on task at hand, but also see big picture - They're in it to win it.
Say it with them, Bears fans: Super. Bowl. - I'd like to say it. Give me 3 more good games.
Ditka Sweater Vest - for staying warm when you're following WCG on twitter.
Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith has put together his best staff of assistant coaches - They seem to be doing well.
Bears-Lions? Lock me up - Dan McNeil talks about gambling for a while.
Bears are good in open field - See, it works on two levels. They're good at pursuit in the open field, and the NFC is an open field.
Briggs won't fall for trap play vs. Lions - Hopefully he won't release the tight end too early forcing the safety to move inside and leave Johnson open for a TD in the end zone.
No stat geek, Toeaina gets job done - I like this guy's attitude.
Bears don't want to join 'upset victims' list - Losing to the Lions would be, no offense to Lion's fans, sort of embarassing.
Confidence is contagious for Bears - Don't get them any penicillin!
Cover 2 boring but effective for Bears - "If it ain't broke..."

You will be missed.. The “Ditka” of the cubbie organization.

He will be missed
“His annual Ron Santo Walk to Cure Diabetes has raised more than $40 million alone since its inception 1979, though Santo was constantly raising more through golf outings, appearances, donated royalties and appearances.” – Chicago Sun-Times
For Ron Santo there was more to life than baseball, but baseball was the vehicle for him to accomplish so much for others. Ron was the definition of a great man.
ps. the HOF can stick it

I've had a lump in my throat all morning.
One of the things that gets me through the work day in the summer is afternoon Cubs baseball. My mom is a CPA, and as someone who just graduated college a couple years ago I’m studying to be one, so we would always be listening to the game together at work. It was a bonding experience. It felt oftentimes like Ron was in the office with us; he sure as hell couldn’t tell us what was going on, but it was like watching the game with a baseball-loving uncle who’d celebrate every good play and every bad play stabbed him to the core.
Sorry for the rambling; this just kinda hurts.
RIP 10.

Sad to hear about Ron
When I was a kid in Little League in Lombard, I ALWAYS wore #10. He was my hero growing up.
Hard nosed, giving all he had to the game – Maybe not the most gifted 3rd Baseman in history, but he was the best to me.
If you don't ask, you don't get. So get on with it already.

When you take a stance like McNeil took
earlier this season, you look like a total douche, every step along the way when it goes the opposite of what you said or thought. Glad to see everything working against the flip flopper. I used to kind of enjoy his show, but lately I realize he is a total know-it-all bragger, not the common man he portrays himself as.

McNeil = arrogant assclown

From the Washington Post:
Upset alert? The Bears have the league’s worst Offensive DVOA (minus-33.4%) on the road… Cutler has experienced a backslide in protection over the last month as well – from one, to two, to three, to four sacks in the last four games. Not a good time for the Bears’ porous line to meet up with Lions super-tackle Ndamukong Suh.
Cutler has also experienced an uptick in ability of defensive lines/pass rushers faced.
Bills, 20 sacks.
Vikings, 21 sacks.
Dolphins, 27 sacks.
Eagles, 32 sacks.
Lions are at 27, so Jay might be on his back two or three times this week. But what is insinuated as the line playing worse looks to me like it could just be better pass rushing being faced.

That and...
is anyone really concerned about the rest of the Lions team (maybe Megatron). The Lions will be hard pressed to score more than 6-7 points and the Bears D will probably score more than that on its own. So maybe the Bears O can run 100% of the time and just chew up the clock and give the D some time to rest after all that scoring!
I'd prefer not to have Lovie return...Unless we win the SB baby!!!!

RIP Ron
A great, man, a great announcer. You will be missed by Cubs fans and baseball fans alike.
Moving on, I am wearing my Ditka sweater vest today.
Also, Pompei makes a good point, this Bears staff is loaded! This season has made me once again believe in Lovie Smith as a coach and he has put together a hell of a coaching staff. The best part, I think anyway, is that I think this staff can remain mostly intact for next year. I don’t see Marinelli ever getting another head coaching offer, I think teams would want to see more than one good year out of Martz before making him another head guy and I don’t think Tice is a hot candidate either. I would absolutely LOVE to see what Martz can do in year two and the progression Tice could make with the line (especially if we drafted some more talent). I think this team is in a great position moving toward the future.
"I feel like the pieces are in place. But we have to execute...It's about execution. You have to execute. You have to have a scheme that facilitates the strengths of your players. If it doesn't, then it's a bad scheme. It's that simple. So we feel real good about the parts in place on offense."
"We feel very good about this football team. We felt very good about our football teams in the past and it's no different. You've got to go out there and you've got to do it."

I still think your brother says it best:
From a Sox fan, RIP Ron Santo. Good people don’t belong to one side of town or the other; they belong to the great city of Chicago.
I said this on the other post, but realized later than more people were commenting about it on here. Sue me. :]

Chet the jet fighting K Bell??
Bears running back Chester Taylor doesn’t seem to feel at home with a new team until he gets in a fight.
In Baltimore, he reportedly threw a chair at tackle Orlando Brown. In Minnesota, a fight with defensive end Erasumus James ended with tackle Bryant McKinnie getting stitches for getting in the mix.
Taylor dusted off his gloves at Bears practice Thursday for a fight with fellow running back Kahlil Bell, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. Practice fights are not huge deal, although Biggs indicates "something had been brewing" between the two guys for a while.

I wasn't aware Chester had that history
Doesn’t really matter to me, as long as he can take that fight to his play and start breaking a few tackles.
