Bears are favored, but Lions look to play spoiler.

At first glance, the Chicago Bears would seem to be the overwhelming favorite to beat the Lions this Sunday.  Upon second and third glances, nothing really changes about that.  Needless to say, we all know that on any given Sunday...

But really, how many people really believe the Lions pull off an upset Sunday?  Vote now.

Just put this elsewhere,

But I’m thinking we win big.

We start strong, and we get a defensive TD. Score a bunch of points on offense, hold them to under 100 total offensive yards in the first half.

At Halftime:
Bears 31 – Lions 3

Have a couple nice drives, one with a TD, and one with a FG. Other than that, it’s mostly just the offense running the clock out. The defense goes into complete "not to lose" mode, and Stanton pads his stats to appear as if he had an "ok" game. They garner up a TD and a FG late.

At End of Regulation:
Bears 41 – Lions 10

Ditkavsworld says, "never do math in public"

And he’s right. I’m gonna stick with 41-10, but take away the first quarter field goal. Maybe Peppers or Izzy blocked it. ;)

Yes I do say that, mostly because I'm bad at Math.

I think you learned your lesson. Oh and the Bears pitch another shut out.

I think if we get out to a lead they will roll over

with out either of their top 2 QB’s, Bosch out, Best banged up. If step on em early it should demoralize them.

"We were freaking robbed!! Our defense totally dominated all day! What? we gave up nearly 500 yards on defense? Yeah but we stopped them on the 1 yrd line! Our D is awesome!!"

I voted 12-19.

But I think it could be 20+. The first meeting would have been 20+ if it had not been for a few turnovers by the Bears. They got capitalized on our mistakes and got lucky with 2 goals TD runs. This time around our offense is clicking and the defense is the best in the league.

I wouldn’t be surprised if right out of the gate Jay pick on Spievey, just like Brady did.

Not looking good

Looking at the Lions as they went through their pre-practice routine today, they truly looked like a 2-9 team. That sounds odd, I know, but there was a time, just a few weeks ago, where they looked like a team on the come.

Now, they look like a team that can’t wait to get this thing over with.

What does the Pick of Destiny have to do with football?

Jake is right, we did have a band powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline.

by Chauncey Baker on Dec 3, 2010 6:02 PM CST up reply actions

Everything.

The Lions tried to stop the Metal Bears.
Bwahahahaha! They failed, as they were thrown to the ground.

by Steven Schweickert on Dec 3, 2010 6:33 PM CST up reply actions

I was just asking a question, I don't know why you struck out Metal and replaced it with Bears

I guess I’m old and don’t understand the intertubes.

What this is…you know what this is? It’s a chronicle, of an arise to POWER!

Cutlass Supreme!

Sunday Supreme! (My prediction)

Because I'm trying to take the Tenacious D reference and make it Bears relevant?

I dunno. I mean, if grunge couldn’t stop the metal, I don’t think the Lions have any chance. And that’s saying something.

Dude, I kinda feel like we're JB and Rage Cage in the diner right now.

I don’t want some creepy guy and hot girls let us lose our focus at this point. We’ve got too much riding on it at this point.

Bears over Detroit: 31-10.

Now, there’s the forest. Mushrooms and the Strawberry River for us all.

I voted 1-11

I think we give up a TD in Garbage time in the 4th quarter to make the score 27-20 or something like that.

sunday's game

I voted for 12-19. The key will be a quick start, something like 10, 14-0 in the 1st quarter, the kind of dominant performance we need to have.

by walterfan34 on Dec 3, 2010 2:28 PM CST reply actions

Also 12-19

The Bears seem to take their foot off the gas when they go up three scores. The Lions couldn’t play spoiler against most teams’ back-ups. Especially when they are playing their second string at a few positions.

20+

And by a lot more than 20, especially if Ditka is involved.

by DaHamsta on Dec 3, 2010 3:00 PM CST reply actions

I'm looking for this game to progress much like the Carolina game

Rushing success early, especially with KVB out. Stall a couple of drives inside the 5 due to the Suh factor, and allow a quick TD to Mega. I’d go with 16-7 at half, four scoring drives ending with 3 FGs and a TD.

From here, it all depends on the play calls. If Martz continues with the balanced, or rushing centric attack, then the Bears will whittle down the Kittens defense and they’ll start scoring TDs where we got FGs earlier. Another 3 scoring drives, all TDs, if that happens. If Martz becomes Mad Mike again, zero scores in the second half. Defense lets another Mega insane catch, but this one gets stopped at the 5, and they get a FG.

I’m seeing this either being something like 16-10, or a complete Bears whitewash. No middle ground.

by Doshi on Dec 3, 2010 3:15 PM CST reply actions

I just don't see how the Bears are looking past this game.

It’s a divisional rival, which means this is a must win for our team. If we want to have any chance of getting into the playoffs this year we can not give this one away. I don’t care how beat up/washed up/broken up a division rival is, you can’t let an upset happen or we’re out of it. I’m sure the coaching staff is hammering this point into the players’ heads.

All we have to do is win out in the division and we’re a lock for the playoffs. Right now it’s the last game of the season that provides the biggest question mark for me. If we lose any divisional game before then…we’re cooked.

Jake is right, we did have a band powerful enough to turn goat piss into gasoline.

I'm Going Out on a Limb

and predict that the Bears will blank the Lions 16-0 just like that Miami game. Why? Miami has got a third string QB and Kyle Vandenbosch is out.

by Gaak on Dec 3, 2010 11:55 PM CST reply actions

this is the game where we get another shut-out.this will not be the last this season. we will get 1 more, against the pats GO BEARS

I think

The Patriots game is actually more winnable than the Jets game because the Cover 2 works better against younger ineperienced QB’s other than vets. Brady will pick apart the Cover 2, Sanchez will struggle.

What you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I think his post had a good point. He obviously meant that the Jets game was more winnable than the Pats but it came out wrong. This is his second post here. Maybe grant the guy a little freakin’ slack before breaking out the name calling.

by reefermadness3 on Dec 5, 2010 12:26 AM CST up reply actions

If peeing your pants is cool, consider me Miles Davis.

Both are winnable. I will be attending the Jets game, and it is highly winnable as this team has been playing out of it’s a**. The Jets success has nothing to do with it’s passing game, the running game drives their offense. It will be shut down by the Bears, and they will have to rely on the passing game, which will work out in favor of the Bears. New England is driven by their passing offense, and in particular screen passes and short throws. With us dropping more and more guys into coverage, they will have to try to run it, which will fail because they have an offensive line which is paid and drafted to pass protect first. Also, I don’t care what any of them have done, they have no running back.

by Higgins on Dec 5, 2010 3:09 AM CST up reply actions   1 recs

i truly believe we could shut out the pats what with the injuries they have on both sides of the football and the way our defense are playing. they can double team our obvious threat (peppers) but that just leaves the game open for other d-linemen.with brady limited in his movements and our running game coming out of hibernation we can control the clock at last we have every chance to keep them playing catch-up.

by stepeo on Dec 4, 2010 2:42 PM CST reply actions

What doesnt make sense? Veteran QB’s have a history of dissecting Lovie’s cover 2. Carson Palmer, Kurt Warner, Brian Griese, Peyton Manning, even Hasselbeck. Younger QB’s struggle with it, Stafford, Fitzpatrick, Ryan, and Shaub. Look it up!

by hEnIcE on Dec 4, 2010 3:08 PM CST reply actions

Think he was talking about you saying the Pats was the more winnable game...

while saying it’s because experienced QBs take the cover 2 apart. Second half doesn’t support the first. Unless you meant the Jets is the more winnable game because Sanchez won’t be able to beat the cover 2. Which is agree-able.

Also, that was before Julius Peppers.

The cover-2 is built around pressure from the front four. If you don’t have that, it fails miserably. The minute you have to start safety blitzing to compensate for the fact that the opponent knows you can’t get to his qb, the cover 2 fails. The key words being “have to”, a safety blitz is a good way to mix things up to throw off quarterbacks looks, but when you have to do it your defensive scheme is failing with the personel you have.
