I was going to just leave a comment but I thought I'd create a quick fanpost because I think this topic deserves it. For all the hand wringing by fans and the media since the Cutler trade, a few things have transpired. Let's run through them shall we?
1.) With Josh McDaniel only hope of staying in Denver being that management would be paying 3 different coaches, Jay Cutler proved that he saw what no one else could... The iceberg off in the distance that Boy Wonder was about take that Broncos ship right into. He was called a jerk, a baby, and selfish. Hell for all I know maybe he is. But the facts are the facts and guess what? Jay Cutler deserves an apology from every analyst, every doubter, and every Bronco Kool-Aid sipper out there. Why? Because he was RIGHT. McDaniels was a young coach drunk on power and he's reaping the benefits of his labor as we speak.
2.) Cutler deserves an apology from every person that said Orton was a winner and Cutler was a hollow stat guy... Cutler: 17-12 as a starter for the Bears and on the brink of taking his team to the playoffs. Orton: 11-17 with no chance in hell of the playoffs. But hey great stats Kyle!
3.) Don't look now but Jay may actually having his best year as a pro. He's projected stats are 23TD, 13 INTS, 63% completion rate and 92.8 QB rating. That's with this O-line and with this receiving core. (That is actually growing on me but still), and a new offense to learn. Impressive. I would have taken a 30 TD and 20 INT season myself at the beginning of the season but I think Jay overall has been brilliant and deserves a lot of credit.
I'm not trying to say Jay is a pro-bowler this year. But one thing is for sure, this isn't 2005 or the second half of 2006. It isn't all defense and Hester. Yes he had the one stinker against the Redskins but Jay has won us games this year and is in position to make good on the original trade and yes he was worth the draft picks and Kyle Orton. With the Patriots coming into Chicago this week, we're in the stretch run and now this thing really gets fun but remember one thing, so far he's done what we've all asked when we got him: Make us a contender even if our roster says we shouldn't be year in and year out (Well at least that's what I asked for). The next month should be interesting to see how good this guy really can be.
Update: Looks like McDaniels was fired today. How prophetic was this post? Guess Cutler was really right!
