Hindsight is 20-10
Lets start with this... I know that this is all hindsight but I thought we could go over the 2009 Draft.
Pick # 1
Second Round #17
Andy Levitre (oregon st)
Became Left Guard for Bills started all 16 Games.... Wasnt Fantastic but NOT Omiyale!
Pick #2
Third Round Comp Overall #99
Austin Collie (BYU)
Outstanding Rookie for the Colts with the injury to Anthony Gonzales, has stepped into the 2/3 role with ease... sure hands... not the quickest.
Pick #3
Fifth Round #4
Jasper Brinkley (south Carolina)
With the Injury to Urlacher this would be a Great Pick for the Bears.... Was a starter at MLB for the Vikings.... Played well....
Pick #4
Fifth round #19
Johnny Knox (ABC)
Played well for the Bears.... he has vast potential as WR and as a KR.....
Pick #5
Sixth Round # 17
Al Afalava (Oregon st)
Played well for the bears as a rookie.... has shown potential in a poor secondary... didnt record an INT
As most of you can see not that many Picks change but it would vastly improve the team.
What do you guys think?

Brinkley
Was a starter at MLB for the Vikings…. Played well….
He was a liability in coverage, and was exposed because of his size, lack of good speed.

Well he played a hell of alot better than hillenmeyer
and roach…

Lol no.
Hillenmeyer got defensive player of the week one week i believe after getting…20 tackles or so and a force fumble.
Makin' Copies
I dont get it
HH has been a solid stopgap player for us for years. i liked the move coming down from GB years back. i always was a HH fan in 04/5/6, then he dropped off a bit with Vasher, and still showed up everyday.
and he almost always makes the crucial needed play…and yes the naysayers will say that he costs us as much as he helps us, but still, he’s won some games for us, most notably, the Minn game
He isn’t any worse than Brinkley, or any of these other guys they try to sell us everyweekend. most notably the “deep” reserves of the NY football Giants.

How?
Exactly how did one player lose a whole game by himself? That’s just crap. Not a better backup in the game.

It was week 16 against the Vikings
Yeah I know that but I wouldnt say one game makes up for his being a liability all year

And he sucked b@llz in the other 15 ....
…Hunter Hillenmeyer was TERRIBLE last year. One good game does not excuse how bad he was. 90 tackles as MLB for the Chicago Bears ? Patrick Willis had 150 on a 4-3 defense. Urlacher would have had 130/140 and he was our defensive captain. Williams is the hidden legend, and he could walk if we don’t pay him.

The problem here
is that HH was never and will never be, Urlacher, Willis, Lewis. or anyone else.
90 tackles for someone who was benched the other year, is not bad.
if you want every linebacker to be Urlacher, you are going to be dissapointed. HH did pretty well for his role

+1
How is it that everyone seems to forget that Hunter is the backup? No, he’s not Urlacher. But then neither is anyone else in the league. Brian has a unique skill set for a MLB that comes from playing Safety and WR in college, and is supported by his unique size/speed ratio. Expecting anyone to be 54 is just silly, especially a backup.

HH did a good job in the middle

I disagree with you...
I felt that hillenmeyer made alot of mistakes in the middle… he would often change up coverage to what he read out of the offensive formation only to get it blown up most notably on third and long.

....
HH played pretty damn well considering he is more of an outside LB. I guess we shoulda throw Tim Shaw in there then. Im also pretty sure there are plenty of other player to blame for giving up 3rd and long plays, they are always over the middle. Our safties never knew when to come up and there was never pressure on the QB. Sure he made mistakes but sure as hell didnt play poorly
The Short middle is
Hillenmeyers responsibility. The play is funneled through him… his mistakes we in dropping to deep or getting caught in the play action. The safties are intended to be exactly what thier name implies safety nets. They are the Deep outside third in the Tampa-2

Which is why, considering.....
Lovie chose to start hunter, he should have adapted for Hunters’s lack of speed at the position. But he didn’t. Failure here goes to Smith. Hunter doesn’t have the Urlacher type speed to correct, and Lovie knew it.

Hillenmeyer is the most under-rated member of the Midway Linebackers Club
I’d take him any day of the week over Brinkley.

haha
Brinkley is terrible dude…Garret Wolfe on the IR could run thru him..
Okay Smart Guy....
If my Pick was so bad… you pick a better player with the Fourth Pick in the Fifth round.

Johnny Knox, since that's where we actually picked him....
Knox was the 5-4 pick. Marcus Freeman was the 5-18 pick and a better choice would have been either Victor Harris or Javon Ringer with the 5-18 pick.

I'll take our actual 2009 picks...
because we got a good QB out of it. Otherwise we’d be stuck with Orton.

I did include the trade for cutler...
Hence no First or Third rounders as well as an extra Fifth what I omitted was the trade with the seahawks for our second round pick.

Not a bad list....
But Knox was 5-4. No guaranteeing he’s still there at 5-18.
Brinkley wouldn’t have been a bad pick, but I would have rather seen Victor Harris. I think both show promise. I’m just not sure why we took Freeman in the first place given out LB depth. Harris seemed like a better choice.
My personal choices would have been:
2-17 Phil Loadholt though I’m good with the levitre pick, too.
3-35 Glover Quin (Gil Brandt felt that Quin, along with Knox were two of the biggest surprises of the draft)
5-4 Johnny Knox (which means brinkley isn’t available anyways by the next pick.)
5-18 Victor Harris
6-17 Al Afalava (good pickup by Angelo, as was Knox)

Austin Collie wouldn't of saw the field this year if he played for us guranteed
He is more possesion type receiver and not the burner that Knox was, and they pretty much leaned on Bennett all year for the big 3rd down catches, Hester caught a few too before he got hurt.
