Resume Booster
Lovie is probably just getting his son an NFL level job so that he can use it in the future. He is not the first NFL coach to get his family on the payroll…and he won’t be the last.
The position his son is in is more of a learning position anyway. I’m not upset about the move…if they hired him to be DB Coach or D Coordinator then I would have an issue, this is realatively harmless…probably why JA/TP/McCaskeys signed off on it.

No...but as stubborn as Lovie has been...at very least he hasn't back tracked on his word too often.
Goals when hired:
Beat GB – check
Win Division – check
Win Super Bowl – half check, but that’s not too bad.
Rex is our QB – really did he have to say that
We get off the bus running – yep we know…
I really think that Lovie for all of his shortfalls takes pride in doing what he says he’s going to do…even if it is not the easiest or right thing to do…

like when he said he'd be open to a DC
with new ideas?
If it was in his scheme...
Listen I don’t pretend to be Lovie’s bigest supporter…in fact I think he has done an average job since his hire. There have been some extraordinary moments in his tenure, but overall…pretty average. But there are by far worse coaches in the NFL who have coached and who are still coaching today
I think when the talking heads held the press conference in January, I think it was obvious that the “change” was going to be on the offense…and that Lovie who stated his scheme was not going to change, had Fewell in mind for DC, and that it was probably ok’d by JA & TP…

How does he get a half check for losing the Super Bowl?
That’s like giving medals to all the participants because they tried hard.

30 other teams would have loved to get a half check that year...
How many teams haven’t been to the Super bowl in a decade, two decades, at all???

I'm not debating that other teams wouldn't like to be in the Super Bowl
But if the goal is winning the Super Bowl, and you don’t win the Super Bowl, how do you get half credit?

It's like in grade school
When you showed your work…had the right process, but screwed up the long divison…your teacher still gave you partial credit :-)
I know by definition a half check is like being “sort of pregnant” But if, and I know it is a big if, Rex’s intersception was called back by an offsides penalty, or Mushin would have actually pulled the Colt out of bounds at the 30-whatever yardline, and the Bears won SB 41 Lovie would be considered the next best thing since Ditka.
All I’m saying is before we gather the angry mob, sharpen our pitchforks, light our torches, and head to Halas Hall, let’s take a deep breath and look back to the Bears pre-Lovie and ask is it really that bad right now???
I know it’s not perfect and we’ve lost games that we should have won…but I’m not quite ready to say the Mayans predicted the outcomes of the last three seasons. If Urlacher wouldn’t have gone down in the first game of the year I think the season would have looked different too.

How many coaches have sucked as badly as Lovie
and still have their jobs? Also, he’s was the highest paid coach until Shanny signed with the Redskins. Why is mediocrity still rewarded?

You forget "Trust me." When he fired Rivera.
If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.
I think the jury is still out on that one...
Rivera was and will always be a great Bears player…as far as a coach either with the Bears or the Chargers…I’m not quite sure.
I personally feel that he hasn’t proven much in San Deigo, and if Lovie gets all the blame for the defense scheme…how can Rivera take all the credit. I do think Rivera was a better fit than Babich…however I don’t think Rivera was the total reason for the success of the Bears defense during the superbowl run.
If the D comes out this year and is play lights out and SD’s D falls flat won’t that make Lovie’s “Trust me” look a little better…but if our D falls flat and SD’s D is a world beater…then yes I will concede to your point…but we will have to see what the final outcome is…

All I know is
in 2006 the Bears played more Tampa 2 than the last 3 years

So what you're saying is...
Lovie is too open to new ideas in the last three years and he should be more stuborn and stick to his guns like he used to :-)

It's because
in ’06 they had a very good pass-rush without having to blitz. Now, they have to blitz just to breath on the opposing QB. To add, Vasher had a career year as a rookie because of the D-line.
