Bears Hire Mike DeBord As TEs Coach
In what will be his third season in the NFL, former Seattle Seahawks TE coach Mike DeBord has been hired to fill the vacancy created when Rob Boras was fired following the 2009 season. DeBord spent the majority of his coaching career at Michigan and Central Michigan in the NCAA ranks. From the Bears official site:
This past season DeBord, 53, tutored second-year tight end John Carlson, who caught 51 passes for 574 yards and a team-leading 7 touchdowns.
Besides the fact that he looks like George Bluth from Arrested Development, what are your thoughts on this hire?

Well, at least it's another hire.
Hopefully Martz’s offense doesn’t turn him into another line coach.
Hmmm
interesting hire IMO…considering he is from holgrens west coast style offense that implements the TE a little more that martz style offense…..

Isn't this a lateral move?
TE coach to TE coach?

Hmm

I thought someone was already hired to be the TE coach,,,,
Maybe I’m thinking of someone else.
And kudos for the “Arrested Development” reference.

I was thinking of Tice

He looks.... jovial.
Tice will eat him for lunch.
If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.
He coached in the MAC and specifically at Ball State!
So now we got Jon Hoke and DeBord for all our random Ball State connected coaching needs!

To me, that is unbelievable.
Very cool, just unbelievable. I would have never thought two coaches from Ball St. would be on the Bears coaching staff or even one for that matter. I actually think that is awesome.
Walter Payton lives on!!!
It's probably surprising
How many coaches from random small schools are in the NFL. For example how Brad Childress, Mike Shannahan and Sean Payton all went to Eastern Illinois.

Meh... our old TE coach was doing a pretty good job.
But, since he wasn’t bed buddies with Lovie, he got the axe. The guy who needs to go is RB coach Tim Spencer… junk. But, he massages Lovie’s balls, so he gets to stay.

Jerry Angelo trades for Jay Cutler! (4.2.2009)
.
Agree with that
Boras was doing a fine job, Tight Ends have been a strength of this team for years. Considering our previous commitment to the run and frequency of two TEs on the field to block our running game has only been mediocre, at least before this year when it dipped to bad.
Can’t verify the massaging though, never knew our RB coach’s name til it was mentioned that he wasn’t fired. That’s how impressive he’s been.
I really never understood that pink slip
Offensive line and QB coach got it, but TE’s have been our strength for a while now. He can’t coach toughness in Olsen to make hard catches over the middle and hold on to the ball, he’s not at that level of tight end yet. Look at K. Davis, beast last year and Dez has been a beast for a few years now. Oh well, i will never understand the Bears sometimes i guess.
I just hope this guy can instill more of a blocking sense of urgency and toughness in Olsen if we ever want him to eventually be our Dallas Clark.

I've seen Spencer bashed a few times
I’m curious, because I have no idea about his coaching style one way or the other, but what about him is bad?

Love the Arrested Development reference!
Word is, they’re gonna do a movie. Truly one of the best shows ever!
I hope they make the movie.
I loved that show.

They've been talking about it forever
but I believe Bateman said they’re finally moving forward with it. IMDB has it listed as “in production.”
I don’t know how many times I’ve watched that show and yelled at the tv, “How the F did this show get cancelled??” Then I think about the other sitcoms on the air, and I chuck my remote through the screen.
