Filling Out the Staff- Bears Almost There (Day 29 Open Thread)
Lovie Smith has said he'd like to have a complete staff by the Super Bowl, and with the hiring of Mike Martz as Offensive Coordinator, only two spots remain: QBs coach and Defensive Coordinator.
Brad Biggs let's us know that Shane Day is in Chicago today, and may end up as the new QBs coach for the Bears. Day coached with Martz in San Francisco.
As far as the DC spot is concerned, many are speculating that there still may be a promotion from inside. Stay tuned...

If Marinelli is promoted, then they need to hire a d-line coach… I wonder if Richard Dent is available?

I've said all along it'll be Martz and Marinelli. All the interviewing was a smokescreen. You don't get a job with the Bears unless you're a BFF of Lovie.
I know where
you’re coming from with the BFF thingie. Try not to let the chronic cynicism of the media suck you in. It’s totally logical and common practice to put a staff together with personnel that shares a common ground.

I'm with BigGeorge on this one
I know that some like the same personnel wherever they go, but this team was at its best when “Lovie’s Boys” didn’t fill the coaching ranks. There is nothing wrong, and perhaps it is better, when stubborn minded coaches are challenged by their staff. Lovie really only has yea-sayers and yes-men at this point.
Also, I’m not so certain that trying to recreate the “good ol’ days” of the Tampa Bay Bucs or the St. Louis Rams which were years if not decades ago is progress. i

Lovie's Last Stand
He has to go with what he knows because if he doesn’t get it right this time, he’s probably gone. The staff has to get on the same bus, whatever type of bus it is, with a renewed sense of “win now or else” urgency. They may be his “BFF’s” but they are very experienced coaches that weren’t great head coaches, but are considered by the league to be amongst the best position coaches, yes-men or not.
I’m not disagreeing with the concept of bringing in the latest whiz kid to revolutionize a stagnant and predictable scheme. I’m just suggesting that we not let all the negative and nonconstructive criticism that we read influence us too much.

Alan Williams Would Be A GREAT FIT
I like the sound of defensive backs being well taught…..
I agree
gives you an outside perspective with “new wrinkles” on run the cover 2 from a super bowl team….Not to mention that he stated that he would be interested in the job and sounded like he wanted to take a step up….
Having said that and knowing how the Bears work they probably do not even bother with his comments and promote Hoke or marinilli today or tomorrow….

Shane Day
Sounds like another Pep Hamilton. We need someone with experience to give Cutler a buffer from Martz when the two don’t get along. Not another inexperienced hack. This would be a terrible choice.

i concur
new QB coach either needs to be cutler’s pal or actually qualified. this guy seems neither.
I concur
with the concurring…..

I don't like this either,
but it sounds like a done deal considerig he has worked with both Martz and Debord.

And now, to an inside exclusive at Halas Hall....
Where, the Bears are trying to promote from within to fill the defensive coordinator position

Frankly, if you find that offensive
you need to prioritize your morals a little more.
If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.
Well
it was at the offish forums and while most found it funny there were a small part of people that found it offensive….So just wanted to make sure…dont want to get into any trouble….

I found it funny
people who get easily offended are even funnier.

Haha.
I almost posted this in my first post as a writer, but didn’t. It cracked me up though!
