LT AND UMINYORA
FREE AGENTS
two free agents that could be a good pick up for the bears.Tomlinson, we could use him as back-up to Forte. Then Uminyora he could be available. He would be a valuable asset to our pass rush. This is a guy who is very good at getting people fired up and pushing the borders. If he was available would we strive to get him in a bears uniform.I would like to see us with a two headed monster in the back-field and think that LT could play tandem with Forte. do anyone else agree with me.

Screw LT. He will want to be the number one guy and it’s pretty obvious that he is NOT the same player he was. If he was unwilling to take a pay cut and stay in San Diego, he’s not going to like being second. But I do agree with your choise of Osi. He would be a MONSTER. But I don’t think he’s an UFA which means the Bears have nothing to give for him. But I would like Kampman over LT. And he is a UFA. Imagine Kampman and if we could, Umenyiora on both ends. Bloody brilliant

yes to osi no to lt
also i hope the bears at least pretend to go after julius peppers as well. i want to see if kevin jones is any good as a #2 back next season, assuming he is back to 100 by training camp.

I thought this Kevin Jones as our #2 RB thing was over with...
He is a liability that has burned us 2 years in a row. At best he gets the #3 RB spot. LT or not, we certainly need an upgrade at RB #2 Granted we have other needs but I would love it if they picked Toby Gerhart in the 3rd round. Chester Taylor has also been suggested.
Re: Osi: he is a good player, but I would rather we spend big money on the OL as IMO the DLine is serviceable, but the OL and Secondary are not.

Yeah
Bears are not going to waste a valuable pick on RB with gaping holes at RT, FS, and DE. I agree with Chester Taylor though- he’d be a beast in Martz’s system.

meh
hopefully they address RT and DE in free agency… doing so would not just be a wise decision to insert veterans at the positions of need, but would also allow us to draft a RB like Gerhart if he is available. If they skip free agency hoping to upgrade only though a draft where we have no 1st or 2nd round pick then they are dumber then I thought. Picking Gerhart in the 3rd round would be neither a waste nor a “valuable” pick.

Ok
If that’s the scenario, then I tend to agree with you. Based on what JA said, it doesn’t seem like that’s how it will transpire. In an uncapped year and future uncertainty, the only teams overpaying for overrated veterans will be Dallas, Wash, NY Jets/Giants and other team owners with deep pockets. Unfortunately, the Bears aren’t one of them.

sure
but i don’t expect them to pay or overpay in any scenario, they will sign bottom tier FAs to fill those positions and tell us they are gold… That said, that plan will fall apart if they then use the picks on the positions they have just filled and told us they upgraded big time via free agency….

I don't get it
After Hot Rod’s promotion (which he didn’t really warmly accept), I have joined you and Sackman in being WCG’s best known pessimists.

a little late for the conversation,
but no way should we keep KJ. Two wasted years and he has shown us nothing. Unless being injured is what you call a great pick-up, there is No way I want to see this guy on the Bears roster.

They're not free agents
So a trade would have to happen since I highly doubt Osi is getting cut.

Give the Giants what they need on paper
Their Secondary needs bodies after not being real good at all this year, Daniel Manning and Nate Vasher could be enough to get Uminyora optimistically.

I agree
We are also so deep at SS we could give them away 4 some picks or package them for Osi. Imagine this Front 4:
LE Osi U
NT V Wilfork
DT Tommie Harris
RE A Kampman
And the Secondary:
LCB C Tillman
SS Al Afalava
FS OJ Antogwe
RCB Z Bowman

I want them to sign him and from what I have read they are going to.

But the thing is
The Giants have two former first round picks in the secondary, Aaron Ross CB and Kenny Phillips at FS, and both were on injured reserve last season, so there’s already solid potential. Factor in Corey Webster, a solid corner and really all they need is depth, something their draft can bring, plus we would have to sign Daniel Manning then trade him since he is restricted. And who is going to want Nate Vasher with his monster contract and sub-par performance as of late. I’d give them a 2nd and a player or two tops, but I see no players they’d want.

recycling is good for the earth, but not likely to work in the NFL
ie we can’t give them trash and expect to get a player of Osi’s quality back in return. it just doesn’t work that way.

you do know JA is our GM right?
he’s not doing a damn thing this offseason.

Yes to Osi, No to LT
If we get a back he needs to be question-mark free, any pass rushers would be welcome – go get Dumervil man !!!

I don't know.....
I kinda like LT. He has enough wheels left to push Forte, which isn’t something anyone else on the roster has been doing. I think LT would be a solid back-up and he would light a fire under Matt’s bum. Assuming of course that he could be had relatively cheap and that he would accept a back-up role.
I say wait to see if he’s on the market late in FA, and if he is still there (and he very well could be. The league is not lacking for good RBs right now) offer him a spot as a back-up. If he declines, so be it. But if he accepts, he’s a solid mentoring back-up that might put a little worry in the back pf Forte’s mind.
I like Forte, don’t get me wrong. And I know he was injured. But he also seemed very apathetic last season, and really only seemed to play with heart after Bell ran off that 72 yarder on his first carry. I just felt like he was phoning it in for a while. I hope he turns it up a notch this season.

i feel ya on that
he def needs someone there to push him. he didnt seem to play hard that often.. I also dont see LT settling for a back up role tho. I think he has wheels left to but is going to want to start. I wish he coulda stayed healthy so he could destroy the all-time record.. but i do agree with what you are saying

We agree.....
LT might want that starting spot. But if we wait until late in FA, and he has a chance to see that he isn’t going to get that starting spot without earning it from a backup position, playing Forte’s backup/spell back might become very attractive to him. If he can walk in as Forte’s backup, and earn the starting gig, I’m all for it. And that late in FA, he might be willing to accept that sort of deal as well, and at a reasonable price.
Face it. Forte is a decent back. But he’s not great. A LT with a renewed commitment to proving himself might be what it takes to make Forte great, or take the starting job away from Matt.

if not LT
lets hope somebody lights a fire under his ass..
who else out there u think is capable of this? LT would clearly be the forst choice (him runnin in the alternate orange jersey would look sweet). Any other FA’s you think could spark Forte to play like he is capable of?…or do we rely on the draft :/

Forte's problem last season had nothing to do with motivation, that is just nonsense
Forte was not healthy and the OL stunk, that explains his struggles last season not some imagined complacency. He will be healthy in 2010 and hopefully the OL will be better. If it is, Forte puts up good numbers.
As for LT looking sweet in the orange jerseys, no one looks sweet in those butt ugly things. They look like a bad joke.

I would love to get Osi as well.
Pass on LT unless he is cheap. They should get rid of KJ, GW, and AP. Let’s not settle for mediocrity and that is what they have given us. CT would be ideal for this offense with Martz and he is far from mediocre. Imho, he would have a better season than Forte…but they would compliment each other perfectly. If we don’t pick up CT, then get Gerhart in the draft and fill a lot of needs with FA.
