Schefter: Bears Cut Pace

Adam Schefter just tweeted that the Bears released Orlando Pace. Guess they realized he's washed up or that he wouldn't take a back up spot or moving to RT. So now that he's out of the picture, does this mean more moves will be made this offseason? I am pretty sure we all knew it was coming in some way. Who knows I'm just speculating.

Guess the Rams knew what they were doing - Chicago Bears cut OT Orlando Pace.

I was just writing one of these about that.

Seen on CSN that they also talked to Julius Peppers agent over the weekend. Good news on both fronts imo. OP would have been great for us about five or six years ago, but they need to trim some fat. They are going to have to pick up a left OT at some point?

Hopefully we can get Peppers and Rolle.

Those two moves would improve the D greatly and if we can get another Defensive addition plus a guard or tackle through the Draft I think we’re set.

by DaHamsta on Mar 1, 2010 7:09 PM CST up reply actions

I really doubt we'd be able to get both

and I’ve read that the freakin’ Redskins are going after Peppers too. They like to spend money and I hope that the Bears will stay strong in the bidding war.

by PolishSausage.Ditka.Bears. on Mar 1, 2010 7:13 PM CST up reply actions

That was completely different from this though

Peppers isn’t being traded. In the Cutler trade, Orton is a better QB than Jason Campbell and that was the determining factor in us winning that trade. Washington has money coming out of the ying-yang and without a cap they could offer him something that the Bears aren’t willing to. Hopefully Lovie, Angelo and Phillips are concerned enough about their job security that they are willing to pay big money.

by PolishSausage.Ditka.Bears. on Mar 1, 2010 7:34 PM CST up reply actions

Snider does have deep pockets.

If he made a big deal for Peppers, I think that would probably make them the highest paid defense. Not sure, but I think so. Them spending money hasn’t always worked out to their advantage. For the money they spent last year, it was a horrible failure to say the least. If we spent the money, I don’t see that happening.

You have to admit..

they would have an excellent chance to be a very strong defense adding those two guys. Who knows what they will do, all kinds of scenario’s. I am really looking forward to FA. I think they will go Big to improve their defense. They have let me down over and over in the past when it comes to FA, but with the circumstances, I can see them making some pretty major moves. I sure hope so!!

Im not denying that at all

of course having Rolle and Peppers would be huge for us. I’m definitely crossing my fingers on that, it’s just that we would be acquiring two players who will be commanding the most money in their respected positions out of any other DE or FS. Doesn’t seem probably to get them both but I really hope that they do. If not get Peppers and try and sign Sharper.

by PolishSausage.Ditka.Bears. on Mar 1, 2010 7:45 PM CST up reply actions

right...still can't wait to see how things go down.

I sure hope they make the most out of FA even if we don’t get them both. I can see us at least picking up Rolle.

I was thinking of making a post about this but..

if the Bears only got Rolle would you consider that a disappointment? If they can get Kampman too then that would be a different story but what if they only got Rolle? The post I was thinking of making was if the Bears could only get one free agent which one would you choose and why.

by PolishSausage.Ditka.Bears. on Mar 1, 2010 7:53 PM CST up reply actions

Good question,

that would have been a good post. I think the most believable two FA aquisitions for DE and FS would be Kampman and Rolle. They sure seem to be pursuing Julius Peppers though. Now for your question, I would choose JP. We have been lacking that incredible pass rush which makes life so much easier for our db’s. I still think they would pick up one of the other FA FS’s and at least one db in the draft. Another FA position I think they will go after is a RB. Wow, all kinds of possibilities how that could play out if they do. My favorite FA DE is JP, wouldn’t be mad if got Kampman. My favorite FA FS is Rolle, wouldn’t be mad if we got Sharper. My favorite FA RB is CT, wouldn’t be mad if we got Leon Washington or LT. I would have put TJ first here with CT being my second choice, but I think JA has damaged any chance of picking him up.

I heard the Cardinals wanted to sign Rolle

but with the way the rules are they have to release him before they renegotiate

I would be happy with Peppers and Sharper,

definite improvement.

Kampman and Rolle

I would be afraid of Peppers because he may be a one year wonder because of age, attitude and a big fat contract. Cromartie was good for a short while and then reversed field in SD.
Finding good OL should be high on the list. Omiyale has to be benched and finding a top LT to protect JC is needed bad.

Agree on OL.

Although we have our LT (Chris Williams). We need a RT and/or a LG.

He has 81 sacks in 8 years

Not sure how that is a one year wonder..

that was the first...

thing I thought of when I read that. How can A guy with 81 sacks be a one year wonder?

Peppers will have a killer season if he signs with us imo.

With OP out of the picture, I think we will need depth at LT on our OL to back up Chris Williams just in case something happens. That just adds to our needs on the OL, but the blind side is extremely important.

good

now go spend that money wisely this time

Expect the Bears to be very big players in Free Agency.

The trio of stooges are in “save your job” mode, and Ted Phillips is the one who authorizes the spending. They have no 1st day draft picks to help make an immediate impact on the field, and therefore must use free agency to improve the roster in order to win next year.

If they sign the right guys, they’ll win games and keep their jobs. If they fail, they’ll lose their jobs, and they’re not on the hook for the bad contracts anyway.

that from what he understands is that the Bears do want to “spend big” to get a FS and DE….now its up to if they can deliver….guess we will see….

Why dont we sign both kampman and peppers

Im a big time bears fan but i highly doubt bears will get in a bidding war for peppers with other teams cause there to cheap..Which is good im hoping we can sign kampman at a cheaper price and sign rolle..With the money u spend on peppers u can sign kampman, rolle, and probly a offensive lineman.

by tazz34 on Mar 1, 2010 10:05 PM CST reply actions

If the Bears do not sign

Kampman, Rolle, Peppers or LT or any big name players and decide to re sign Ogun, Maybe Clark (safety) , or another back up i will be pissed. Now is not the time to be cheap> Hope DA Bears Management doesn’t dissapoint me

I guess this clears up some space

Still, though he played poorly, Pace was a class guy, and I wish him well

You could fit six Garrett Wolfe's...

in the space it cleared up on the bench.
