Does Chicago Have a New Top Dog?
as most of us know now, Jerry Angelo recently handed Mike Martz an interesting new toy, Chester Taylor. The question I have is who should get the majority of the touches, Matt Forte or Chester Taylor. After comparing the two side-by-side,
Matt Forte's Rushing and Recieving Stats
YEAR TEAM G REC YDS AVG LNG TD
2008 CHI 16 63 477 7.6 19 4
2009 CHI 16 57 471 8.3 37 0

2009 CHI 16 258 929 3.6 61 4

Chester Taylor's Rushing and Recieving Stats
YEAR TEAM G ATT YDS AVG LNG TD
2002 BAL 15 33 122 3.7 17 0
2003 BAL 16 63 276 4.4 32 2

2009 MIN 16 94 338 3.6 25 1
YEAR TEAM G REC YDS AVG LNG TD
2002 BAL 15 14 129 9.2 20 2

2009 MIN 16 44 389 8.8 33 1
Career 123 265 2094 7.9 50 6
Anyone can see its a difficult decision, but one, I'm sure, Martz and Da Bears are going to love to have.
The fact that Matt Forte's rushing Average per carry has never topped 4 yards and Chester's has topped 4 ypc six out of his 8 years in the league is one reason why I feel Chester Taylor should get the majority of the carries. Also, at this stage in Taylor's career he is a much accomplished blocker which is a major asset the bears need because we all know how poor the Bear's O-Line is. The Chicago Bears are going to only go as far as Jay Cutler's arm can take them so the back that will stick his neck between the blitzing backer and Jay should be on the field the majority of the time. I think Mike Martz, Jay Cutler, and the Chicago Bears are going to love the new piece Jerry handed them recently.

There's only ONE top dog..
And it’s Duane “Dog” Chapman.

Taylor definately...
Forte’s rookie year was a fluke. He was simply awful last year, even if he had a few nagging injuries.
The only time the Mets win is in the offseason.
Yeah
injuries and a bad OL mean nothing

+1....
…. So GouldisGold you say repalce the 20 something up and comer with the 30 something runner ? And a few nagging injuries ? Your kiddin right ? Forte has a serious sprain , which required offseason surgery and fought a hammy from OTA’s on . And the line was horrid . No back could have put up good numbers behind that line .

I'm assuming he's talking
about Forte’s rookie season, vs. his Sophomore season

it wasn't a fluke
it was excess carries because we had no other options. his avgs stayed the same, his carries and receptions just went down and we could pass in the red zone so his TDs went down. Good overall back, avg rusher simple as that and the proof is in the pudding
+1 for Taylor
Forte is younger and has less wear on the treads.
Make him the starter, but do what some other teams do and rotate them around a lot during the games [like what the Cardinals did with Beanie and Hightower].
Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan.
I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad.
CT the starter for now
we use him up and grind him into the dirt and develop Forte a little more and save some wear and tear for when we need it, ie. playoffs and the future. CT will probably be done in 2 years and will be lucky to be on a team as a 3rd down back.
Then MF can learn from a good backer how its done.
Regardless of who the starter is
both get significant playing time. There is no real “starter”.

near even split
Martz said they’ll be co-starters, but hopefully the Bears will be smart enough to roll with the hot-hand on a game-by-game basis (i.e. no obligatory p.t. like during the Benson-Jones era). I think they’ll be about an even split with Forte “technically” starting – either way it won’t matter if the line doesn’t improve.

but
it’s a business in the end. His post may seem a tad mean but in the end the NFL is a business
it has nothing to do with being a business
my disdain has to do with his overrating Taylor and underrating Forte, and your agreeing with that. As Joe states, the two RBs will split the RB workload

Well there it is...
you think CT is overrated while I think Matt is overrated. I want both to get the ball but I do favor a 65-70% to 30-35% split in favor of Taylor. As for it being business, its "not right" to grind or use up somebody to get what you want in life but in business its a hard fact that its done in the name of $. That being said, my man CT is not getting younger and Matt is still developing so, I agree with Berserker33 idea.
