The Bears Den: 3/12/10
...remembering to set our clocks forward an hour this weekend.
Brad Biggs sheds some light on Peppers' contract; things aren't always the way they seem.
Contract details for Taylor and Manumaleuna.
Izzy Idonije preparing for his third trip to Nigeria; we don't see this side of pro sports enough.
Bell has been behind Taylor before, and is still eager to learn from him now.
Make sure you are following WCG on Twitter!
Life is a beach for a few members of our squad.
One of our favorite team reports on the internet, straight from USA Today.
Another pass rushing DT that the team will bring in for a pre-draft visit.
Taking a look at injuries on artificial turf.
Some people put stock into it, and some people don't. Tebow flunked the Wonderlic.

Every time I hear about Izzy...
it’s something positive. He’s a class act and is a fantastic utility guy on the D-line. IMO, he can be the #2 guy at every position. He’s not an elite DE/DT, but he’s damn good across the line and the Bears need his versatility. Don’t know much about Nate Collins, but I am all for replacing T Harris. My big concern is the persistent notion that the Bears are going to find elite talent on “under-the-radar” guys in the draft. To have success, the Bears need elite guys on that D-line and they have average/above average guys (Peppers excluded). The Bears need to take the tact that this draft is about getting quality depth/development talent to shore up the d- and o-lines. Maybe a gamble on a WR or DB with a pick, but that’s it. That’s why digging deeper and getting BOTH Shepard and Atogwe will be about the only realistic way the defense can improve beyond “Monster’s of the Mediocre”.

He scored the same as Brett Favre

If I never...
hear the name Tebow again…it’ll be too soon. I’ll be happy when he just goes on to sell used cars in Gainesville or on some book/spokesperson tour with James Dobson!

Used cars
that were endorsed by God. I seriously can’t stand the guy, and almost threw up in my mouth when I witnessed the SB commercial with his Mom. Blatant biased garbage!

Let me rephrase that
I don’t hate him just all the attention and coverage he receives.

i thought i was going to see a
wonderlic score of like 5 or something. 22 isn’t good but it’s not borderline disabled or anything. didn’t vince young get like a 6 or something when he took his test?
that is a cool usa today report too.
VYwas a 7 last I knew.
But the Wonderlic isn’t really a good translator of NFL potential… Haven’t there been some low scores/high NFL goods and vice versa? Can’t think of any specifics but for some reason Marino comes to mind.
Ryan Clady
I believe scored a 13.

I concur
What does knowing the answer to “if Bill has 2 apples and you give him 2 more but he gives 3 apples to Sara, how many apples does Bill have?” have to do with playing football? What it does, I guess, is gives teams an idea of whether or not this player is capable of learning. But my thing is, these guys don’t care to learn these things. They want to learn football. I wouldn’t expect a football player to be able to do my job and run a bank. Just like I can’t do his job. It’s what your trained to learn. They are trained to learn football, not math!!!
End rant!!!
In other words...
There’s no correlation between IQ and athletic success.
"Yes, risk taking is inherently failure-prone. Otherwise, it would be called sure-thing-taking." - Jim McMahon
Correct
In fact, you could probably make an argument that the smarter you are, the more you will suck!! I’m joking, but not really.
craig krenzel
fits your argument very well.

It's not necessarily
judging their math smarts… it looks at their problem-solving strategies, which does relate to how they think on the field. Am I saying it’s an accurate way to test QBs? No. But is it a little relevant? Yes. :]
"A lot of fans were drawn to me because they knew that whatever the score was, I was going to run as hard as I could on every play. You don't have that now, you have guys waiting for next week or even next year." - Walter Payton
Tebow is a Dunce?
I heard from many “experts” during the past few years (yes, I follow Florida football, and thus been aware of the Tebow for some time now) that Tebow has a very high football IQ. I thought the Wonderlic measured this: Football IQ.
Maybe he got nervous?
Either way, he’ll be a great value in the 3rd round. Bench him for a couple years or four, and have him study his ass off (as well as continue working on his throwing motion and footwork) and when he’s finally ready, he can be the proper backup Qb that we all know he can be.
:p
the Wonderlic has nothing to do with football smarts
it’s a test on general knowledge…

yes,
and getting a 22 is no big deal, it’s definitely not flunking. Very poor choice of words from Dane IMO.

From Wiki (I know, take it for what its worth)
This assessment roughly corresponds to examples from Paul Zimmerman’s The New Thinking Man’s Guide to Pro Football. According to Zimmerman, examples of average scores for each position are:
* Offensive tackle – 26
* Center – 25
* Quarterback – 24
* Guard – 23
* Tight end – 22
* Safety – 19
* Linebacker – 19
* Cornerback – 18
* Wide receiver – 17
* Fullback – 17
* Halfback – 16
A 22 is no big deal, and certainly not flunking.

How ironic....
Cutler and Orton got the same score, but both got beat by Grossman! This is proof that the Wonderlic means nothing.

Twitter irritates me.
There, I’ve said it. I don’t like the idea of twitter but I keep wondering what I am missing out on. I feel like there is an entire alternative twitter universe where wonderous things are occurring without my knowledge. I just hope it is as stupid as it sounds. Twitter… tweeting…
If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.
Maybe THIS will help your Tweeting experience. Funny stuff here.

That is Great Stuff dude...
I miss the shit my dad use to say. No lie, I used to ask my dad where my mom was all the time when I was young. His #1 reply to me was, “she went to shit, and the hogs at her.” This is the funny part, for probably two or three years, I didn’t know what a hogsater was. lmao!! But all kinds of sayings like that : )

Professionally done Chicago Bears Cake
from CakeWrecks.com – LINK >>
My wife went into a cake maker to get a small cake for my birthday. They asked what she’d like on it and she said, “How about the Chicago ‘C’, like The Chicago Bears’ ‘C’ logo? Is that possible?”
They said, “The Chicago C? No problem.”

Wonderlic
…is basically pointless. Who cares about general smarts? It would matter if it measured some sort of football iq, but since it doesn’t – pointless.
However, a 6 even for a trivia and trivial quiz such as the Wonderlic, is rock-bottom dumb. Dumb as in dumbass.
