Breaking: Nathan Vasher Released by the Bears
In a move that many people expected, Nathan Vasher was released by the Chicago Bears this afternoon. Per PFT:
The Chicago Bears, less than two weeks after bringing in plenty of new talent, have gotten rid of a guy who used to be one of the team's key players on defense.
Gone is veteran cornerback Nathan Vasher, a six-year veteran who appeared in one Pro Bowl.
Many people thought that Vasher's contract was too rich for his contributions, but in an uncapped year it's not like the cap space was needed. Nonetheless, thank you for your years of service, Mr. Vasher, and best of luck in the future.

About time!
He has sucked the past few years. I’d rather see Corey Graham or DJ Moore get some reps.
Nice move.
Now that cash can be reallocated to a FS

I think that's unrealistic
Probably, the Vasher move has more to do with the Jennings signing than a possible Atogwe signing. We can always dream though
Nothing will happen with Atogwe
until sometime in June I think. Atogwe doesn’t want to sign his tender is St. Louis and the Rams can match until Atogwe become an Un-restricted FA on June 1st. When that happens it will be a bidding war.
The Vasher move
has to do with the poor product he placed on the field and because of a bonus he would have been receiving had he gone into camp.

That's definitely who
I’m hoping for. So much so that I will be pretty disappointed if it doesn’t get done.
Have you heard anything on Deon Grant.
I saw something earlier on it not sure where though.
Adrian Pedestrian!! Now that's funny Mr. Bayless...
I'm not sure how Deon
would help us. He is a 31 year old SS, one thing that the Bears are really short on is SS. I like his size at the position and his stat sheet looks pretty consistent, all good things. Which one of our young SS do we get rid of to bring him on?
typing fail
one thing that the Bears are really short on is SS = one thing that the Bears are not really short on
let's hope
it’s to clear money for atogwe.
too bad about vasher. he sounded like a class act and a great guy. football is a business though.
Later Vasher...
Maybe you can rejoin Rex on the Redskins. They might even pick up your ridiculous contract too.
Many people thought that Vasher’s contract was too rich his performance, but in an uncapped year it’s not like the cap space was needed.
The uncapped year is the perfect time to dump the bad contracts. The Bears will eat his bad cap hits this year, when there is no cap – instead of next year, when there might be one. It’s a great decision.

Anyone know about Jennings
Saw he got signed but don’t know much about him.
I can look up stats but we all know what can be done with stats.
Another casualty of the Lovie Smith secondary........
Good luck, Nate.

Now that we've cut ....
….. some more dead weight lets hope we make a play for Atogwe or Grant . We now have the money to sign Atogwe so lets just get it done already ! Vasher never got his groove back and may struggle to find gainfull employment .

Sign a short CB, Release a short CB

Jennings is fast
while Vasher, not so much. Big difference.

I'd go for Atogwe, as we've all said, but
I’d also try to sign Andrews. He’s been injured for two years, but when healthy, can be a totally dominant interior lineman. We went through this with Marc Columbo – releasing him only to see him flourish with another team. And Columbo never had the success with us that Andrews had with Philly.
Why not take a chance? Sign Atogwe and Andrews, and draft the best available.

isn't Andrews a RT?
If you live in Chicago you are a bears fan, if you move from chicago you stay a bears fan, if you move to chicago you will be a bears fan.
that's his brother stacy. the andrews (shawn) that was released
was a probowl right guard in 06 and 07 before missing 08 and 09 to injury. He’s still only 27. if you can sign him on the cheap, with a legit chance to start…could be a huge boost. id do it in a heartbeat.

What you guys are ....
….. missing here is Andrews will not be recovered from his back surgery in time for the start of the season . So signing him makes little sense at this point .

How much
was his contract? Wasn’t it like 40 mil or something? Hopefully FS now =)
So, who else should they dump?
My picks – Basanez, Davis (wr), Davis (te) or Clark, Roach or Williams,

Out of all of those...
I seriously would only dump Rashied, that’s it. None of the rest have bad contracts, nor are they bad players.

I would of liked to get a 7th for him though......

Correct Me
On chicagobears.com “In 2006, Vasher set a record that has since been broken for the longest play in NFL history when he returned a missed field goal 108 yards for a touchdown in a win over the San Francisco 49ers”. he made his 108 yard return on 2006. Wasn’t it in 05 against SF at home and Hester did it in 06 in NY against the Giants
I think Hester tied his record.....

Thanx
After watchin the hightlights from 05. i wish i was home for that season :(. Can we get Gage back ?
Antonio Cromartie broke the record vs Minn in 07
Hester tied Vasher’s, Vasher’s was against SF, wore Orange jersey’s, Hester’s was against NY
