The Bears Den: March 18, 2010

...wishing Nathan Vasher the best of luck in the future.

Jason McKie walks away full of class and with nice words about the Bears coaches.

Another under-sized defensive player being brought in for a pre-draft visit.

Jay Cutler will appear at the Bears expo next week.  Will you?

MJ now majority owner of NBA team.  I wonder how Mark Saade will handle the news.

Owners set to vote on whether to change OT rules.  If Favre hadn't lost, would this be an issue?

In what seems to be a growing trend, another NFL player to forego offseason workouts to earn college degree.

I agree with OT changes… I know, I know, kicking a Field Goal counts, but I just find it to be a cheap way out of winning in overtime.

as it stands

for right now, I believe it’s just the playoffs.

It's the Viqueens Whinning about how they lost.

Farve blew another nfc championship game w/ another north team. Remember Chicago is the only nfc north team to win it. =)

confusing………because both GB and MIN have been NFC champ more times than we have in the Super Bowl Era. Am I missing something?

sSnce the new alignment.

To where theres 4 teams in each division now. The Bears are the only nfc north team to win as a north team. If were talking Central and earlier then yes they own us.

Haha! Good one, Dane.

I had to take a double take when I saw my name in the headline. Glad that MJ is still around the NBA game, I think he’s really good for the sport and the league. Now, if we could just get his sights set on coming back to Chicago……

Actually, the new rule being considered is...

Any time St. Brett throws an interception that costs his team the game, the Viqueens get a chance to respond (whether any time is left on the clock).

Anyone else think this new

“no hitting the receiver until he becomes a ball carrier” is a going a bit far?

way too far

by that logic, it should be a penalty for breaking up passes that don’t involve any contact at all.

seems to be what it's coming to

going to be voted on, along with the OT rules next week.

I wouldn’t mind if the NFL decided to change the overtime rules under normal circumstance, but considering to do so, because of a guy, Farve, which the NFL marketed last year like no other player in recent memory, did not fulfill his end of the bargain is ridiculous and insulting to the fan base.

For me, when a team reaches the playoffs, it says a lot about the team’s coaches, players, GM, scouting and ownership. If all of those components successfully perform their job building and coaching a team, it says the 3 essential parts of a team is better than the guys that fail to make post season play. But the real excitement for a fan is to see who’s the last one standing.

The Vikings lost because their QB made a crucial mistake and their defense failed to stop New Orleans and correct that mistake. GAME! When the Viking defense failed to stop Saints offense, it shows that extra mile Saints coaches did to get their team mentally prepared and ownership ability to assembly the right players to win in that overtime situation.

The current rules for me is exciting because it is up to that one component of a team to produce in a critical moment. I would love to still see defense pressure barrel down on an offense to stop the runner or end the game on a safety or sack on forth and long. Or a team’s offense showing their potency by gathering every ounce of energy and completely humiliating a defense by march it down for the winning score. GAME!

But to give another chance to a team that didn’t earn it during the course of a game by a defensive stop or win score to win or tie is ridiculous. Favre lost. The Vikings was not good enough to be the final two teams left standing.

Minnesota go back to the drawing board and grab the right players or stop your prize RB from fumbling or put a leash on your QB so he don’t throw another interception at an all-or-nothing moment. But NFL do not change the rules just for one guy. Sore losers. Accept your faith.

This is the pros

If your defense can’t hold for one series then u shouldn’t b a pro team period. Ot rules have worked forever why change it now? What is this ufl? C’mon man

The NFL OT Rule...

Is terrible, but I’m a firm believer that it should either be changed for everything, or not changed at all.
