Update on "Chicago Should Draft (Insert Name)!"

Due to the fantastic series being posted by Lester titled Bears Draft Weekend Possibilities (found here for FS, here for WR and here for OL), I've had to move back my own series.  So I'm continuing this thread, originally posted here, so that, after reading Lester's great series, members can vote for, and suggest new college players that have not yet been covered.  I had already drafted the first of my series, covering the FS position, when Lester Posted his, covering many of the same players, so rather than focusing on the same players twice, I figure it more informative to cover the guys that you want to hear about that Lester didn't have room for. I'll also still post video for the member favorites that Lester did cover.

Who are you interested in  that Lester left out?  Keep those names flowing!

Same rules as the previous thread, cept, lets try to incorporate Smudgers rec idea into the thread.  If you like someone you see, wreck 'im!

And one more thing.  To try and ease the process a little bit, try and post your players under the provided positional heading posts, where I'll also provide the original players that were posted on the previous, along with the votes for those players.......

Thanks, guys!  Bear Down!

(Edit) I appreciate the rec's guys, but I'm asking that nobody else rec's this post.  The last one got 18 rec's, which is honoring, and I appreciate the recs to move the post to the top, but I don't want to overshadow great post like Polish's Poison Pill post, which clearly was a better post that provided more information.  Again, thanks guys.  But let's not overshadow a great informative post with an "intentions" post.  I already erased the previous post in order to keep Polish's post on the page........

There are quite a few names on here that the Bears either would never draft due to their systems, or never draft because they will be long gone…

But since I love all things draft related, I’m looking forward to seeing your take on them.

whatever

dude can play. IF we drafted him our DLine could would be AMAZING.

by No It All on Mar 23, 2010 9:14 AM CDT up reply actions

I agree with this, also....

I don’t think Lester was saying Cody wouldnt’ be great. I think his commentary was more an indictment of Smith and Co’s rigid ideas about player development. They draft linemen based on scheme, and they draft linebackers and secondary based on speed, for the most part. A space eater like Cody has the talent to thrive wherever he ends up. But the Bears won’t draft Cody because he hasn’t played in this type of scheme. Could he be trained too? He seems capable of the change, but I don’t see the Bears (based on history) as being capable of developing him in that role.

Simply put, the Bears would never draft Cody because they aren’t capable of developing him.

I don’t remember the NFL’s last good white running back

by tommite622 on Mar 23, 2010 12:54 AM CDT up reply actions

Brad Hoover in Carolina was good. Peyton Hillis is pretty good. Jacob Hester hasn’t really gotten a shot to carry the ball much, (playing with Tomlinson & Sproles) but has potential.

Daryl Johnston was very good, as was Mike Alstott. And John Riggins was a great running back.

I couldn’t careless what color anyone is, but there’s some names for you!

by rdent4hof on Mar 23, 2010 8:10 AM CDT up reply actions

Not really...

there’s a difference between caring and being able to spout off names…

"A lot of fans were drawn to me because they knew that whatever the score was, I was going to run as hard as I could on every play. You don't have that now, you have guys waiting for next week or even next year." - Walter Payton

by Ashley Czuba on Mar 23, 2010 7:59 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't.

Just because someone knows the color of the running backs, doesn’t mean they care about it. Example: I know what color AP is, but I couldn’t care less. It’s a visual thing, and people aren’t racist* just because they can visually tell what color a person is.

*not saying that you are calling him or anyone racist.

I'm sorry for sparking this debate

I never meant to insinuate that Gerhart’s race should be taken into account when looking at him as a player or a person.

Unfortunately, as we have often seen, race has become a factor in football. Take for instance when Rush Limbaugh stated that Mcnabb is only seen as a good quarterback because he is black, while we all know that he is seen as a good quarterback because he is. The same can be said for Gerhart, because he is white many have commented that he is unathletic or not fast enough, which is not entirely true.

I’m happy to see though, that those who have commented on this racial subject have kept it classy and tasteful.

by tommite622 on Mar 25, 2010 12:00 AM CDT up reply actions

I wasn't actually trying to fight...

… i just think it’s odd that people play the race card so often. I’m not directing this at any one person, just society in general. It’s like the whole homophobic thing… some people are afraid of being seen that way so they obsessively try to explain why they’re not… which sometimes makes them look like they are… lol.

But I wasn’t arguing, just stating my opinion. :]

Your fine

It’s a fact. There is many more black running backs than white. So the percentages of good ones, great ones or bad ones are going to fall as such. I was just throwing some names out there to trigger your brain. You asked a question, I had an answer. That’s all. If folks want to read more into it, I’m fine with that. Won’t bother me and you shouldn’t let it bother you.

I can adjust. But to answer your question, I removed it when this post knocked Polish’s poison pill post of the list. But I took all the proposed names and included them on this post, so everything is here.

I won’t be completely avoiding players you post on, either. I just adjusted fire because most of the players you covered were on my listing. So I needed to offer more than a recap of what you were doing. Now it looks as though some positions might require more than one post just for me to include everything. I’m also now considering doing a post for each player. I’m now just not sure if I’m going to do individuals for the top positional vote getters, and then a best of the rest type follow up, or if I’m going to go all in and do individual posts for all suggestions. Right now I’m aiming for individual posts for the top 3 to 4 players at each positional group, and then a best of the rest for each group. Either way, Expect the first post in the series to begin this weekend. I’m trying to dig up all the info and video I can on these prospects, so it is taking me a bit to do the research.

So roll with what you know, bro. Please don’t let me alter your course, cause I’m loving your series. Honestly, the problem that originally caused this repost, actually led me into doing something I think will turn out even better. With the draft just 30 days away, I think I have the material and ideas to give WCG members a good overview of all of the players that they are interested in.

Sounds good!

I think after we’re done, Bears fans should at least recognize most of the names of the Bears draftees.

Easy now Lester

JA still drafts the players right?

lol.....

that might not even work…..we need to start scouting junior colleges. Jerry thought the small, obscure college thing was getting old ;)

I'm interested

in anyone who can make a positive impact as a starter at FS and G.

But leave it to Angelo to completely trade back, then mess up the next 3 picks

with obscure developmental projects at DT, DE and SS’s that will be converted into FS unsuccessfully. We’ll wind up with seven 6th and 7th round picks who will all but two be cut after training camp….

Trading down might happen

Delay......

I apologize that there will be a delay in the beginning of this series. My computer was attacked last night, and I have lost all documents, history, browser settings, bookmarks, and every program on my system. So I must take a few days to rebuild my computer and rebuild my research data and my video link catalog. I know I said that today would be the first day of the series, but some things I cannot control.

Thanks for the patience.

Ohh...

Sorry man, that sucks.
