This was tough enough
without the founding father. Ditka vs. Payton, Payton vs. Butkis, Butkis vs. Ditka. Any one of the aforementioned vs. Halas. One thing’s for sure, The winner is open for debate.
I have to hold out hope that people remember the greatness that was/is Gale Sayers.
The man was amazing and set the bar for all Bears running backs to come. If medical technology was anywhere near what it is today there is no doubt in my mind Sayers would hold most major rushing/returning records. He was Barry Sanders before there was a Barry Sanders and he had moves Sanders only dreamed of. Lightening in a bottle. Payton was a great, great man but Sayers was phenomenal.
If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.

I hope this helps my campaign for Sayers to win this thing. Talk about amazing.

Plus to all the Piccolo voters...
You realize “Brian’s Song” was based on the book Sayers helped write called “I am Third.” This refers to Sayers belief that in life, God came first, then family and friends and then he himself came third. He inspired people not only because of his great play, but because he was a great man. Check out the book Bear’s fans and then read “Never Die Easy” by Sweetness and you’ll see that Sayer’s example definitely inspired Walter.

Yep...I saw that before.
I wish I could have seen him play. He had to be truly amazing from the little bit of footage that I have seen. I will definitely check out the reading material sometime. I get into reading stuff like that.

Damned medical technology,
or lack there of in the 50s or was it 60s.
Really loving this thing...
Gotta admit, I’m not really a college basketball fan, so this has given me a bracket to follow during this time.
Will also admit I’m one of the folks that helped Butler move onto the next round. Not a better player than Atkins, but the guy means way more to me, as I grew up watching him kick. You can’t beat a guy with a nickname like “Butthead.” And let’s not forget, he is the ONLY kicker in the College Football HOF. And still holds the record for most points by a rookie, for a certain team that was kinda successful… also, dude used to get into it with the opposing players. I’ll never forget the game where he’s exchanging choice words with Hardy Nickerson. I hope to see him pull off another upset.
Just one criticism… where the hell are Jim Flanigan and Jim Harbaugh? They seem like better picks than players like Anthony Thomas and Ogunleye.
True that
and butthead moved his wedding cause it was going to be on super bowl XX.
I admit to leaving a lot of deserving Bears off the list.
In order to add some comedy, I put grossman & mccaskey in there vs Payton & Halas. Not exactly a fair fight. About a dozen hall of famers were excluded. Harbaugh & suhey were the last guys out.
