Are We Targeting Karlos Dansby Too ?
According to Palm Beach Post Karlos Dansby is yet another target for us in free agency . This seems like a bit of a stretch to me considering how strong we are at linebacker . Pisa Tinoisamoa played well at our strong side linbacker position and would be a cheaper , better option . So why are we interested in a linebacker that will cost in excess of 30 million in guaranteed money ? Could this be our plan for the future or could this be an overcompsenation to make the front office look better to the public for the hike in ticket prices ? Either way is Dansby really what we need ? We already have 2 linebackers making alot of money do we really want to make it 3 ? Heres the link to the story .
My opinion here is this is just wild speculation by the media . While Dansby is a great player he is not what we need to get better as a team . Defensive End and Free Safety are more pressing needs and last I checked Dansby is neither . Could Dansby be the future replacement for Brian Urlacher ? Now thats the only way signing him would make any sense . Dansby is a good middle backer and drops into coverage well . Outside of that this would make very little sense .
Also in a related story its looks like we may spend some money this free agency season . Yea I know us spend money yea right , but according to the Chicago Sun Times the McCaskey's have given Jerry Angelo permission to spend at least 25 million in up front money to secure any free agents we might persue . Could this be ? Is this really going to happen ? Well the buzz around the combine is that we will , I repeat , we will be big players in free agency . If you ask me we really need to be because we've got holes to fill and no draft picks to fill them . So Peppers is seeming like a real possiability . Cross your fingers folks but we may be serious about building a winning team ! Heres the link to the story .

Crazy..I would have never thought that.
Eventhough he would be a great addition, I think he comes too expensive.
Walter Payton lives on!!!
Anyone that voted yes, should HAVE TO explain.
Cause with all the depth we have at LB, there is NO WAY this happens. NO WAY

Not that it would be....
bad to have Dansby playing the Sam, but I don’t see the point in using money that could be used to significantly upgrade other positions (DT, DE, FS, T, G) to upgrade what is arguably the deepest personnel group on the roster. If it wouldn’t effect other signing, the I’d be all for it, but I don’t see that being the case.
In a vacuum it would be a great signing, but the only vacuum I see around he’s is the organization’s pocketbook.

you can never have enough linebackers
or so they say…

Just to be clear
The Bears had the fifth highest payroll in the NFL in ‘09. It’s not whether they spend money, but how wisely they allocate their money.
"The country is full of good coaches. What it takes to win is a bunch of interested players." -Don Coryell, ex-San Diego Chargers Coach
right...lot of wasted money
harris and vasher got good scratch for not doing much. urlacher is also overpaid, but at least he produces when healthy. wale and alex brown were also both overpaid. tillman is a decent CB, but is slightly overpaid (though not ridiculously). basically, the bears seem to reward their own a bit too much, and most importantly, don’t play enough hardball later, like vasher and harris, both of whom should have been forced to restructure their deals or be cut. i mean, if we actually spent harris’ money on a DT who actually produces at an elite level (ie at harris’ 05/06 level, or even slightly below that), we’d be a MUCH better defense.

He's a good ST player
but that doesn’t necessarily translate into good linebacker. Remember Ayanbedejo?

Sorry man but I have to call you out on this.
Pisa Tinoisamoa played well at our strong side linbacker position and would be a cheaper , better option
Really? He played well? I don’t think he stayed healthy long enough to judge that.

I agree with you on this.
But, he has played well and been successful in this system for many years. He hasn’t done squat for us Bears fans yet, but I think he’s more than capable of being a solid contributor on defense. Would Dansby be an upgrade? Yes. Is Dansby a necessity at this point in time? I don’t think so.

No problem ...
…. I think Pisa has played well for us . You look at his pre season and the tiny bit of regular season and he stands out . If he stays healthy he’ll be a force in our defense . Overall he has played well in another cover 2 system and was well on his way to a great season before the injuries in the Green Bay game and then again in the Atlanta game .

Still, injuries are a concern with PLT
Two severe injuries in one year is no freak thing, thats a lack of durability. Still, I think the play of Roach and Williams still makes up for it, so no to Dansby.
Linebacker is the least of our worries
Our backups showed that they could admirably do their jobs last year, so I see no reason why we would need more depth at the position
