Revisiting the Anquan Boldin Discussion

If you recall, sometime last year during the draft Jerry Angelo offered up a 2nd rounder for Anquan Boldin.  AZ declined.  We knew at some point either Steve  Breaston or Anquan Boldin would come free.  The Cardinals cannot put that much money into that one spot.

It appears the Cards have decided to go with Breaston.  Keeping track of the Twitter feeds shows that Breason was tendered at a 1st round level.

Also, in the Twitterverse, is this bit that the asking price for Boldin is a third rounder.

So we all pretty much agree, Brandon Marshall isn't going to happen, but Boldin is still a top ranked receiver and is one of the strongest in the league.  The kind of guy Jay Sizzle had been begging for.

Any takers on Boldin or would you rather we stuck it out with the younger more athletic Devin Aromasodu?

If the price is just a third rounder, take Quan

That is an incredibly low price to pay for a physical receiver we are lacking. Have DA start opposite him. In Martz’s offense, DA will still get plenty of balls thrown his way. Still, I’m doubting that ALL their asking for is a 3rd.

I was just talking about this..

just a second ago on the older post. I don’t like the idea of a second round pick from NE for Olsen especially if we only get a second. That plus don’t really trust JA with a second at this point. I love the idea of Olsen for Boldin straight up. We would come out that in really good shape. Our wr corps would be excellent. The only way I would deal with NE is for Logan Mankins and I don’t recall if they franchised him.

lmao!!

“I have to start proof reading what I type” Wow, I am screwing up all over the place. I know what it is, all the possibilities FA could bring us this year. Its like I was ten years old again and Christmas is a day away.

NE

I got a text from my friend that says a deal is Olsen + a 4th for NE 1st round pick. He usually gets all his info from ESPN insider that I refuse to pay for. Has anyone else heard of this potential deal?

that scares the hell out of me...

sounds like a bad deal, especially with JA at the helm.

by monsterman34 on Mar 4, 2010 9:09 AM CST up reply actions

That could be a precursor to something bigger....

Trading Olsen + 4th for a NE 1st would be great if we could then flip that pick and trade it to Denver for Marshall (since he was tendered for a 1st round pick). That’s the only way that trading Olsen makes any sense to me because otherwise it would just be a lateral move considering we originally drafted Olsen with a late 1st rounder. Hopefully JA is thinking somewhere along these lines because if you are going to lose one of the most talented offensive pieces you have, you better be doing it to upgrade another offensive playmaker position.

That would be a nice deal.

They should be able to get an impact player in the 1st round.

For the price ......

…… of our third round pick Boldin is money ! As long as we fix our D through free agency I say make the deal already .

by MidWayMonster54 on Mar 3, 2010 9:04 PM CST reply actions

Do you think they would take our third round pick and only that?

I know what it says, but I can’t see them just taking a third and nothing else. Hell, we wouldn’t even have to use Olsen for him if that is true.

yahmaybe

we could trade olsen for a 2nd and like 5th round pick and use our 3rdronder on boldin and then take a FS in the 2nd round…i got this figured out yo!

Boldin is a tough, physical receiver

Can you really say that about anyone else on this team? No. And for a third round pick? Hell yes, you gotta take that deal immediately

by tommite622 on Mar 3, 2010 9:37 PM CST reply actions

I agree

Boldin is the kind of tough leader our receiving corps needs.

Remember

it’s not just a 3rd pick. He wants a new contract and has said that he wants Fitz money. For a 30 plus reciever who also has injury problems the price keeps getting steeper.

by Jhitt81 on Mar 3, 2010 9:51 PM CST reply actions

What about LG or RT?

I’d rather them sign Bryant at a reasonable cost, and keep their 3rd rounder for an offensive lineman. If they pulled the trigger on Boldin they would most definitely have to trade Olsen. There would be no reason to have him in Martz’s offense since it would be a log jam at wideout.

In addition, what does everyone think about trading Olsen to the Pats, then turn around and sign Watson?

i don't think

watson is a very good blocker either.

Get what Cutler really wants...

I say we just wait to buy out Brandon Marshall next year, we load up on our defense. Get Kampman and than pay off Rolle… Defense will be set with Harris coming back to form and Urlacher back from Injury… Trade Olsen for a early 2nd Rd pick, get a O-lineman. Next year Hester goes back to Punt and Kickoff duties full time, Marshall, D.A., Bennett and Knoxx… Davis is a good enough TE and he has shown great hands…

by suckmyditka on Mar 3, 2010 11:12 PM CST up reply actions

why wouldnt AZ take a 3rd?

This is Boldins last year under contract and they won’t be able to offer him the money he wants after this year. If they don’t move him now they will get nothing when he walks after this season.

And I’d definitely take a 2nd straight up for olsen, you have to look at it from a value standpoint and right now a 2nd round pick is going to be way more valuable than a tight end who can’t block in an offense that uses blocking tight ends.

oh and antrel rolle

Reportedly is lookin for 8 mil a year. Maybe a 3 year 24 mil deal would be good but I wouldn’t want to lock him up past his age 30 season at 8+ a year.

Haha.

Good luck to him with that…

Yeah

Maybe him and his agent should look at his metrics on PFF. Not a chance in hell will a team pay that steep a price.

I think this is wrong.

He was due $8 mil(roster bonus plus salary plus other incentives) this year based on his contract. I don’t think he’s asking for $8 mil a year in a new deal. Safeties don’t make that much. Hell, Polamalu only made $4.3 mil in ‘09. Even with Polamalu injured, Rolle isn’t on his level as a player.

by kingj41 on Mar 4, 2010 11:17 AM CST up reply actions

He will be cut

because the Cards don’t want to pay his salary for this year, but they want to resign him to a longer deal.

by Lester A. Wiltfong Jr. on Mar 4, 2010 11:39 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah, but

asking for $8 mil at the safety position is like asking to not get signed…

by kingj41 on Mar 4, 2010 11:52 AM CST up reply actions

There is a weak market of FA receivers

I would think that teams that are looking to win right now would be willing to pay more than 3rd for Boldin. I haven’t heard any rumors of other teams in pursuit, but you have to think that a team like the Ravens or a team like Panthers would be willing to pay such a price for a good great wide receiver.

Baltimore seems to be going after..

Terrelle Owens pretty hard from what I have heard. I think maybe you put Owens in that good categorie due to where he is at in his career…definitely not great imo.

why not trade

Hester and Olsen for Marshall and say maybe a 4ht or 5th rd pick? That would give us Marshall,D.A. Knox, Bennett, Iglesias.

So the math is...

Boldin = 3rd round pick

Manning = 3rd round pick

If some team wants a good return guy with ST skills and can back up at DB, than the Bears get Boldin by letting him go. Wow…even I can figure that out!

Boldin

I wonder if Arizona would take next years 3rd rounder. It would allow the Bears to plug a hole at WR and still use the draft picks on other needs for this season.

however,

when we get rid of our first and second this year, we won’t have our “normal” first round pick then

If they would take 2011 3rd then IMO we'll have taken them to the cleaners

The great depth of this year’s draft is due to the all the top rated juniors coming out early for a payday before the new CBA. Which will lead to next year’s draft being thinner than usual. So 2011 third is probably equivalent to a 2010 4th. A 4th for Boldin? Yes please, may I have another?
