Is it a new day in Beardom?

I know this may be premature but even if it doesn't happen, I'm proud of them for even trying for a change.

I've said for a couple of weeks I want J. Pep and Chester T.  I never thought we would try and get one of them but both!!!  1st Jay Cutler and a good try with O. Pace & now, playing ball to get J Pep & Taylor.... woooww

for the 1st time during my 20+ year run as a Bear fan, I have never felt as good about the top brass's commitment to winning now.  Is it a new day?  Its the Bears so I can't say yes but hell, I can't say no.

What do you guys think?

Seems like we're the next Washington Redskins

Not exactly a title I want, but it’s a nice improvement from the team that was seemingly unwilling to stretch to win. Hopefully we can devote our pursuits towards players that will actually pan out rather than buying the best team on paper. Peppers is most definitely the biggest question mark. I’m going to be really disappointed if he flakes it in Chicago like some seem to think he might.

only in Beardom

will a guy try to rain on the parade before it fully starts

Dude if you’re a Bear fan at least give it a fair chance to work. If you go into it with a, “I’ll be disappointed if…” mind set, then you’ll be sure to find every little flaw and not enjoy much of the good. Just wait and see 1st, GOSH DAMN

Don't get me wrong

I think it’s fantastic we got these players. I just want to see this team make these big moves for the right reasons. Great teams take these risks, but I hope we take these risks for the right reasons and not just to look good on paper or put people at ease.

I have no problem at all with signing Chester Taylor, nor Malumaleuma. Peppers however carries some amount of risk. But, in comparison to the Redskins, Haynesworth last year to me had much bigger question marks than Julius Peppers, plus last year there was more of a risk of mortgaging away a team’s future under the salary cap, something that isn’t a problem this year. We’re a better team with Peppers on it without a doubt, but there are legitimate concerns that he doesn’t give it his all. We’ll find out for sure, but it was definitely a risk worth taking. If he does work out, our defensive line will be a force to be reckoned with.

My biggest concern is if this sets a trend of desperation to win, and how far they might go to win this year. Trading away Greg Olsen because he doesn’t fit into Mike Martz’s system would really get to me. Martz is looking at a year of coordinating unless he vastly improves the offense (while also assuming Lovie isn’t fired), and to get rid of one of our premier offensive players because he doesn’t fit into this year’s system hardly sets us up to win down the road. But so far, we’re taking the risks we need to take to win. But, they are risks no matter how you look at it. That’s just a fact.

fair enough

but here’s a point for you with Olsen. 1st know that I like Olsen & have not been one to say trade him. However, after today’s signings, we don’t need him like we did 5 hours ago. The D got better and we got one heck of a RB to help the O & a down right good blocking TE. If we can get a 2nd round pick this year for him, ya gotta take it & find a saftey or o linemen as they are needed more than Olsen at this point.

even still

Peppers has a deal that’s less than Haynesworth and he himself seemed to make Chicago his first choice. i agree with you and I myself am a bit nervous but let’s just all enjoy the ride mate and if it backfires horribly, then we all mob up and burn down Halas Hall haha

I am thrilled with Peppers though

My justification for why the Gaines Adams trade was good was because of Marinelli’s presence as our defensive line coach. If anyone could have brought out the best in Adams, it was Marinelli. Peppers I’d argue is built much better than Adams, and is unquestionably more accomplished coming to this team. Each player had tremendous upside, each player had question marks, but there’s no doubt that Marinelli would have made both play to the best of their ability, no matter which of these two fine players ended up on our team this coming year.

The Bears are doing the right thing by constantly going after the best available players at positions with high needs. Sometimes they don’t pan out (see Orlando Pace), but they took a leap of faith trying. First it was Quarterback, then Defensive End, hopefully they’re working towards Safety and Offensive line. I’m incredibly thrilled that this team is pulling out all the stops towards being successful. It’s up to Lovie and co. to translate the front office’s miracle work into real success.

Bears

I think this is the kind of free agency we the fans have been begging for for quite some time now. The Bears are not the Redskins. They don’t just throw money at the biggest name available. That’s what the Skins do. The Bears spent big money this year but it was at positions they needed. Big difference!!

I’m digging this new Bears M.O.

Personally, I hope the Peppers insults keep on coming. The more bad press this signing gets the more motivated Peppers will be. I hope it gets trashed all over the media.

A new day?

Hopefully a new era.

I always turn to the sports section first. The sports page records people's accomplishments; the front page has nothing but man's failures.

I heard that

Good Ole Rod Marinelli had a lot to do with pursuing JPep.
He has been saying this whole time that he needs someone to be the Simeon Rice of his defence, well he has more than that now, he has the Richard Dent of his defence now
