Ryan Clark, could he be our answer?

Ryan-clark-willis-mcgahee_medium

via www.tailgate365.com

Ryan Clark is said to be a Mike Brown type of player, physical and hard hitting.  I don't know if this could be the answer to our FS problem, but I think it is fair to take a look.  Here is his pro stats up to now. Link

I think he would be well worth looking at for the Bears.  The guy hits like a ton of bricks and doesn't get all the recognition due to, well...lets just say he plays next to the best db in the league imo.  Clark had three interceptions in 15 games with 68 solo tackles, 21 assisted tackles..bringing his total tackles to 89 last season.  I like what I see, how about you?

Well

Not as desirable as Atogwe, But is still pretty good.

by DaHamsta on Mar 6, 2010 6:26 PM CST reply actions

I concure .....

….. Atogwe is a better fit for us . He has a well rounded skill set that we really need and desire . Also is knows the Cover 2 system that we run so he is a plug and play type guy where Clark would be learning the system . Clark is more of a big hitter with limited coverage skills .

what's an answere

Right, my bad...first post and I screwed up the word..lol

I want Atogwe first and foremost, but if for some reason we can’t get him…who do we get. Clark’s numbers didn’t look bad at all last season. I don’t know his past as far as inuries, but he did play 15 games last season. I love that he is a big hitter, but that doesn’t tell me anything about his coverage skills. Just wondering what people thought a good backup plan would be if they go the FA route.

Clark is a good safety...

and plays like Mike Brown. However, I see him getting hurt like Brown too. He’s 30 and plays tough, but I see the Bears needing more of a coverage guy to compliment Payne/Alfalfa and Clark has some health issues that don’t help his durability either:

Oct. 26 11:25 AM PT12:25 PM MT1:25 PM CT2:25 PM ET7:25 PM GMT3:25 AM 北京时间-Clark isn’t injured, yet he isn’t sure if he can play in the team’s next game Nov. 9 at Denver. Doctors told him his sickle-cell trait was aggravated by the high altitude in Denver and caused a serious blood disorder. Because of his condition, Clark also had problems playing in Denver while he was with the Redskins in 2005.
Analysis: Clark became ill during an Oct. 21, 2007, game in Denver and spent the night in a Denver hospital. His condition worsened after he returned to Pittsburgh. Clark had to have his spleen and gall bladder removed, and he lost more than 30 pounds before finally regaining his strength.

It wouldn’t be a bad alternative to sign Clark, but Atogwe would be a much better target at this point.

But with caveat that i don’t think he is a “Mike Brown” in terms of skill.

He might have to be the answer

And before that I heard that they were going for Clark because Whisenhunt brings a lot of ex-steelers over.

Agree 100%

but what’s the chances they have enough cash left in the till to get it done. I hope so anyhow.

The Bears need a true FS not a Mike Brown type

Brown was a true FS....

At least he was from 2000-2004. After the achilles injury he wasn’t the same, and the Bears knew it. Switched him to SS. But when he came in the league, he was definitely an FS. He didn’t lose the ability to cover until all the injuries.

Wow, it's almost to long ago to remember but....

We had a set of safeties to be feared back then. Tony Parrish was a true stud at SS, and pre-injuries Mike Brown at the FS……Now those were safeties.

Thats exactly what we need today

A ball-hawking FS who can play in the box and a SS who can lay wood

Some good safeties in the 80s, too.

Gary Fencik!!

One hell of a safety. I don’t remember if Dave Duerson was a safety or a corner? He was really good as well.

Don't forget...

Mark Carrier’s rookie season. 10 INTs and Rookie Def. POTY. He was one of my favs. Big hitter and smart.

rubbed off

he played next to palamalu so maybe some of that magic hard hitting has rubbed off on him.. he certainly has shown signs of being a hard hitter!!

I wouldn't mind seeing us get Chancellor.

Unlike a lot of people on here, I think he could play FS in the NFL instead of SS. I think he matches up well with anyone because of his size and he hits like a ton of bricks. I know his speed wasn’t that good in the combine, but he could make that up with smart play. Last I checked, he is projected to go in the second. How do propose we move up in the draft to get him?

Walter Payton lives on!!!

by monsterman34 on Mar 8, 2010 5:52 PM CST reply actions

Problem is...

not his speed, IMHO. The problem are his coverage skills and his hips. I didn’t like his hips, watching him at the combine on the NFL network, and I have real issues with his coverage skills after watching all of the video I could find on him (I posted some of it, good and bad, on another thread). Those are the reasons I have problems with the idea of drafting him as the answer to FS, though I couldn’t and wouldn’t complain if we picked up Atogwe for FS, and then drafted Kam to compete with Manning and Payne at SS. I think he wins that battle, and sees his first Pro-Bowl within 3 years….

right...

cancelled NFL network a little too early to save on some money, so I didn’t get to see the combine. I should have kept it a couple more months : (

by monsterman34 on Mar 8, 2010 7:46 PM CST up reply actions

On one of the other thread I posted a bunch of video links....

You would have to look to find them, and I honestly don’t have the time tonight to repost, but they show both the good and bad that you get with Kam. This kid will do well in the NFL. I just question whether that will happen if he is locked into the FS spot.

I think I might start posting breakdowns of some of these draft hopefuls that everyone is talking about that will include video tomorrow (as much for my own curiousity as for anyone elses……
