How 'Bout Those Moves the Bears Made!?! - @Kevin_Payne
So yeah... How 'bout them moves the Bears made? Personally, I couldn't be more excited.
We got us a tight end in Brandon Manumaleuna. The dude's real physical and is, without a doubt, gonna be able to take our offense to another level.
Chester Taylor did nothing but good things when he was backing up Adrian Peterson in Minnesota. And before Adrian stepped in, he rushed for well over a thousand yards when he was the Viking's starting running back. With him and Forte sharing the workload, our offense is going to be much more explosive.
Finally, you have our new beast of a teammate: Julius Peppers. I'm sorry, but I just can't say enough about this guy - he deserves a post dedicated to him, alone. I mean, look at him... He's 6' 7", 280 pounds, and can run a 4.4 forty - that's just amazing and, honestly, a little bit scary (HA!). I'm certain he's gonna make our defense, as well as the entire city of Chicago, very, very happy.
As I skim through the words on the web, I can sense that Chicago Bears fans are excited about the new acquisitions, just as much as I am. It's offseason moves like these that REALLY make me excited to get back to practice and work out with everyone. We're taking all the right steps in improving our team, and I honestly believe we're gonna have a good chance doing it this year (and I think you know what I mean by "doing it").

It's nice to see that..
..not only the fans, but the players as well, are excited by these new players coming in. They’re going to be great additions I’m sure. I’m already fired up for next season :)
Hey Kevin
What do you think of Peppers playing in a “one-gap” scheme as opposed to the Panther’s two-gap? Less responsibility means more big plays!
''I'm really not a Facebook or Twitter guy. I'm a prime rib and baked potato guy.'' - Sweet Lou
He had his training season
Last year, Propheteer. Meeks took over as Carolina’s D Coordinator last year and switched them to 1 gap. Peppers had a great year in my opinion learning essentially our “Tampa 2” system under Meeks, a former Colts coach.
Results: 10.5 sacks, 10 QB hits, 33 QB pressures, 15 tackles for a loss, 5 forced fumbles, 5 pass deflections, 2 interceptions and 1 defensive TD. Not counting tackles/assists.
That is a heck of a first year switching systems and I consider it his primer year for us.
aMarvelous season
47 sack, 7 ints, 22 FF, 120 qb hits, 12 FR, and 3 TDs.
Do or do not there is not try-Master Yoda
I didn't realize ....
…. that Peppers ran a 4.4 forty , thats friggin crazy ! Peppers is gonna make somebody ….cough , cough… maybe Kevin Payne … cough , cough …. look real good . But really a 4.4 forty I can’t get over a 6’7" 280 pound guy runnin that fast . Him and Urlacher are gonna be beasts this season !
He is the definition of a freak.
It’s crazy that someone that big can run that fast. What’s crazy is he was awesome at basketball too.
What's crazy is he was awesome at basketball too.
Yes he was a great basketball player. I remember watching him play at NC back when I was in high school.
Hello Kevin!
Omg! My favorite player of all time, Kevin Payne!! How are you?Just gotta ask you 2 questions,if that’s ok?
1. How sure are you that you will start in 2010?
2.Will the Bears play in Super Bowl XLV?
Well, I just wanted to get a chance to talk to you, maybe tell me a little bit about DA BEARS! Anyway hope you can reply, good luck this year and so long!
P.S. I have an autographed picture of you,it is awesome.Hope to get Your Jersey soon!

I am overwhelmed with excitement.
I am pretty confident that the Bears defense will be putting a lot of pressure on opposing qb’s. How much does that help you as a DB in the Cover 2 defense? I am stoked about all three FA signings. Pepper’s is an absolute Beast, Chester Taylor will compliment our run game perfectly, and Brandon Manumaleuna will help open big holes for our RB’s and protect JC. I am ready for football season already!!!
Walter Payton lives on!!!
Yes!!
Favre and Rodgers to be exact!! Not to dismiss all the other qb’s we will be facing, but those two in peticular.
Walter Payton lives on!!!
Kevin.. as a member of the secondary?
How does a healthy Urlacher and the addition of Peppers change what you had to do last year? It seems like you’ll have better help (if brian’s still got his step) in those middle zone coverages and spend less time having to chase receivers around the field.
Blown away!
Cap free year. Limited draft picks. Funds allocated. The right players were targeted. The planets aligned.
Time for you guys to check your ring sizes.

Yes, sir what will you be having to drink this evening?
Ahhh yes, please give me a cup of your finest navy and orange kool-aid please. I have done quite the 180 about this upcoming season.
Just when I think I’m out of it for 2010, they pull me back in!
Like I said in your last thread...
get your receiver’s gloves ready! You’re going to see lots of catchable balls with Peppers and crew bearing down on opposing QB’s…
How would you feel if t OJ Atogwe played with you at FS
You are a hard hitter and Atogwe would let you play in the box more where you could lay some more wood.

And when they holler at someone on the team for making/not making a play, the recipient doesn’t need to be logged on to a WCG game thread to hear them.

We're still a 3rd place team.
Peppers has talent, but he just doesn’t always give 100% on the field. It was a bad investment.
I say we probably go 7-9 again. And to those of you who say I’m a pessimist, everyone was very excited and optomistic when we got Cutler, and look where that got us.
The only time the Mets win is in the offseason.
It was a bad investment.
For our best pass rusher since Richard Dent, with the team/management in a very short window of opportunity? Seemingly as always, I’m going to have to disagree with you.

I say we're second. I don't know how GB will rebound from losing some of its line.
And they really haven’t done much as far as upgrading anything. I know the draft is still to come but I really think that GB is tied with us at least for second. The division overall has improved and I don’t think it’ll be long until it will be the toughest division in the NFC, no more of this NFC East garbage.
Just call me Mr. 3000.
I agree about being second
but I think(shudder) it’s behind GB, not Minn. Green Bay is scary good on offense, they will probably address their OLine in the draft.
Minn is fading on D, age, suspension, question marks, injury, the offensive side fumbles at crucial times, or throws INTs. mostly though, I just can’t fathom putting us behind them since most of their fans are the dregs of society.
Have you ever been to there site? it’s like a gang initiation…from what i’ve read of course(about gang initiations)

Yeah I've been over to the DN before.
I don’t post much, since the majority of them just want to rip on us. But there are a few I can correspond with like an adult, Robert Rence being the first to come to mind. I think all your points about Minny are valid, I was just basing my ranking on Favray coming back, no matter how much I don’t like it, they have a really high powered offense which I think can make up for the aging D. That and i will never say the Packers are #1 at anything except sucking the best.
Just call me Mr. 3000.
I'm just saying
we beat the Vikings with our Dysfunctional team.
The Packers are pretty amazing at sucking though

unless his skills have fallen off as of late he would be a fine addition to the secondary.

I'm not entirely sure...
I really think Zack Bowman could beat him in out…
I would like the pickup though. You really can’t have too many corners…

Disagree
it’s too early to come up with any factual evdience, but Lito is better than Bowman, as of today

Hopefully things wind up better this year.

Things are looking up...
so where else can the Bears add talent? Is Shepard and/or Atogwe a sensible move? What about the o-line? So many questions and so long to wait until the draft. I like the idea of Shepard adding flexibility to the CB rotation. Especially of Peanut runs out of pain killers! I’ll say it again…Payne get out there and win that starting SS position.
IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO FIRE LOVIE!
pain and lots of it
payne needs to put the pain on defense.. win that job dude and play like a wild samoan oh wait thats palamalu..lol
Yes, definitely yes imo.
I did a lot of reading yesterday on this fella, I think he is solid.

Either way, you’ll be winners!
Kevin- Have you told any other players about WGC?
I def. think you should reccomend it to more of the guys =]
Good Moves
I think the Bears made some quality moves this offseason and will be much harder this year to play against. However from a Packers fan point of view the best snag was Chester Taylor he is a beast of a running back that got displaced one of the best running backs ever.
All that being said Jay Cutler is still a so so QB that the Bears gave up way to much for they still should be going after Vick or McNabb. Sadly it will be the QB position that holds the Bears back again this year. (for like the 20th year straight)
That is only sad because the Bears fans are true knowledgable die hard fans that deserve better (unless they are playing the Packers of course) Unlike the rude, manorless, fair weather Vikings fans!!
Good luck this year the NFC North will be a beast can’t wait for the season to start!!!

Wow… I’ve heard a lot in my days but this… well this just takes the cake. How exactly is Vick a QB we should be going after? How exactly is Vick a better QB than Cutler? McNabb is good but he hasn’t won anything either.

lmao
just another dumb packer fan. im sorry, i dont mean to be too disrespectful considering you are giving us a little praise, but Cutler is not a so-so QB. He played like one last year, but he is much much better than Vick or McNabb. Not only that, but if you gave up that much on a QB, your not gonna give up on him after a year. It would just be moronic.
You might wanna drop a few picks on an O-line..
The Bears O-line showed improvement in the last quarter of the season. The same can’t be said for the Packers line, and their jobs just got alot harder.
Adrian Pedestrian!! Now that's funny Mr. Bayless...
Monsters of the MIDWAY once again!
I want to see Grossman start when we play Washington this year. that would be a great experience when we have Harris, Peppers, Urlacher, and Briggs coming at him. This should be a devastating year for our Defense.
