how do you know?
How do you know Jerry wasn’t grinding his brain and breaking the bank to get this guy?
It all comes down to we didn’t have enough fire power to match two second rounders
Do or do not there is not try-Master Yoda
Or
They thought the receivers already on the roster were good enough thus explaining the lack of effort to bring in an experienced receiver

Hey man
if Martz thinks that the recievers will be fine, then I believe him.
He has a lot more experience doing this than either of us do, or anyone on this site for that matter.
You have to understand that the Bears can’t trade for or sign every good player that comes available. Who’s to say that we didn’t offer Marshall an offer and he didn’t want to play in Chicago?
But it all comes down to the fact that the Broncos wanted two second rounders or something of equal value, and in order for the Bears to do this they would have had to package their 3rd and possibley a player this eyar and their second rounder next year.
Why would they do that when they are already short on draft picks, next year’s draft class will be one of the best in recent years, and the potential player they would need to trade would have to be one of our better ones seeing as the Broncos would need to find value in him.
This trade just doesn’t make sense in context.
Would i love to see Brandon Marshall in a Bears uniform, catching passes from Jay Cutler? Hell yeah i would. Do i think they should have traded the house to try and quire him? No. Not one bit.
Good job by the Bears’ FO on this one
Do or do not there is not try-Master Yoda
im glad he ended up in miami if he wasnt coming here...
I like Miami. I would still like to add a reciever. We don’t exactly have the healthiest bunch of recievers. Is Ginn as bad as his highlight reel? The few times I saw him he looked pretty bad. I think we should bring someone in, but not for a ransom.

Ginn is just
terrible….Not abad return man, but he can’t catch for crap
Do or do not there is not try-Master Yoda
I see your point but
Who’s to say any of the FO and coaching staff will be around next year? And I don’t buy that marshall would have turned down an offer to play with cutler and play in martz’s offense? I’m more inclined to think the broncos turned down a fictitious offer but let’s agree to disagree. Go Bears
by frenchbears113 on Apr 14, 2010 8:05 AM CDT up reply actions
Yeah but that's because
he gave away a 2nd rounder for the late Gaines Adams. This wasn’t bad because he unfortunately died, but because he could’ve waited and got Gaines in the offseason. Miami got Marshall for a 2nd rounder this year and next year. Angelo should’ve lost his job for that move alone.

Even if we offered the same deal.......
They would of refused it.Do you imagine the press and the publicity blow back if they would of traded there 2 best players to the same team in 2 years! No way Jose, this would never happen……

They would have refused it. Can you imagine the press and the publicity blowback if they would have traded their 2 best players to the same team in 2 years?
Or, for that matter, how many more idiots we would’ve had coming over to tell us how rubbish Brandon Marshall is without Kyle Orton throwing to him…..

From the Sean Jensen article on Harris
Harris:
‘I feel I owe this game because I’m a premier player, and I didn’t play like one last year,‘’ Harris told the Sun-Times. ’’So I’m doing everything in my power to make up for everything that happened last year.‘’
Jensen:
Harris wasn’t satisfied with his performance last season, even though he was slowed by a knee injury. But he insisted he won’t use injury as an excuse
Harris:
‘’The biggest thing is, every good player has a drop-off, and it’s how you come back from that,‘’ he said. ’’It’s going to mean so much more to me when I come back from this.’’
Question
Was this article and quotes written in 2007, 2008 or 2009?

Have to stay positive
The talent is still there, but who knows about how his knee feels.

He's looking ahead to his next contract so his knee should start feeling better
He’ll still need to keep up his not practicing though.
USED to be a premier player, he means.
But maybe Peppers will draw enough heat to let Harris sniff the QB a little more this year.
For US $40 million, I hope he’ll do more than just sniff the QB (for the love of Ditka, there’s no need to photoshop this, smudgers)…..

How about...
Inhale deeply the smell of fear generated by pressuring the QB? I don’t care much about sacks, but hits and hurries are huge. $40 mil ought to buy that at least.
Anyone who thought the Bears had a snowball chance in hell
of getting marshall was delusional

I totally agree. Fans behave as if free agent WRs are lining up to come to the Bears and are willing to give the team a discount.
Besides, probably half the teams need, and would love to have, a player with Marshall’s abilities. Let’s face it, he’s a tremendous player with serious personal issues that could blow up at any time. Since when have players of that sort flourished with the Bears?

I can’t wait til Favre makes up his mind. Hopefully he leads them on as long as he can again. That team with Rosenfels or Jackson just pales by comparison.

Yeah it was a good article
but I still thought some of it was a little too much (maybe I am just too much of a Bears homer). I think that neglecting to mention Cutler’s improvements over the last 2 games was a bit of a miss. I was going to join to post that (and this video to remind them) but membership doesn’t start for a day. And now that I think about it, that’s probably for the best. I don’t need to be a rabble rouser.

Well, they didn’t mention our overtime win (which, if I’m realistic, owed a lot to their playcalling in the first half) but the article did say Cutler’s too talented not to shine, and that we could potentially set records with the Martz offense (yardage & TDs / ints & sacks, “possibly both”).

They didn’t mention how good he was in that, I should have said. I do wonder if he didn’t start changing the plays that Ron Turner called, as Jim McMahon used to do back in the day, in the last couple of games.

Son of a...
LM: Do you see the Bears upgrading the safety position in free agency or the draft, or would you be comfortable starting the season with players currently on the roster?
JA: Right now we would be comfortable starting with the present cast of players at the position. We looked at a veteran safety, but we felt that we wanted to pass on that. We just didn’t feel the timing was right. So we’ll just wait and see. Again, you’re not going to field a Pro Bowler at every position, and you don’t have to. The players that we presently have we feel good about. But we always want to create competition and better depth

I suppose that any recognition of the fact that our secondary gave up 28 passing TDs last season (according to the Norseman article), and that we’ve been missing effective safety play for so many seasons despite sort of addressing the need in the draft for so many consecutive years, would be tantamount to admitting that his drafting has been appalling, as per the Brad Biggs link above.
Why that should be given that he’s a former scout (and therefore, one would assume, knows something about evaluating personnel), I would love to know.

drafting a safety or DB
in the 4th 5th 6th or 7th round, should not be considered addressing a need.

Algae! how many td's did he catch last year?
Dez Clark is better than him. So are the rest of out TE’s. The Bears are saying how much they are in love with Olsen. When a team says that, that players is on the block. I like Olsen but if we can get a stud FS I say DO it. Otherswise, we need to keep him and watch him catch 10 td’s this year.
by Ryan21 on Apr 14, 2010 4:43 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
How about Olsen for Otogwe?
I could see it happening. The Rams will take a QB for sure, so they’ll want someone for their shiny new toy to throw to.
but we need a pro bowler at every DL position....
he similarly neglects the WR corp. 6th round secondary v. a 5th wrs practice against each other. no wonder they do not improve.
Whathe said is true.
We won’t have a Pro Bowler everywhere but A PRO BOWLER (LB) asked for a Vet FS.
Something to Think About
I just realized we are playing the AFC East this year, which now means we face Randy Moss, Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards AND Brandon Marshall. And JA said that FS isn’t something he’s overly concerned about?!
