What can the Bears actually do with no picks in the 1st 2 rounds?
The NFL draft is almost upon us and everyone has their opinions on what the Bears will/should do. It's part of the excitement the drafts brings.
As we all know or for some who dont know, Every pick in the draft has a "value" and a numerical number that goes with it. For instance the 1st overall pick has a value of 3000 points and theoretically any trade of draft picks for that 1st overall pick would have to equal that number. The Bears have pick 75 which is valued at 215 points, pick 109 =76pts, 141=35.5,181=19, and 218 =4.2. That is what we have to work with in this years draft.
I Included the pick value chart so you can check it out and come up with your own scenarios of what you would do to move up and pick the best safety possible.

2 things
1. Can you source where you got the chart from?
2. They can chill out for a while and watch other teams overpay.

I've used that chart in a few posts
Here’s a link to one – LINK!
I used it to explain why the Bears did not overpay for Cutler. As seen here. And that was before the value of Johnny Knox was established as pretty good.

Foolish man.
I don’t read your posts. Too many words and well thought out explanations, not enough screaming that the team has a billion dollars and should overpay everyone.

OVERPAY!?!?!
wtf Kev H!? put down the Lovie Koolaid (its ok if smudgers runs with a lovie koolaid man photo).
1st and 2nd round rookie contracts are some of the best values and the best talent.
Play Golf???
or watch the drunken Jerry jones video over and over…
" We get off the bus running! What do you mean we are a passing team? you don't agree with how I do things? You're fired!"
- Lovie Smith-
Isn't it crazy that someone
named Tom Brady was basically a “20” point pick and Jamarcus Russell was 3,000…

- Lovie Smith-
Sean Jensen article in today’s Den points out that this year’s 2nd round draft picks are likely to be valued slightly higher than usual, given the deep nature of this year’s draft class. Trading up is, therefore, going to be prohibitively expensive in terms of what we could package for it.

Honestly if we're gonna trade up ....
…. we need to go all in and trade into the first round and grab a top tier player . Maybe not Berry due to he’ll be taken high but Earl Thomas would be nice .

The old Jimmy johnson trade chart.
I have read alot of articles about how they have(or should) adjusted that chart becasue it over values the higher first round picks due to the outragoues contracts they are getting and the lack of desire to trade up for them.
The Bears can save money...
and finally not waste another draft pick on an underachieving DE. If Hester or Olsen could be traded for a high 2nd rounder, it might be worth it, but I really do not see this draft as one to trade up. IMO, a trade has to get the best guy available; not just a “better” guy. So if Berry and Mays are near impossible to trade up to get, why trade what talent you do have for 3rd or fourth best prospective talent? Although I get the sense that JA/Lovie are cooking up something, I hope they sit tight, draft some quality depth and go get Atogwe.
IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO FIRE LOVIE!
You're missing the point...
It’s not really about the specific players per se, it’s about trading up (or trading away talent) to get the 3rd/4th/5th ranked prospect. That makes little sense. IMO, it’s better to overpay for vet FA, at least you know what you are getting for the most part. And IF you are trying to trade up, it had better be for a good reason; like the best (insert position here) in the draft who is very likely to solidify that position for the next 5-10 years.

Like someone else said, drink and wait.
Then watch JA draft an unknown project at DE from a school we’ve never heard of. Like a reliable clock, he’ll then take an unheralded SS-type and say he has the skills to be our new FS.

Wouldn't be shocked
But I’d definitely be pissed, that’s for sure.
Chevelle and Three Days Grace??? Fuc*ing AWESOME!!!
Ditto
I have a really bad, eery feeling like it’s going to be groundhog day again in the Bears draft room. I hope not, but it wouldn’t shock any of us.

He should draft Olin's replacement
You can get a stud center in round 3 (just ask Olin). High time to do so.
I think we can wait on that.
We have more pressing concerns for this season.

Gotta agree with Polish ....
….. on this one . We really need a FS more than a center in the third round . Eric Olsen will be there in the 4th and maybe even the 5th and he would be a great pick up in either of those rounds.

Thinking too much
most good players in the NFL are drafted in the 3rd-5th rounds. No, I don’t have proof or the time to look it up but I’m sure of it. Maybe one of our research gurus on the board can find my proof or prove me wrong. Great college players don’t make great or even good pro players quit often. Examples:
Enis
McKnown
Terrell
Hell even Reggie bush hasn’t done anything of note in the league.
Bottom line, don’t put too much into where our picks lie. 54 & 91 are our only high draft picks that have made the pro bowl a few times. Thats the case with most teams
Hear Hear
on that but Reggie Bush has made a pretty significant impact. he’s their Devin Hester, he has to be accounted for constantly, he’s pretty dynamic.
he just doesn’t fill the typical #1 position role, he’s a great fill in, rotational player, thats why NO picked up his 9 million roster bonus this year

Buuuutttt
Reggie Bush was a top 5 pick. Hester was in the 2nd round.
Do or do not there is not try-Master Yoda
however, you can’t plug hester in everywhere and watch him flourish. you can with Reggie… as would be expected a top 5 pick

Bush isn't a bum
but Huston did the right thing picking M. Williams
I would say
most elite players are drafted in the first round, but most starters are drafted in the middle rounders. There are lots and lots of exceptions to both, especially on the Bears, who are one of, if not the worst in the league at picking in the first round.
DEJESUS!!!
I would have to say Detroit and Oakland at least are worse than Chicago in the first round. A lot of teams have failures where the Bears usually pick in the middle of the first round. Very few have the number of failures at the high picks Detroit and Oakland have had. And if you go back several years the Bengals would fit into that as well although they have improved greatly recently. Basically all you have to do is look at records to see who drafted poorly in most cases.
I would argue
they do so bad with early 1st round picks because they seemingly have more high 1st rd picks than anyone else. On a percentage bases, I bet the’re not too much better or worse than the rest of the league
panic when they realize that the draft is today
show up
realize the have no picks
realize they have no idea who they are going to pick
sign on WCG
