Do you think the Bears should go after Faneca ?
After not really upgrading the OL in the draft, do you think the Bears should go after Alan Faneca, or do you think he is not that good anymore? I think he's worth a shot, and the Jets still have to pay him over 5 mil, so it shouldn't cost too much, or do you think Jerry Angelo will sit this one out, due to the disaster last year with Orlando Pace ? I think we could use him.

Save the money
…and go after OJ Atogwe…they certainly trimmed enough fat by cutting Pace, Vasher, and Brown (good guy but iffy contract I guess).
Far as I know the guy still has yet to sign with the Rams…though I wish they would’ve drafted a FS (could’ve foreshadowed the chance they might part ties with the guy).
Signing Atogwe nmakes a lot more sense than the declining Faneca
I always turn to the sports section first. The sports page records people's accomplishments; the front page has nothing but man's failures.

The Rams did add secondary help in the draft
…though at the CB position (though I guess they possibly might convert the kid)…plus they added another S at the FA level (the guy’s name escapes me though).

But cutting Pace, Vasher, and Brown
We just managed to pay for Peppers, we can’t afford to bring anyone else in that will be expensive.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.
Hey we originally couldn't afford any FAs
according to Ted Phillips…after Peppers AND Tayor/Mannumeula I think the Bears are sending a message regarding Atogwe that they are making room with their money regarding the talented FS (with the cuts they made)…I will believe you maxwellsdemon if nothing happens AFTER June 1st.

Wow
I think you are the first person to fully spell out that name. But good point, but I suppose this is a make or break season for the staff, so maybe they aren’t afraid to spend it all.

Thanks
though I may need a spell check on that. I think we both maybe right…I get the feeling it may be 50/50 chances we get Atogwe. However, the more time passes where the Rams don’t give him a contract the more I feel like he’ll be cut and at least we’ll have a chance when he’s a FA.

No.
Most think he’s done. And he didn’t have a very good year last year. Did we learn nothing with the Orlando Pace signing?

Exactly....
PFF rated Faneca 67th among OG’s last year at a -9.2 overall rating, compared to Garza’s 5.5, Beekman’s 0.0 and Omiyale’s -6.5 and even in run blocking, Faneca (0.8) only narrowly beats out Garza (-0.7) and isn’t as good as Beekman (1.8) or Omiyale (3.0).
Idon’t see Ruben Brown in Faneca. I see Orlando Pace…….

Omiyale
Had a couple of big runs run through his hole last year. He didn’t really ever get a consistent run block.
Good observation ddub101
Though I find your first sentence unintentionally funny in a 1st grader mind-set kind of way.
IMO...
I know he had a not so great year last year, but he was blocking for a rookie QB, who seemed to hang on to the ball a little too long…IMO

We probably don't have too much more money to spend
so anything we have should be placed towards landing a veteran FS.

No.
At 33 years old, the guy is a dinosaur. Like Lester said, we should have learned from the Pace signing. I think Jared Gaither is discussed in another thread somewhere. He would be a much better option.
The only time the Mets win is in the offseason.
Another player to keep in ...

That time has passed...
Faneca would have helped bridge the gap at LG while a Beekman or other draftee was being developed 2 or 3 years ago when the Steelers let him go. Now it would only make sense if they had drafted an OG and wanted a 1 year stop gap.
IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO FIRE LOVIE!
The Jets are in full force "try to win a SuperBowl right now" mode
And they don’t want Faneca…
I’ll trust their opinion…
