Actually

When has JA drafted a LB in the first round? I don’t believe he has, and usually does his work from rounds 3-5.

Thats right

he didnt draft urlacher, and every other linebacker has been a later round guy

If the Bears were to pick at 10 next year

JA won’t be making the pick, or at the least he won’t be making the pick for a Lovie coached team.

"I was interviewing George Halas and I asked him who is the greatest running back you ever saw. And he said, 'That would be Red Grange.' And I asked him if Grange was playing today, how many yards do you think he'd gain. And he said, 'About 750, maybe 800 yards.' And I said, 'Well, 800 yards is just okay.' He sat up in his chair and he said, 'Son, you must remember one thing. Red Grange is 75 years old.' - Chris Berman

I knew this trade was going to create huge smiles in the locker room

That may be the most important intangible of getting Harris back… the rest of the defense missed him so much.

Thanks a lot for wanting to replace him in the first place Lovie:(

Confident Briggs

About the re-acquisition of Harris. Kind of weird, but he was better against the pass than the run. I hope he can improve and be a good defender in the box.

And we replaced him with a guy (AA)

Who was supposed to be a LB-type against the run. It was a huge drop-off in performance in both areas: coverage and run support.

Now... the bad.

If you’re gonna play the blame game, and fire everyone but yourself. Don’t bring in your buddy Tim Ruskell to replace them…. his draft record sucks just as much as yours does.

Has anyone looked at Seattle’s drafts? How do you think they’ve gone from SB contenders to chumps?

my thought...

is that Jerry waited to hire Ruskell until after FA and the draft so that if everything turned out for the good, he could take the credit, should they succeed.

> If the decisions are a bust and the team fails, he’s likely out anyhow.
> If he makes the decisions and they succeed, he can take the credit (extension, anyone?).
> If he brings in Ruskell and they succeed, who gets the credit?

So, there’s no real lose for him this way. It’s all speculation, I know, but it makes sense to me.

I just looked over Seattle's drafts under Ruskell

Here’s the link if anyone is interested (2005-09 are Ruskell’s drafts) They do look very similar to Angelo’s: Lots and lots of D-Linemen, few early round OL. Ruskell’s best draft looks t be ’06 when he got Jennings, Sims and Tapp but now two of those guys are starting for other teams (that could be more of the regime change than their talent though). But he definitely is conservative, taking the safer positions early such as LB, CB, DT, DE and FB while waiting to take the hit/miss positions like RB and WR until later.

Bears offseason schedule

Does anyone have any idea what the offseason schedule looks like? Or a site I can find that info? I know the Rookie Minicamp starts tomorrow. I’m just wondering when training camp starts.

Wright to wear #27

Other rookie numbers:1 5 LeFevour, 31 Moore, 73 Webb and 98 for Corey Wootton.

This isn't as bad as calls for Holt.

My question is, can Furrey still perform? If so, and if he knows the system well, it could be good – getting a capable receiver who has experience with Martz and maybe who can pass some of that knowledge along during the season. This year is gonna be a little wacky I think, not knowing if Martz/Lovie will be around for more than one year but installing a complex passing attack anyways.

Plus, the Bears get another safety!

WTFurrey?

The Bears are like a dog with a bone about bringing in a “veteran” receiver. To bring Furrey in and take catches from any receiver already on the roster makes no sense. Last season was the break-in period for Cutler and the wide-outs. With that out of the way, the current WRs and Jay should be a little more cohesive and ready to put up the numbers we expected when we brought him in.
