Steve Sabol names the greatest players in NFL history, in his opinion.
Steve Sabol gives us his opinion of the top NFL players in history in various categories. While risking accusations of Bear favoratism, he speaks the truth in naming three iconic Bears in three of the most important categories. Recognizing his expertise as someone who pored over all gamefilms for 48 years composing the highlight and historical reels that made the NFL what it is today, I doubt that many here at WCG would argue with his picks.

On Butkus
A force of unmanageable proportions, he was Moby Dick in a goldfish bowl

It's a stretch but I like it.
If Mike Ditka punched you in the face, you'd have to fight off the urge to thank him.

Steve Sabol crystalized...
my thoughts on Walter Payton. Payton, IMO, is the greatest all-around player I have ever seen play. He epitomized the will and desire to make every possible play something more than it should have been. I admire many people throughout history, but Walter Payton is a true hero of mine. I was fortunate enough to grow up down the street from him and I got to know him as a real person beyond the football player.
Sabol says it correctly:
Jim Brown was the greatest ball carrier, but no one ever played the position of running back as completely as Payton.

Steve Sabol
basically echoes what all Bears fans wear on their sleeves everyday. our players will always be the greatest, because they played lights out.
Butkus won DPOY on a team that won 1 game… unreal.
and what he says about Sayers versus Sanders was on the money.
Barry made moves that were indescribable. Sayers had moves that were unimaginable.
that right there to me, also sums up why Sayers is HOF and T. Davis isn’t.

Walter Payton is the greatest football player to ever play the game.
In the 8th grade Mike Ditka won his school's Science Fair with a model of a working volcano. There were 17 other working volcano's made that day, but only one named Mount Ditka.

This is, without a doubt, the best Peter King column ever.

Pretty awesome.
Erma Bombeck once said, “If a man watches three football games in a row, he should be declared legally brain dead.” I say, “What a way to die.”

Come on HOF!!!
Best Player Not In the Hall Of Fame: Jerry Kramer
Jerry Kramer and Richard Dent should’ve been in years ago!
Umm, I think maybe
you meant to post that over here. I’m pretty sure it’s unacceptable to call for that kind of thing on a Bears site. Let them fight their own injustices, if they can put down the Milwaukees Best and inferior dairy products long enough to make an effort.

I understand
You did notice that Richard Dent was in bold and Kramer was not. I’m not saying I started talking kramer, just to mention Richard Dent and how the HOF has snubbed Dent so terribly. I do find both players deserving, especially 4x Pro Bowler, 4x All-Pro, 5x All-NFC, 2x Super Bowl Champion and Super Bowl XX MVP Richard Dent.
Did I mention Richard Dent’s 137.5 career sack total?

A: So no one could put a DENT in it.

"A lot of fans were drawn to me because they knew that whatever the score was, I was going to run as hard as I could on every play. You don't have that now, you have guys waiting for next week or even next year." - Walter Payton
