Cowherd says "No Chance" to the Bears and 14 others
I'm a fan of Colin Cowherd, of ESPN Radio & Sports Nation
I listen nearly everyday. For me, he is right on with his opinion about 90 to 95 percent of the time (other than his opinions on movies & music, which is dead wrong about 95% of the time). Yesterday was one of those misses for Colin.
He stated that there were fourteen NFL teams that have no, I repeat, no chance to win the Super Bowl.
Those teams are:
Tampa Bay Bucs
Jacksonville Jags
San Fran. 49er's
Now, no chance to win the Super Bowl is harsh, but a fact for many of these teams.
Those with no chance would be: St. Louis, Tampa, Buffalo, Kansas City, Detroit and Oakland
I'll give everyone else a chance. Some teams not a good chance, but a chance.
In fact I think San Fran., Tenn., and Arizona can be playoff teams. Along with Chicago in particular, too much potential to write these teams off.
What do you think? Is Colin on or off? Am I on or off? Do you give the Bears a chance or no chance to win the big one this season?
Update: Colin spoke to Ken White (whom is a big odds maker in Vegas), on his show today. Colin had a list of four College Football teams and four NFL teams, that he felt Vegas missed badly on (early over, under on total wins).
Ken and Colin agreed on every team except the Bears. Whom are at an 8. Colin said he thought the Bears will win around five. Ken on the other hand, thought the Bears could win ten. And maybe more if the offense has a good year.

I think Colin is a little overzealous...but,
I don’t think the Bears will will or even make it to the Superbowl this year. I would love to be proven wrong, but I feel that they will end up 10-6ish, fighting for a wildcard spot. I think with an exit in the first or second game of the playoffs.
I would love to say 14-2 and homefield through the playoffs, but the last few years have made me a little gunshy on making overly optimistic predictions. However, I would love for the Bears to prove me(and Colin) wrong and win the whole damn thing!
Unreasonable people make life difficult...
This is something I ask anyone who says things like what you posted
if we are 10-6, and manage a wild card spot. why can’t we make the superbowl?
If you are a playoff team, you are a superbowl contender, case closed.

Not too long ago
I heard on ESPN radio how the White Sox had no chance of making the playoffs and people can start counting them out…it is radio and opinion
No chance?
Not exactly, but the Bears are a long shot. The odds do not favor them making the playoffs, but I hope to be proven wrong. I think the defense more so than Martz’s offense will determine how far they go.

I agree......
As much as everyone is focusing on the offensive improvement, I’d say the defense is where the real season-deciding plays will be made.

Indeed
Alot of question marks surrounding the D. I’m a huge Lovie fan but if his defense fails this year he’s got to go. As much as I would’ve liked to see Fewell as our DC, I got excited hearing Marinelli in the rookie minicamp series. I think he brings a fire to the D we haven’t seen since Rivera’s time here.
WILDCARD BITCHES!!! YEEEEHHHAAAAA!!!!!
ESPN needs to check on their staff...
Clearly Cowherd missed the memo that golden boy Tim Tebow is on the Broncos, and for that alone, I’m surprised no one on the Booyas is predicting Tebow to lead the Broncos to 16-0 and a Super Bowl domination because hey, it’s what Tebow did in college. ;-)
In serious though, it’s preseason and people will say some dumb stuff, but there’s definitely some teams in that list that shouldn’t be (like our Bears; if you’re in the playoffs, you can be a contender.).

I think sports commentating
is the only place you can make wild predictions and be wrong most of the time, yet people still listen to you. Sports news is fast and comes everyday, so if you are wrong, oh well no one will remember more than 1 or 2 of them because it is on to the next.
Just like the weather anchors, just say 50/50 chance of rain and increase your accuracy.
It would be great to see the accuracy of some of these sports commentators, see how many they actually hit on.
He used to claim 60% accuracy.
But Colin Cowherd was awful last year. I personally don’t have action on the games (unless you count fantasy), but being a listener of his show, it was remarkable how often he missed.
I wonder if he had the Saints as a no chance to win last year?

I honestly do not remember
The Saints though, along with the 99’ Rams (hmm.. who was their OC?), the Patriots when they beat the Rams (hmm… who was their OC & DC?), are perfect examples of teams that seemingly come out of nowhere and win the Super Bowl.
And the Bears really aren’t coming out of nowhere. If Peppers, Harris, Urlacher and Briggs all play to potential. Other offenses will be in deep sh**!
Everyone has a chance when everyone is 0-0.
Luck and injuries are two factors that you simply cannot predict beforehand. Since both have a huge impact over 16 games, I don’t think you can reasonably say that any team has NO chance. Unless you get paid to blow hot air be a sports commentator and just aim to generate some chatter.
Wasnt it in 2005 when.....
Sports illustrated or someone picked the bears to finish the worst i the league? That very year the bears almost broke the record for fewest points allowed and went 11-5 to win the NFC north….
I see us in the 9-11 win neighborhood as long as we are healthy
The only time they missed worse was when Peter King predicted they'd win the Super Bowl last year and that Lovie would be Coach of the Year.
Show’s how much the “so called” experts know. Even the most crazed Bear fan didn’t really believe that was possible.
I did except for the second part
i beleive they can and will win every year

It's a long shot...
but I wouldn’t have given New Orl much of a chance to make the playoffs last season either. I do worry that the Bear defense is mostly a paper tiger with a poorly conceived and executed scheme. The offense could be great or just a little better. IMO, I do not see this team getting to the playoffs but being close. I think another coach and a few players could make this team SB contenders, but this year is more about finally ridding the Bears of the Lovie Smith version of Tampa2. I hope I’m wrong because my liver cannot take another mediocre season of 7-9, 8-8 or 9-7.
IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO FIRE LOVIE!
Cowherd doesn't like Chicago...period.
Cowherd also said before the start of last season that Dallas WR Roy William would be an absolute fantasy gem.
playoffs
i know its early and we are all speculating, but if these guys where making a living, betting wise they would all be in the gutter.her is a prediction of mine. we make the play-offs as a wild card, and we end up playing the 49ers for the Hallas trophy at san fran
i have ended up playing the niners
in the nfc championship the last two years in madden franchise mode.

EVERY TEAM
every season, has a chance to win a Super Bowl. This list is moronic.

Except the Raiders...
Everyone, but the Raiders. Even fate conspires against them, on the off chance they are worth anything on a given year.

Coach Cable disagrees
he is telling anyone who will listen that the Raiders will be playoff contenders. After all, they have Jason Campbell now, who can stand in their way?

They will be much improved
that team was alot more competitve than people gave them credit for, when russell was under center …..good lord was he awful. Gradkowski gave that team some fire and Jason Campbell is VERY underrated i live in DC this guy caught alot of flack when no one looked at the revolving doors on the coaching side, the lack of playmakers and a bloody awful offensive line

I remember listening to Cowherd
when the Lions hired Marinelli, and boy, did he SLOBBER on Marinelli—how tough he was, how awesomely old school, how inspiring and motivational, how he was going to turn the Lions right around and make them contenders THAT year.
Hell, he talked up Marinelli’s hiring so much, and so effectively, that I was actually WORRIED about the Lions that year!
So, not saying he was wrong on Marinelli’s character, but—clearly—he got it wrong on his impact.
All that is to say—Cowherd’s a Bear-hating boob, and he doesn’t know what the fudge he’s talking about. He should stick to predicting college ball.
always good to see you drop some knowledge

I wouldn't say Bear hating, but Bear jabbing... Absolutely!
Probably because of the size and passion of the Bears fan base.
Colin knows that a outlandish negative comment towards the Bears = Backlash hate mail & phone calls
Both good things for Colin.
LMAO, but your right about Marinelli and your right about his NFL knowledge in comparison to his College Football knowledge. Dude eats crow seemingly every week on NFL games.
Cowherd's rant on Grossman is still fun to listen to.

I agree with you on the teams that can make the playoffs.
Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan [I have always lived in Arizona, dad is from Chicago].
I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.
How many of you actually listened to that rant the other day???
Yes it’s me your favorite Lions fan back for another round of witty banter. Now Mr. Dent you should have put WHY dumb ass cowherd said that your Bears and my Lions had NO chance at winning the SB. Our 2 teams have 2 of the better QB’s in the league on their rosters and our division does not have the easiest of schedules outside of our division. He said something along the lines of with Cutler you have an inconsistant QB who is going to have to learn 1 of the hardest offencive schemes in the game, and that the Bears don’t have a proven #1 WR as of yet. then you look at the Vikes and the Pack and they have playoff ready teams (at least last year) and an up and coming team in Detroit who is not going to go 0-6 in the division this year. It’s not like he slammed the bears any harder than he slammed the other 13 teams that he said had NO CHANCE. But as a Sports Jock he picked the “pretty horses” like the Colts/Saints ect. ect. ect. teams that seem to be in the playoff picture every year or have a “lights out” QB like Rivers/Little Manning/Rogers. I know how you guys feel about Cutler and you know how much crap I gave you all last year about him; by the way I was right(more INT’s than TD’s) and with learning a new system AGAIN this year he is more likely to do the same but with more yards tacked on to the bottom line. Not trying to slam Cutler but he is now learning his 2nd system in as many years with young wide outs and I can’t see him doing any better than a certain Lion did in this offence in his first year cause if him and those WR’s are not on the same page you are looking at pick 6 multiple times this year and that is just going to make Martz want to throw even more.
How many lumps you want Doc?
No, you were not right.
Cutler had more TDs than INTs. He threw 27 TDs and 26 INTs. You must have had his stats confused with Stafford, who had 13 TDs and 20 INTs in only 10 games……..

Contrary to popular belief
the Bears WRs are a strength and will break out this year. Speed, speed, and some more speed will be the theme for the season. The predictability of Ron Turner’s offense had a ton to do with why Cutler threw so many picks. Did he make a lot of mistakes out of shear desperation? Absolutely. It’s concrete fact that Martz will dramatically improve an inherited offense in his first season. Interceptions will happen, but more importantly, will the offense offset those mistakes with more points? It’s my belief that they will because of the young talent at the skill positions. Also remember, the offensive line was very good in their final 4 games or so in the regular season, because everyone was at the natural position. My predication on opening day- Peppers will have 3 sacks against your piddly offensive line. Cutler will benefit by tossing 3 Tds and over 300 yards.
"In order to have a winner, the team must have a feeling of unity; every player must put the team first- ahead of personal glory" - motivational sign at Halas Hall.
Go back to your den...
First of all Jay did not have more int’s than td’s, 27 td’s to 26 int’s, so we know you can’t count, second of all, you have to take in perspective the fact that his wr gave up on their routes or ran the wrong routes last year, something that will change with more experience and time with Jay, third of all, Jay is probably the smartest qb that Martz has ever worked with as far as learning a system, look how he learned last year, that Turner had no idea how to run an offense, and let’s not forget that his top rb was injured most of the season, which put alot more pressure on him. And don’t forget the most important fact of last year, our defense, our defense was so plagued by injury last year, that the offense had to play catch up for most of the year. Well our defense is healthier, we have a big time pass rusher now, our mlb, although getting older, is still one of the better mlb in the league, is back, and our safety position improved, when we got Harris back. So putting injuries aside, I see no reason why this Bears team can’t be a playoff team, maybe not win our division, but a wild card team for sure.
What were they thinking?
by touchdown bears on Jul 31, 2010 7:40 AM CDT reply actions
This is nonsense
I’d add the Titans to the list of contenders. They did have a long winning-streak after starting terribly.

right.....
It’s like everyone forgot how good the team looked in the second half of the season. The Titans could challenge for the wildcard, if not more.
