Professional Sports Championships in Chicago

XFINITY from Comcast has generously agreed to support the best NFL community around -- us! As part of that effort, between now and the end of the 2010 NFL season XFINITY will be sponsoring a variety of special editorial and interactive features on our site.

Being in one of the largest sports markets in the world has its perks, like bragging rights when it comes to stockpiling championships.  You don't have to look very far in any direction in Chicago to know what I'm talking about.

Let's take a quick look at championships won by professional sports teams in Chicago:

Star-divide

Chicago Bears: 1921, 1932, 1933, 1940, 1941, 1943, 1946, 1963, 1985

Chicago Bulls: 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998

Chicago Blackhawks: 1934, 1938, 1961, 2010

Chicago White Sox: 1906, 1917, 2005

Chicago Cubs: 1907, 1908

Since 1960, only New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and Pittsburgh have hoisted more championship trophies than Chicago.  Not bad company to be in.

The Blackhawks recently ended a 48 year draught, and the White Sox had gone 87 years without a crown.  It hasn't been too long for the Bulls, but they seem to be posturing for a championship run any time now.  But there is still a significant period of time since the Bears or the Cubbies have risen to the top... when will either of their next championships be?

What do you think about the pro sports teams in Chicago, and what do you expect in the near future for them?

Yes, but no one care about soccer.

And not even people who care about soccer (foreigners) care about a MLS cup….

If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.

More than slightly

The 3.35m overall WC average or the 13m who watched the first round US/England match might disagree. LINK

These numbers may not match up to the 16m for basketball, 20m for baseball and 100m for the NFL, but it’s a lot more popular than people like to give it credit for.

I really don't like coming off

as a defender of all that is soccer. There really are some crappy things about it. For example, the amount of diving that goes on in the course of a game is unbelievable. They then roll on the ground acting like their leg just came off, only to pop right up as soon as the ref buys into their cry baby crap. It really does give the game a bad rap.

I’d also like to see more goals being scored. But then again, I don’t mind a good defensive game every now and again. I don’t mind the ties that much, because I understand the point system in the knockout stages and in the standard leagues.

Like all sports, it has it’s good and its bad. For example, the NFL has the Packers.

But you are

CAPTAIN DEFENDER OF ALL THAT IS SOCCER!! to me. At least here, on this blog. Its not a bad thing Don Quixote. But you know you’ll get mocked for it. Just know I really respect your opinion and anything said to you that disparages the “World’s game” you should take with the grain of salt intended. SOCCER BABY!!!

Thank you for taking care of that for me.

My net access has been limited as of late due to a dead computer.

Yeah, my computer picked up some bad habits from them.

It threw itself off the desk and pretended to be crashed. After I paid the repair guy, it started running again like nothing had ever happened. It’s ok though. I figure I’ll run it into the ground for the next few years, until it’s nearly obsolete. Then I’ll sell it to the LA Galaxy for a huge payday.
Oh, and belated HBD, by the way.

Ah Well...

Since we’re all supposedly dying in 2012, we can all look forward to the burning, flooding, and destruction of human life rather than the conclusion of the 2014 World Cup.

Chicago Champs

I don’t know of any other city besides New York that has a championship in the 4 major sports (baseball, basketball, football, and hockey) in the last 25 years…Bears in 85 Bulls (90’s) WSox 2005 and the Blackhawks this year. Pretty impressive! The future? Ahh, crap…Blackhawks have lost what 6 guys and a coach so far, and repeating as Cup champs is HARD! Bears? Depends on Cutler and Martz, gotta make the playoffs for a change. Bulls? Meh….Cubs and Sox, Sox maybe, but losing Peavy was tough, they should try and get Big Z or Lilly….All and all, I think we’re in good shape in most sports, how bout college?

championship teams

That’s why the ‘85 team is so beloved…..not just that they won, but how they won. Still love watching those DVDs put together by NFLNetwork. The Bulls run was incredible, you didn’t want to miss a game. Die-hard White Sox fan, so 05 was very special for me. And even if the Hawjks don’t win it again, what thrills they gave all of us.

Correct me if I'm wrong

But didn’t the football Cardinals win a couple championships when they were in Chicago

by C_Mac on Jul 13, 2010 2:57 AM CDT reply actions

Bears, Cubs or Bust!

Living in Chicago, there was not that much enthusiasm for the Sox in ‘05. The Blackhawks turned the city into a big sea of red. If the Bulls didn’t happen to have M.J. who knows if Bulls Fever would’ve spread the way it did. I’m surprised every member of the ‘85 Bears don’t have a statue somewhere in this city. But for the Cubs to finally do it. I think Chicago would just spontaneously combust.

I'm not sure what I would do if the Cubs finally won.

I’m so used to them not that it almost seems like a dream.
