Chicago Bears Pregame Open Thread
It's game day folks! Get your Saturday chores checked off the list, stock up on your favorite foods and beverages, and then let the festivities begin! There's one guy I know that is ready to get the party started.
While there will certainly be an official Game Thread this evening, we just couldn't wait to start rocking and rolling this morning. Chicago Bears football is upon us!
In the meantime, let's take a look back at some of the highlights (and lowlights) that was the 2009 season. Some of these plays I had forgotten about... certainly we've got the talent to build on.
It does not appear that the games will be streamed on chicagobears.com after all.

I got goosebumps from the parts where Cutler wasn't throwing it away.
Everyone's thought process with this team is that the playoffs start now. Tomorrow is going to be Day One of our run to October.

I'll do it for 2 first rounders and Philip Rivers.

I'm anxious for things to start and will be looking for several indicators, but
I’d like to caution everyone that it’s just pre-season and the first game at that. The ‘85 Bears went 1-4 in that pre-season so let’s keep everything in perspective. If Cutler throws a couple of pics tonight, it doesn’t mean we should trade him and if he throws a couple of TD’s we shouldn’t be carving his bust for Canton either. If Urlacher gets run over by an O-lineman it doesn’t mean his wrist is not healed so he’ll suck all year and if he gets a sack it doesn’t mean he’s going to be Defensive Player of the Year.
It’s nice to see excitement for the coming year but it gets real frustrating reading the extreme Kool-Aid drinkers or the extreme Doom & Gloom folks this early in the season.
I hear you but,
it really aggravates me when I read stuff from those morons who don’t look at things realistically either positively or negatively. The really “football smart” readers (and there are more here than anywhere else) sometimes get overshadowed by some of the others and it takes a lot of time to weed through the crap.
It’s time for serious football and serious Bears fans. The off-season is over.
true that
i agree. i think realisticly we can win the divison if we play like we mean it. and if not then another bummy season. however. i think that went patched up the secondary as best we can. we did go and get the best free agent out there, and got a rb to spell forte. i think we can have a magical season. oh and i hope peppers sends #4 to retirement.
It’s time for serious football and serious Bears fans. The off-season is over.
I would say that the time for serious Bears fans is the offseason. If last year was anything to go by, the “morons who don’t look at things realistically” seem to be the ones who’ll pop up out of the woodwork now that the games are starting.

You can always pay 40 dollars on NFL.com to watch it....
Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan [I have always lived in Arizona, dad is from Chicago].
I can't stand fair-weather/bandwagon fans, stick with your team, throughout the good and the bad. And don't switch to whichever team wins the Super Bowl each year.
I went ahead and plunked down $99 for all of it
I usually get the radio only (used to be called FieldPass, now AudioPass) for $29, but when I saw last night that they had AudioPass + ALL preseason live in HD + ALL reg season Rewind in HD for $99, I had to spring for it.
We watched the Skins game last night, and I LOVE the format. You can have split screen with multiple games, fill up the full screen (and I port it from the den computer to the large screen TV so it looks great up there), opt to hide scores from other games if you want to surprise yourself, and do a “Tevo” if you miss something and then jump back Live. The “adaptive” mode where it’s grainy at first and then refines gradually to HD when the speed is full is preferable to skipping and stopping.

I got the game rewind last year.
Although, I only remember paying like $20 or $30 for the whole season, Bears games only. I really can’t see paying $40 for meaningless, albeit live, preseason games.

In answer to the question of why I'd pay for live preseason games,
I believe the popular term is “Jonesing”

haha.
I just paid it. I knew I would end up doing it. I do like that you can do four games at once and you can decide which broadcast you wanna listen to. Can I listen to games from today, tomorrow though?

they have an “archived” tab. Awesome.

Here's a site I use:
http://www.channelsurfing.net/
I use it to watch stuff when I’m away from home… sometimes the feeds are not so spectacular though.
I use
But my connection is a piece of **** that disconnects a lot when I try to watch videos, so I don’t go on there a lot.

Another free option
is http://www.ilemi.com/
but, like the other free ones, it’s grainy, patchy, and usually you have to switch between different feeds during the course of one game.
Since the official NFL preseason streams are in flawless HD, it’s worth it to me to pay the fee rather than look at ilemi. Now if only the NFL would sell subscriptions to reg season HD streams…
"What I’m trying to say is that Lovie is an idiot. Let’s not forget this." --celerysalt, WCG commenter
yes.
If they would sell regular season subscriptions online, I’d be all for it. I used to buy DirecTV so I could watch every Bears game. I refused to do that anymore a couple of years ago. The NFL should definitely offer other options, rather that monopolizing it’s viewing capabilities. #ijustdontgetit

+10000
i used to google streaming online and was able to watch a couple games. Directv was ok but pay more for hd?
Obviously, NFL's top issue is "How can we make the most money?"
…not that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s business.
The question they’re asking themselves is, can we make more by selling online streaming subscriptions, or by our lucrative contracts with cable companies that offer NFL network, ESPN, and other exclusive football options?
Of course they know that many people subscribe to cable/satellite ONLY to get access to every NFL game imaginable. I have been tempted myself in the past, but I refuse to get cable just for football. I can’t see paying that much for hundreds of channels of mind stunting garbage, especially with 2 teens in the house. Not a fan of intellectual laziness. I have cable internet & the cable equivalent of the “broadcast” channels, but that’s it.
So the NFL knows that if they gave a reg season online streaming package, the cable companies would be pissed because a lot of folks would cancel or downgrade their cable subscriptions in favor of online.
The question that they are no doubt pondering is whether there is a way to catch folks (like me) who are never gonna get deluxe cable, but would pay an unknown amount to get quality HD games online.
I think a wise “toe in the water” approach would be to offer subscriptions to games on a Fave Team basis. I’ll bet they could get folks to shell out $200 per season to get all the Bears games (or whatever team ya like) on HD internet stream. My guess is that it wouldn’t cause a substantial decline in cable/satellite subscriptions. The lawyers repping those companies probably have another take on the issue.

I agree.
And I’d give $200 for a Bears season package online without thinking twice.

I love rum and coke!
You should try coconut rum with it, or raspberry smirnoff as well. Both are delicious. :]

Everclear. Straight shots.
Let’s not f$%k around!
If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.
I remain a pessimistically hopeful Bears fan.
